Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted August 15, 2014 It's mid-August. News is slow. Happy Kevin Hayes Day, NHL [Ryan Lambert, Puck Daddy] I've talked up Hayes a couple times on these boards. Kid is good. Very good. I assume Kenny will make a push for him, but, well, Dan Cleary. Calgary does seem to be the logical front-runner. Where do you think he ends up? Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted August 15, 2014 Calgary sounds like the place for him, if he wants to be with his besties.

number9 3,297 Report post Posted August 15, 2014 To me it sounds like Calgary or Florida. If he's ok with the AHL then Boston.

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted August 15, 2014 He officially won't be signing with Chicago: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/15/blackhawks-address-hayes-free-agency-will-receive-2015-second-rounder/ They'll receive a second-round pick in next year's draft as compensation. nawein 324 Report post Posted August 16, 2014 Wait. Chicago gets a second for failing to sign one of it's draft picks, and we get nothing for having half of our front office stolen? 2 Dabura and krsmith17 reacted to this

PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted August 16, 2014 I would've liked the wings to get him. Hayes> cleary and alfie Alfie is a future hall of famer. Even at 40 he scored 18 goals and 49pts in 68 games. A player who hasn't played a game in the NHL and had 1 really good year in college hockey is better than him? That's a big leap of faith to me. 2 number9 and krsmith17 reacted to this

nawein 324 Report post Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) I know, right?Does anyone know why they get a second? Seems to me like the league is giving them one just to give them one. Did Anaheim get a third I'm unaware of for not signing Schultz? This just seems like a stupid and generally unfair way of rewarding a team for losing. And if it's in the cba, why aren't more people waiting to sign picks? If you don't sign someone you get a free pick a round later than you took them in? Who here wouldn't have taken a third over Emmerton? Or if Frk keeps up his poor play I'd have been thrilled to get a third for him. This whole them getting a second and nobody saying why or complaining seems fishy. I don't like it. Edited August 16, 2014 by nawein

Not positive but I think it might be only college players because you are forced to wait to sign them if you want them to keep playing college.
FifeHockeyNut 57 Report post Posted August 17, 2014 Not positive but I think it might be only college players because you are forced to wait to sign them if you want them to keep playing college. I'm sure it's only for unsigned first round draft picks
_SP_ 129 Report post Posted August 18, 2014 Yes, it's because he elected to go to college still after signing an ELC. So the guy never truly ever played for the Blackhawks, that's why they get a pick back. And instead of thinking about it in current terms, think about it this way: If your first round draft pick doesn't sign and plays college hockey for four years, we'll give you a second round pick back... five years later. Doesn't sound so glorious now, does it?
nawein 324 Report post Posted August 18, 2014 Still sounds to me like they're getting a free pick for failing to sign someone. But I guess it's the same type deal as rfa's in a way. I don't know, I still don't like it.
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted August 18, 2014 If I where him I'd be signing with Calgary, he can play with his buddies there, they are rebuilding so not a lot of pressure there and it's easier to crack that lineup.
amato 3,210 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 On Tuesday, various outlets (see here and here andhere and here) reported that Hayes — the former Boston College standout taken 24th overall by Chicago at the ’10 draft — has agreed to sign with the New York Rangers, ending a long, drawn-out saga in the process. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/08/20/report-rangers-win-kevin-hayes-sweepstakes/

rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 Yup. Rangers made the finals. Better sign with them because they are clearly the team to beat
amato 3,210 Report post Posted August 20, 2014 Yup. Rangers made the finals. Better sign with them because they are clearly the team to beat I think it makes sense.... he has a chance to make the roster/play with a former teammate, and they're a playoff team. signing with the rangers basically combines the benefits of both calgary and boston. I just wonder if he'll end up living up to the hype of the "Hayes Sweepstakes" ha
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted August 21, 2014 Bit of a surprise but with the Kreider connection it now makes sense Sucks that the hawks are getting a second rounder, wings got nothing for losing a ton of brain trust stuff, guess the Pens east have other rules...
