newfy 695 Report post Posted December 14, 2011 There were reasons why he couldn't make the pathetic top six of Columbus' defensefense and articles stated it was because of poor work ethic and attitude. Yeah his over inflated salary and being played in a role he didnt belong in from what I can tell 2 BigWillieStyle and Zeowingsfan reacted to this

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 15, 2011 Right now no shake ups are really needed. I feel for Commodore, but Kindl has played well pretty much all season, and at least lately Big Rig has been solid. He's far from my favorite but I don't think he's as bad as his whipping boy status. Unless somebody just starts struggling or an injury pops up, I don't see him getting out there. Depth is a good problem to have however.
LeftWinger 5,151 Report post Posted December 15, 2011 I don't think the question is Kindl or Commodore, it's Ericsson or Commodore. Kindl has been superb, but Ericsson is just stinking the ice up, Commie should be in and Ericsson should be out or dealt (damn those NTC's!) Problem is, while losing 3 out of 5 didn't get Commodore in a little bit ago, that means he will probably never get in unless there is an injury. I seriously think that Babcock has a personal issue with him still and that is why he is always a healthy scratch. There is no reason why he is not being rotated with Ericsson. If Commie comes in and outperforms Ericsson, then that is great! If he stinks, then so be it. Right now, Ericsson is a huge waste of $3.25M. I think if Commie is given a nice 10 game stretch to prove himself, then we can decide if he is worthy of the top 6. Right now, not even Ericsson is top 6 worthy. What could it hurt? I've been really impressed with Kindl's play so far this year, and I think he keeps getting better as the season progresses. The heads up play he made on the Helm goal a few weeks back really shows what the kid can do, and I think we'll see more of that as his confidence grows. That said, I do feel bad for Commie. He's a good team guy who really wants to play hockey, and I hate to see him sitting out after the way he was approached by Holland in the offseason. But then again, who knew Kindl and Ericsson would be so solid coming into this year? Fixed... 1 Red Wings Addict reacted to this
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted December 15, 2011 The Babcock speculation is silly and unfounded. It was Commodore's CHOICE to sign with the Red Wings. He knew who the head coach was. Commodore isn't playing because he isn't better than the six guys the Red Wings are dressing on defense.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted December 15, 2011 (edited) The Babcock speculation is silly and unfounded. It was Commodore's CHOICE to sign with the Red Wings. He knew who the head coach was. Commodore isn't playing because he isn't better than the six guys the Red Wings are dressing on defense. You are right and it should be obvious. One could argue he's less mistake-prone than Ericsson, but he's not leagues better. And unfortunately, you might as well go with the younger guy in the hopes that he will develop. So Commodore sits. And honestly, after Smith's stint up here, it's even less likely he'd play since Smith looked like he deserves to be up here full-time. It's just unfortunate that Ericsson has that huge contract (relative to his skill) which means he will never sit. Thank God we have depth this year, that was something that hurt us back in '10. kipwinger 8,762 Report post Posted December 15, 2011 I'm sorry, what is it that Ericsson needs to do for someone here to give him a break and say that he's been a good third pair defenseman this year? His stats are nearly identical to Kindl's, a guy that everyone here (including me) thinks has been a real good third pair guy. Neither play on the powerplay, Ericsson at least kills penalties, and both are plus six on the season. I add the plus minus here in order to suggest that even if Ericsson is turning the puck over as much as everyone seems to suggest, it doesn't seem to be hurting the team at all. I'm really not trying to suggest that the guy is worth his contract, or that he's a superstar in the making, and I've never really liked him before, but based on his play this year I can't find too much to be pissed off about...considering he's a third pair guy and always will be. Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted December 15, 2011 I'm sorry, what is it that Ericsson needs to do for someone here to give him a break and say that he's been a good third pair defenseman this year? There's nothing he can do, really. Many of us have already made up our minds about Ericsson and that's probably how it's going to be from now on. Every single mistake more often than not overshadows whatever good he contributes, kind of like Hudler and to a lesser extent in years past, Filppula. Barrie 900 Report post Posted December 15, 2011 Ericsson >>> Commodore I agree with previous comments, unless there's an injury, Commodore will be watching games. Plus, take away that 6 game stretch where we didn't win a game and we're 19-4. There's no reason to make changes.

Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted December 16, 2011 Commie will get some games in before long. I think it was a shrewd move by Kenny getting Mike, mainly i feel come play off time. Kindl hasnt got any playoff exp and Mike is a warrior type we'll need for a (hopefully) long post season run.
