Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Cleary-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi

Hudler-Filppula-Abdelkader

Draper-Helm-Eaves

Lidstrom-Stuart

Ericsson-Rafalski

Kronwall-Salei

Howard

MacDonald

...I'm not a big fan. That second line isn't going to score any goals. It's going to be the Zetterberg-Show, with no help. That third line (or some variation of it, at least) has been used time and time again, and it hasn't worked, and it's not going to work. And I continue to be baffled by Bab's refusal to split Pav and Mule, regardless of how much less chemistry they have than Pav and Flip, or even Pav and Huds.

I'd go:

Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom...Pav and Flip have insane chemistry, and Flip's not contributing on the third line.

Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary...Proven old favorite.

Modano-Abdelkader-Bertuzzi...Still a checking line, but with a little more scoring potential (and hunger).

Draper-Helm-Eaves...Solid, obviously.

Hudler

Miller

I actually like these lines.

They've worked before, because it's similar to what we had last series, except Hank has taken Abby's place on the 2nd line, and Abby has replaced Miller with Flip and Hudler.

This will hopefully work like it did against the Jets.

However, I am a little surprised to see Modano not in. I wouldn't mind dressing him in place of Hudler for a game.

I just don't get why he is not being used any. I mean i understand he is slower then he use to be but come on. the way abby and some of the others have been playing i don't see the harm in just seeing.

Holmstrom shouldn't be on the 1st line. He's only good on the PP. Why not Flip-Dats-Huds on the first line? Or put one of Cleary/Bertuzzi and put Hudler with Zetterberg?

I don't mind the lines, but I think Modano should be given a shot.

My problem is that regardless of what lines they practice with, by the end of the game they'll be all shaken up. IMO its going to be hard to develop any consistent chemistry with the lines constantly changing. Hopefully these work and we can go with them.

Go Wings!

and his presence alone kills a 3rd or 4th line. if you want to roll three lines with specialist subs, you can take him off the first line (which I'd support). but that's certainly not babs' style.

I'd rather Modano replace Cleary for a game. Cleary's been our worst player in these playoffs so far.

Franzen and Datsyuk together? Getting sick of this pairing I really dunno what Babs sees in it.... doubt we'll see any production from first line. 2nd line is not bad looking, I can see the potential there. 3rd line no comment.

Modano has been the biggest waste of a signing ever. Why did we even bother if we werent gonna see what he had come playoff time? This is the perfect time to get him in for Abby/Hudler and he'll still sit. At least Drapes is back in

I agree. I think Modano is hungry to prove he still has it and can contribute to the team and it might light a fire under whomever they sit when they come back.

Cleary and Zetterberg in playoff mode will do wonders, especially if Bertuzzi steps up the hitting. I think this will be just what Z and Clears need.

anybody else think "splitting up datsyuk and zetterberg" as our ace-in-the-hole is kinda lame?

i don't know what else to do at this point, but something definitely is broken.

Not really, because theoretically, San Jose can't counter it.

Now if only they let in Mo for Hudler and Mursak for Bert I would be happy.

Considering how non-existent our depth has been I don't see why he didn't do it in game 2.

For once I'm not going to be a dick and say that either of these lineups actually make sense.

Maybe it's just because Dats and Zets should definitely be split up and I agree with a bunch of different combinations.

yeah, but theories don't really work that well in the playoffs. :(

As much as the Wings coaching staff has been lamenting the lack of powerplay point men lately (outside of Lidstrom/Rafalski) I really don't understand why Babcock isn't going to put Modano in tomorrow night.

Babs must have closed his eyes in the shifts Dats and Flip took together against Phoenix, because they were dynamite and looked like scoring every time they were out there. Put them together for crying out loud.

I said it in another post but if we lose this series I will be placing a significant amount of blame on Mike Babcock. His refusal to play Mike Modano is just retarded... there is no way that he should be sitting after the way Abdelkator has played the last 2 games... Modano adds some speed to the line-up that we have been lacking against San Jose, and also he provides further depth to our team which I do not think San Jose can compete with.

I just do not understand these lines... like I said our problem has been speed... so why would Babcock put a SLOW Franzen with Pavel Datsyuk... that is just going to slow Pavs down. Honestly, I am a BIG fan of Babs, but this year he has lost an edge with his coaching imo.
