LoveMyWings 1 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Geez I'm having trouble hearing and understanding Ozzie during the game. It makes it really frustrating to watch since I miss half of the conversation.
Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Oh yeah. For sure. At the same time, and I ask this as innocently as possible: Were you around during Larry Murphy's first few years as a analyst? My goodness. Compared to that, Ozzie's having a decent rookie year. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
Franzine 739 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Totally intelligible to me. He's even a little funny sometimes. Big upgrade over Murphy. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I like him but he does speak a bit quietly and sometimes goes on for too long instead of making quick points and letting Ken get back to it. 1 hockey&beer reacted to this
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I really enjoy him, he gets away from the game sometimes, but at least he's funny when he's doing it. Wouldn't mind him moving between the benches permanently with Ken and Mick at home. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
Sabaton617 28 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I like him but he does speak a bit quietly and sometimes goes on for too long instead of making quick points and letting Ken get back to it. Agree with those points and tends to be repetitive.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 He tends to be dry. Almost like a second play by play guy, but he's brand new to it. At least he can formulate a sentence unlike Murphy, Haha. He'll get better soon. He already looks more comfortable than he did a few weeks ago, and the natural storytelling comes with experience. 1 MidMichSteve reacted to this
wings87 1,290 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I think the fast way Ozzie speaks causes him to get ahead of his thoughts and causes him to make mistakes, it constantly feels like he's rushing. He's also too straight forward and only talks about the game how about a story ones in a awhile. Having said all that, I like how knowledgeable he is, Ozzie was a great goalie and really understands the game. With more games under his belt he should get better I'm just not sure his speaking style makes him an ideal commentator.
sleepwalker 512 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Its funny cause we used to crack on Murph for sounding drunk a lot, but the way Ozzie sounds to me is the same way the people I know who take adderal (or coke) sound. They talk very fast and their words run together and sound mumbly or stuttery at times.

themcityblues 249 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Where's the other "color" commentator been? The guy who always goes, "Oh boy" and "Geez Louise" My experience of Ozzie has been that he reads straight from the sheets. And that he doesn't have the best chemistry with his parter. 1 RedWang reacted to this

RedWang 422 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Where's the other "color" commentator been? The guy who always goes, "Oh boy" and "Geez Louise". Thatd be the great Sir Mickey Redmond. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 He's just very inexperienced. It's actually a lot harder than it looks to talk that much in a concise, coherent way. He'll get better. 1 Red Wings Addict reacted to this
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I'm an Ozzie lover, so I'm biased in his favour, but if I'm going to have a complaint,it is that I have trouble hearing him. If my volume could go any higher, I'd crank it, but there's only one "loudest" setting. He has a quiet voice. He always had it in interviews, so it's not surprising he has it in the booth. Good Canadian boy.
Miss Wing Queen 154 Report post Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) Ozzie is a little on the dry side but improving. Darren Elliot was the same when he started--very straight forward--and look how far he's come. He actually cracks a smile now and then. Seriously, though, I'd say just give him time. I do like how he talks up all the GR kids. The only thing that drives me nuts is that he says Franzen like Pierre McGuire does, and I hate being reminded of that dou*che more than is necessary, especially when I don't have to suffer through games on NBC. You'd think having worked with Franzen for that many years and having a locker a couple spots down from him, Ozzie'd be able to pronounce it correctly! Must be a Canadian thing? Aswell as when he refers to us the viewers as "gang". Ive always wanted to be a part of a gang, and Mick is kind enough to do that for me. 2 dirtydangles and WorkingOvertime reacted to this
