Filpulla out tonight, Emmerton recalled

It really seems that Ilari isn't in the future plans of the Red Wings. He would've been called already at least once with all these injuries if that was the case.

I honestly don't think he ever was. When he came over here I always got the impression he was more of a Griffin's roster filler with a possibility of playing for the big club, but not really on any particular fast-track. In fact, I almost think it was purely upon some request of vFlip that they didn't turn down because Ilari actually does have some talent.

...except that they're not twins and they haven't played together for almost their whole professional careers, right?

dont have to be twins. they are brothers and they do look similar. The sedins had to start somewhere, so the flips may as well start here.

aside from that, i have no idea how good iflip is, i saw him play for the griffs 3 times so far, but two of the times i was on the glass, so its hard to get a good perception of positioning.

Anyone who's been in the "iFlip should be on the team next year!" or "iFlip over Emmerton!" camps needs a reality check. Ilari is not going to be on the Wings next year unless there are MAJOR changes, and he is at best equally talented with Emmerton, who is younger and better defensively; so bringing up Emmerton to play in a two-way or checking role makes more sense.

What will likely happen with regards to next year's roster and Wings prospect forwards is this, assuming the only movement is through retirement or free agency:

Modano, Draper, Eaves, and Miller are UFA.

Eaves will probably be re-signed. That puts the Wings at 11 returning forwards.

Draper likely retires; Modano does not return through retirement or otherwise.

Emmerton and Mursak both likely are carried on next year's squad, with Miller as a possible returnee if the Wings choose to again carry 14 forwards.

Wow eva, we usually dont see eye to eye on a lot of things (Hudler mostly) but someone call the news paper because I agree completely with this post

It really is true, and I think its mostly people who look at stats and haven't seen Emmerton or Iflip play that want Iflip on the team. He's already 30 and he is producing pretty much the same as Emmerton while Emmerton is younger, and much better defensively.

Has Tardif done anything that has remotely given management reason to bring him up over others?

Honest question, I haven't seen any Griffins games this season.

He does very well down there is the weird part. He is one goal behind the goal scoring lead and had 26 points. Iflip has 33, and he is a very good PKer who will fight when he has too. Maybe the management doesnt think his wheels are good enough for the NHL or something.

This isn't just me wanting some fighter on the team either, he really is one of the better players down there, plays every situation as well

So...... if/when Miller isn't re-signed, who will the 14th forward be? Hmmm, how about iFlip? Yah, that sounds about right. And find one post where anyone has said iFlip should be on the team next year over Emmerton. No one has said that. Everyone agrees Mursak and Emmerton are on the team next year.

People were saying iFlip should have been on the team THIS year.

As for the 14th forward thing; I would imagine that Miller's fate depends on whether the Wings choose to carry 13 or 14 forwards, and whether Draper retires. iFlip doesn't come into play unless the Wings are choosing not to re-sign Miller for the last spot due to his play or his conduct.

Here's an interesting question that might lead to some good discussion. And we need all of it we can get with this all-star break.

Could Emmerton take one of the four center spots next year? Is he that good?

If so, is he good enough to take Modano's spot as the third line center seeing as how he is supposed to have more skill than Helm and Abby?
