krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted May 7, 2016 Red Wings players in tournament... Finland - Teemu Pulkkinen #56 Russia - Pavel Datsyuk #13 / Alexey Marchenko #53 Slovakia - Tomas Jurco #13 Sweden - Gustav Nyquist #14 USA - Dylan Larkin #21 SWE 2 vs. LAT 1 (OT) Nyquist scored the game winner in overtime on a beautiful pick pocket in the offensive zone to give himself and Wennberg a 2-on-0, converting on the give-and-go. He also had 5 shots on goal and lead his team in time on ice (22:21). USA 1 vs. CAN 5 Larkin was held of the score sheet but had 5 shots on goal and lead all forwards in time on ice (19:55). CZE 3 vs RUS 0 Disappointing start to the tournament for the host team in a shutout loss. Datsyuk had 2 shots on goal. FIN 6 vs. BLR 2 Pulkkinen had an assist and 2 shots on goal in 14:01 time on ice. Non Red Wings related... Laine is a f***ing stud. I wouldn't be shocked if he's one of the best players in the tournament and THE best player in next year's draft class, including Matthews. He had 2 goals and an assist and 4 shots on goal in 13:31 time on ice. SVK 4 vs. HUN 1 Jurco had a goal and an assist and 4 shots on goal in 14:17 time on ice. His goal ended up being the game winner on a nice tip in front of the net. He also had a beautiful assist on a spin move behind the net, to find Sekera wide open in front for an easy tap-in. Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted May 7, 2016 Also D-Boss Larkin is playing the 1C position I believe. That is invaluable experience and bodes well for next season. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted May 7, 2016 USA takes on Belarus today at 1:00 EST. Jacksoni, yeah especially considering "The Next One" is playing below him as 2nd line center...
Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted May 7, 2016 Larkin looking good against Belarus, playing both on the PK and PP on top of his 1c duties. Scored his first goal in the WC, the 3-0 goal in the second period on a power play.
marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted May 7, 2016 Add Jurco to the list of players having an impact at the tournament. I sure hope our coach learns how to finally utilize these guys next season... 2 krsmith17 and Fonzarelli reacted to this

Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted May 7, 2016 Having watched both Matthews and Laine in full games in the WC, I'd go with Laine as the nr 1 pick. I had to pause and think if I'm right about this, but yes he plays like freaking Mario Lemieux. Possible game changer. Thankfully we have some more games to see whatup with these gems. krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted May 8, 2016 BLR 3 vs. USA 6 Larkin had a goal and an assist and 7 shots on goal, and once again lead all forwards in time on ice by a wide margin (22:17). KAZ 4 vs. RUS 6 Datsyuk had two assists and one shot on goal.

Fonzarelli 73 Report post Posted May 8, 2016 Nyquist score, Jurco scores. They just can't do it for the Redwings. Then again, the coaches screwed everything up, big time. If these guys aren't better next year, Blashill and company will be gone.

kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted May 8, 2016 Does a few goals in a tournament really say anything about a season long performance in the NHL? Apparently the tournament where most players have half the skill level of NHL players is a good representation..
Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted May 8, 2016 Sweden with 4-1 lead going into the 3rd period over Denmark. Game over, the Danes aren't catching up to that. As for players regarding their performance versus a NHL season, in my opinion no of course it does not. It simply shows if you are a prospect or not. NHL is bigger size-wise, more skilled and more physical. At the same time the NHL is slower. But don't expect to speed through the blueline without busting something. There's a reason the game is a little slower and more dump-and-chase.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted May 9, 2016 FIN 5 vs. GER 1 Pulkkinen didn't factor in on the scoresheet, zero points, zero shots on goal in 15:11 time on ice... SWE 5 vs. DEN 2 Nyquist had a goal and 2 shots in 16:16 time on ice. He also had a 2-on-1 opportunity where he faked the shot, made a perfect spin-o-rama backhand pass, but Wennberg couldn't bury it... FRA 1 vs. SVK 5 Jurco had 2 assists and 1 shot on goal in 13:22 time on ice. 1 derblaueClaus reacted to this

Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted May 9, 2016 Sweden losing to the Czech after leading the first period 2-0. Final score 2-4. Nyqvist as anonymous as he has been on the Wings this year. A shameful display!
