wow, that's a SCARY term for a goalie... gets his tag down a bit though, they're really gambling over there on health of players with some of their deals...

that'd be a shame, the kid is NHL ready and doesn't need to be stored in the minors... maybe they turn around and deal him as well? Doubtful, but you never know...

Even Jakub Voracek is a RFA this year. OMFG thats at least $2M right there.

Wow...Is it me or is Philly not getting a good return on these guys?

Were these 2 guys cancers in the locker room?

Glad I'm not a Flyers fan.

I can't imagine Richards was a cancer seeing as he was captain.

I've heard they actually were a cancer. Didn't obey team rules in terms of going out at night a partying and such.

Aggressive behavior yes, playoff team no. I don't think they have what it takes yet. They have two strong players in Carter and Nash now. There defense is way to shaky and Mason has been inconsistent. I think they need to add a few more higher end players before becoming a "real" playoff team.

Say they go out and make a splash and bring in someone like Bieksa, as well as another top 6 forward and another top 4 dman in FA and then they go from cusp, to potentially dangerous... it's all a matter of how things shake out from here, with the way their roster stands now, probably not a playoff team, but it shows initiative...

Voracek certainly has a huge upside but trading for Carter is a real solid move. Columbus fixes their D and Mason returns to form and they're a playoff team.

agreed.

Yes, I would agree 100% with you if this is to happen. They are heading in the right direction that is for sure.

There were a ton of reports that they were looking to move those 2 or at least one of them anyway this off season, regardless of cap space due to their antics off the ice and in the locker room, they were reportedly VERY disruptive together and apparently partied too much...

Are the Flyers making a push for Weber and Crosby or something?

Bizzarre moves.

This probably had something to do with it.

Or this.

They got heat from the media for partying with pornstars or something. I never saw the big deal.

UGH!!!! Again being a huge Flyers fan this TOTALLY BLOWS! Two top pieces to the Flyers getting traded upsets me. This is really bad. They should of got rid of Versteeg and Leino. I can understand having to trade one for some cap space but trading both of these guys is brutal. Dislike.

Leino's a UFA and Versteeg only makes a shade over $3 mil. Richards and Carters' total cap hits come to $11 million plus per year. They needed to shed some real salary to sign Bryz and fill out their roster. The 2 boys you mentioned wouldn't have scratched the surface. Now that being said, I can see letting Leino walk and moving Versteeg to hang onto one of the two they just moved, but moves had to be made.

Looking at capgeek Philly can put Schenn in the minors and save $3.1M in cap space and get rid of one of the extra goalies and have about ~$11M to fill out their roster. Some new people are RFA like Voracek and Simmonds as well. Gonna be interesting to see what they do and how they handle it from here.

So.... the Flyers get rid of two of their top scorers, then sign a goaltender with a bad attitude to a nine-year contract at almost $6m per year.

Right. So, who put LSD in Holmgren's cereal?

And he'll only be 40 when the contract expires!

WTF? this pisses me off. We coulda offered Fil, Tatar, First rounder for Richards. Where was Kenny on this one?

I suspect Holland didn't want a third mega long-term contract on the books. Having an old Zetterberg and an old Franzen on the team in nine years is going to be tying up $10m as it is. Having an old Richards eating up another $6m would be bad planning. Also, as others have said, Richards apparently has maturity issues.

Holland's the best in the business. If he didn't pull the trigger, then there's a good reason why.

Just realized that sending Richards to LA may only increase his partying ways.

Yeah, but in that town he'd be a nobody and likely get away with a lot of things. :sly:

Reminds me of when the Wings went to Anaheim for one away game.

"Where's the ******* practice at tomorrow?"

"El Segundo......Honda Center....."

That video was hilarious. :hehe:

I would not really want to part ways with Tatar... that kid may very well be a star. He has converted very nicely to the North American game in his first two season with GR and should only play stronger this season. Plus he could learn a lot from Datsyuk once he comes up next season and may very well be a 70+ point guy. We have some very under the radar type offensive weapons in our farm system.

Tatar (20), Nyquist (21), Jarnkrok (19), Sheahan (19), Pulkkinen (20)...

I would say at last two of these guys will become strong top 6 players.

Colombus can't afford to wait for any more draft picks to develop. They need to sell tickets and start winning ASAP. I think this trade makes them better and keeps them competetive while improving their horrible power play. I wonder if the CBJ wishes they hadn't passed on Cam Fowler last year in the draft after seeing how well he played in Anaheim this season. Could have been the PP point man they need on the back end.

I think the western conference and central division just got a lot stronger today.

Can we move East now?
