How would a top six acquisition effect the lines, 1-4

It all depends on WHO we bring in, of course (if we bring in a top six forward at all)...but if we do bring in a top six forward...who is the odd man out? The first guess is Hudler. The second is Bertuzzi. The wild-card is Flip (centering the third line). Let's assume for now that it's Hudler (and all we lose in the trade - getting even more hypothetical - is draft picks/prospects).

Franzen-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi

Filppula-Zetterberg-*???*

How does that impact the bottom six? The interesting thing, to me, is that we now might have the talent to put together a semi-serious third scoring line (that would probably play less than the checking line, but still..).

Abdelkader-Helm-Cleary

Hudler-Nyquist-Mursak/Holmstrom/Miller/Eaves/Emmerton/Conner

...a Hudler-Nyquist-Mursak line could be formidable, couldn't it?

Im certain that would work it self out getting the top 6 player.

I have thought of this as well. Datsyuk, Bert, and Mule I think need to stay together. I think that Z's line is the one that needs to get going. I wonder why when our power play is not very good why Babcock doesn't keep Pav, Bert and Mule together? Use Homer with Z and Flip. But getting back on topic. I think that it really depends on who's brought in and who could be moved out.

Any trade for a top 6 forward would likely involve Hudler or Filppula being moved.

Maybe this is where Stuart will come into play...

.....To Anaheim: Stuart, Kindl, Hudler, Tartar

To Detroit: Perry, Parros, picks (t.b.d) :D

Fixed.

I'll take it.

If it's Hemsky or Parise, one of those Top 6 guys might be involved in the trade.

I'd hate to break up either of those top two lines, since they've both been hot lately. My best guess is that...assuming we don't lose anyone in the current top 6... Bert moves down to the 3rd or 4th and stays on the top Power Play line.

That sounds good to me also. It does leave a big hole in our defense though. Suter is not going to be had cheap.

With the way we're playing I don't expect Holland to make any deals at all. But Hudler is a 3rd liner on a cup winning team imo and Holland will fix it at the offseason.

Franzen- Datsyuk- Bertuzzi

Hemskey/ Selanne- Zetterberg- Filpulla

Cleary- Helm- Hudler

Miller- Abs- Emmerton/ Mursak/Eaves

That is a deep, deep line-up if you ask me. I think no matter what, Bert NEEDS to stay with Pavs because he has been doing a superb job in that role, contributing with goals and assists, but also by using his body and size to create space for Pavs to work magic.

Realistically, I see the Wings getting Hemskey, even though I would rather Semin, who I would LOVE on the wings playing with Pavs. But, I have heard rumors from various people that Selanne has said if he were to waive his clause the only two teams he would consider would be San Jose and the Red Wings and if that were the case, I would LOVE to get Selanne... he is CLUTCH and would provide even more motivation to win the cup along with Nick. Anyways, that 2nd line would be solid and could score some big goals and dominate opposing lines. Helm and Hudler played together when we won the cup, and have been great together in the past.

Well, if the rumor is true that Teemu would waive his clause to come to Detroit (which I think is a slap in the face of Chicago, St. Louis and Vancouver  ) then Holland better acquire him! Sure he would probably be a rental, but Hemskey may be a rental as well. I have said this before, all the talk of acquiring that elite player that might be here for the next 10 years doesn't have to be done in February. Although if an unresistable deal presents itself, then of course make it, but I think if Holland could get one or two to make this team better now, then do it now and wait until July 1st to get your Parise's or Suter's or whomever else. I would like to see Selanne plus another come here. Sleanne shouldn't be too expensive, neither should Hemsky, but that doesn't mean they won't be.

Considering the topic, I think, unless you trade Hudler away, it is going to severley affect the bottom six because Hudler has proven he is not that type of player. He cannot grind with our current bottom 6. I cannot say he is a sniper or an elite, legit top 6 player, but that is where he fits here. It's kinda like Holmstrom, he really doesn't fit on that 4th line, but he isn't top 6 anymore either. Although, I think that his numbers would improve if he played with Datsyuk again. So if acquiring a top 6 without trading Hudler means Hudler slips down to the 3rd line, then yes it would greatly affect the bottom 6 and not in a good way. When Eaves returns it is a must that he stay with Helm/Cleary and have Miller move to the 4th. Miller has played well on the 3rd and deserves to stay there, but he makes the 4th line better with Abdelkader. So the bottom 6 must stay like this:

Cleary - Helm - Eaves

Miller - Abby - Holmstrom (rotating with the 13th FWD)

If you put Hudler on either of these lines it will upset the chemistry, not because Hudler has played bad, but just as I have stated, he does not fit in with these type players. So if Holland acquires Selanne, hopefully it involves Hudler going the other way because of the chemistry thing, not because I dislike him. Unless Babcock just chooses to sit Hudler most nights as the 13th fwd. But hey, Holmstrom could rotate with Hudler and they could trade Emmerton or Mursak for Selanne. The powerplay can't get any worse with Holmstrom out of the lineup from time to time...He is a powerplay specialist, but right now, nobody is playing too special on the powerplay...

BTW, you left Holmstrom out of your lineup. He may sit some, but he won't be a healthy scratch the rest of the season and playoffs. He will get most the playing time of all the #12 spot players on this team. He will be in there before Mursak and Emmerton for most of the games once Eaves returns. I think the order of choice by Babcock will be Holmstrom then Emmerton then Mursak.

Do they play hockey in the press box?

I'm not sure the bottom six would line-up quite like that...but yeah...there are some names you can plug into that top six that make us look really really good.

If we lose a defenseman in a trade, Smith is ready to play. No doubt about it. It'd be a shame to lose a pivotal guy like Stuart...but in the riiiggght deal, sure.

Thinking about the lines...

Franzen-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi

Filppula-Zetterberg-*?*?*?*

it's hard to spell out the bottom six without knowing who we're giving up...

You mean .500 on the road?

Why would Perry be on the second line?

He certainly deserves first line time over anyone not named Datsyuk.

Yep.

Franzen-Datsyuk-Perry

Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Flip

Cleary-Helm-Homer

Parros-Abdel-Miller

So, who did you trade in order to get Perry and Parros?

Filppula, maybe Stuart (since he won't re-sign), Tatar, Nyquist, and picks. Not all those assets, but those are some of the ones we can throw around.

Yep.

Franzen-Datsyuk-Perry

Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Flip

Cleary-Helm-Homer

Flip has more trade value than Hudler. I know Flip is having a great year, but if we can move him in a package that includes a sniper coming our way, Holland should seriously consider it.

Although this is a pipe dream. I don't expect us to get Perry. The guy is one season away from winning the Hart. Is Anaheim really serious about moving him or Ryan? We'll see.
