kkenn79 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2012 I received a call today from the Wings about the information I requested revolving around the Winter Classic. I was blown away, as I was informed that only season ticket holders will be offered the opportunity to purchase tickets for the Alumni Showdown, which turned the call into a sales pitch for at least a 20 game season ticket package! So, in essence, I would be paying far more money just to watch the alumni play as older, slower men, in a meaningless game, than I did when they were in their prime, playing real games that meant something! Are you kidding me?! Look, I am a huge fan, and I would love season tickets, but I go to work everyday and bust my tail just to afford the gas to continue to get to work, and put a bit of food in the fridge. I am lucky to get to one game a season on what I make. I don't do awful, but I am far from justifying making it to the Joe often. It is also sickening to think that Comerica Park holds about 24k more people than JLA, and they only are offering the tickets to season ticket holders. This must mean sponsors and Leafs fans are getting the other half? I can see an allotment offered to them both on a smaller scale, and leave the rest for a lottery among the rest of us Wings fans who want to go witness this game and relive the past for a few hours. This is what I had read they were doing with all of the tickets for these games, but I guess not. Another gross number...$20k for a group rate for ice time at Comerica!! They will get it too, every day that it is open for skating between Dec 15th-31st. Unbelievable stuff. I guess I will just go see the Whalers and the Griffins play their games there for $18 a pop. Barrie 900 Report post Posted August 6, 2012 I was thinking about this last week, it's too bad they're offering so many tickets to Toronto fans. A certain percentage of them are a bunch of obnoxious morons who would treat a win at any of these games like winning the Stanley Cup. Also they'd have a huge chip on their shoulder with the name "Hockeytown", since Toronto likes to call themselves the "Mecca of Hockey". They wouldn't enjoy the experience and entertainment, instead they'd just turn it into a city of Toronto vs. the city of Detroit thing. Trust me, living in the Toronto area, the outdoor game would be a lot more fun if they didn't allow so many Maple Leaf fans there. However, joke's on the Leaf fans, we're using them for their $$$, just like MLSE does (oops, did I just say that last sentance outloud? )
Zata fan 40 6 Report post Posted August 6, 2012 ugh that sucks too. Looks like I won't be seeing either one without an insane amount of luck.

This years alumni game brought to you by season ticket holders! WHO CARES!? Season ticket holders care... SO WHAT!? I'm right there with ya. Screw em, I'd rather see the Whalers play the Spits anyway.... GO WHALERS!!!
chances14 229 Report post Posted August 6, 2012 they said the same thing about the winter classic tickets too. I managed to get 2 tickets to the winter classic game today through an invite i got for signing up on the red wings winter classic site. i am sure that some alumni tickets will be released to the publc in the same essence as the winter classic. it's all a marketing ploy to get as many people as they can to sign up for season tickets. vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted August 7, 2012 What's really crazy is that I was on the season ticket holder wait list for over 11 years before I got the letter in the mail. Now they're doing handsprings to get people to buy them. They've probably sold quite of few of the 20-game packages with this.
Zata fan 40 6 Report post Posted August 7, 2012 Is there anything different to sign up for to get on the list for tickets to the Alumni game than the one already with the Winter Classic tickets?

I just don't see why you are surprised at all by this. It's a business. Both teams and the National Hockey League. They did this for their bottom lines. The city did this, for their bottom lines. Period. The same way you bust your tail going to work each day to keep your life going - TML, DRW, NHL, UM, the City of Detroit, etc., are doing the exact same thing. They need this. You said it yourself. They're going to get every last penny they can out of this event. And this is how it is done. Sure it blows for people like us. I couldn't dream of getting season tickets. But it's strictly business and it's the way the cookie crumbles. Go Wings!

Nightfall 871 Report post Posted August 8, 2012 The Grand Rapids Griffins are offering the right to purchase winter classic tickets if you get a 10 game flex plan. That 10 game plan is pretty cheap, so if you just want to get tickets, you can probably go that route and it won't cost you much.

BottleOfSmoke 5,965 Report post Posted August 11, 2012 Since the last time I won a drawing was when I won a gigantic troll doll from the local drug store in 5th grade, I'm resigning myself to the fact that I'm going to get bent over buying alumni tix on eBay.
