Guest Crymson Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Legitimate top 6 winger we have wanted for 3 years. I guess his salary wouldn't work for us Correct. He'd have been a UFA in the coming offseason anyway. NYI will have plenty of cap space to give him an outrageous contract.
St. Michael (the Red Wing) 422 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Sorry to everyone on here but a good and risky move by the NYI. Also sorry to any Wild fans on here which I doubt. All I've heard for the last 2 months is that the Wild will acquire Vanek at some point because he's buddy buddy with Pominville. We shall see...
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 What? You can trade to try and improve your team??? No way!!!! 7 esteef, motorcitykid, b.shanafan14 and 4 others reacted to this
Guest Crymson Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Regier got smoked, as usual. Moulson is a UFA in the summertime, and he probably won't want to stay on such a terrible team. If last season's performance is any indication, NYI's 1st will not be very high.
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Wow just wow and s certain GM couldn't top that offer? IF Vanek re-signs with the Isles they win this trade if not Snow needs to me fired.

Guest Crymson Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Wow just wow and s certain GM couldn't top that offer? Exactly where would he have located $7.2m of cap space? 2 Ally and Wingsfan1936 reacted to this
Richdg 267 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Interesting. Both players are UFA's. Throwing in the 14' 1st and 15' 2nd is the risk. If the isles resign him it is a major upgrade. Moulson is a good 30 goal per year guy, but vanek is a 40+ goal per year guy. This trade is very similar to our deal to get Shanny many years ago. primeau was a good 30 guy guy but Shanny was a 40+ goal guy and a leader.
Richdg 267 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Exactly where would he have located $7.2m of cap space? True we have no cap room today, but what about last summer? before we pissed away 5.5 million of Alfie, 5 million on Weiss, and didn't use our second buyout on say Franzen? that is 15 million right there! Not to mention the 1.75 million on cleary. we could have traded for both Ryan and vanek and had to good scoring lines! but no...... 1 frankgrimes reacted to this

number9 3,297 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Wow surprised everyone likes this for NYI. I think Buffalo won here, and NYI got hosed. Moulson plays real good hockey, and is almost a point per game player. And they got a first and second. IMO Moulson and a 2nd (or maybe just a first) would have been fair. EDIT: first and Moulson that is Edited October 28, 2013 by number9

You can toss 3M for Samuelson and almost 2M for Tootoo on that heap as well. I wasn't just talking about Vanek. I'm talking about Quincey being the only player Holland has aquired since Stuart in 08. But we all know this, don't we?
brett 1,029 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 i wouldve traded mule for moulson holland really f***ed up IMO. bert sams and cleary with NTC. not that anyone would want them but sure as s*** dont help your options. holland has no trade bait.
RationalHatred 10 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 I'm just surprised that Snow would pick Moulson of all people to deal, and that Regier wanted him. Legitimate chemistry with an elite scorer isn't exactly the most common thing in the world. How many players have played insanely well alongside a particular individual and otherwise had unremarkable careers? Cheechoo comes to mind. Just seems risky to me. Matt Moulson is a good hockey player, but his 30-goal days may be at an end without Tavares at center.
RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 I thought Moulson was a good young player. They look pretty equal on paper ... both at 9 pts but then NYI had to add 1st round ... achildr1 255 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Moulson is underrated. This guy scores, period. Even if Moulson isn't as good for Buffalo, the trade isn't a huge steal for NYI anyway because Moulson was a legit 30-35 goal guy there. The upgrade isn't that big. Glad to see the Isles going for it but the need a couple more pieces to make them legit contenders.
St. Michael (the Red Wing) 422 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Both Moulson and Vanek are UFA at the end of the season. Haven't seen this mentioned yet. Obviously a factor during this trade

Glad to see the Isles going for it but the need a couple more pieces to make them legit contenders. I think this trade has to be based on the fact, if (yes/no) Vanek re-signs there if he doesn't I guess they could try to move him at the tdl to a contender. Moulson does what he is supposed to do - score goals but there is no way he is going to re-sign with such an atrocious team. The Sabres might very well be the worst team in the NHL right now just wait till they are trading away Ryan Miller (going to end up in St. Louis or Pittsburgh..) The Isles are still a top goaltender and a #1 defenseman away from being legit but it is start and I am happy for their franchise, the fans have suffered long enough. Son of a Wing 1,644 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 From a risk/reward standpoint this is a slam dunk for Buffalo. Temporary replacement in Moulson plus a 1st and a 2nd for what....6 months of Vanek? Regier might have just saved his job with this one.
