Isn’t it Torts job to get his team ready? A good coach would do this.

Turning on your guys in the media is cringe. And immature.

But you guys obvi like when bearded angry men use words like ‘soft’ and ‘balls’ so as you were ai guess?

Honesty = cringe

I'd love to see this collection. An anthropological gem I'm sure.

Honesty can happen behind closed doors. Mouth farting in public is the cringe part but I wouldn't expect you of all people to understand........

What is the benefit of lying to the media?

So in the offseason, I think we need to start talking about a Ben Chiarot 8 year extension.

Chiarot-Petry

Gostisbehere-Holl

Walman-Seider

Maata

That should work out well for us in 24-25.  I think we just didn't play Chiarot and Petry enough minutes and against tough enough opponents.  We need to challenge them to bring out their best

We've got players that won't consistently execute tape to tape passes and Derek's out here talking about the "positive" takeaways from games we're losing badly.

Can't remember which loss it was, either cats or canes I think, but Newsy said the most infuriating thing post game. Something along the lines of "well we're not even supposed to be here" in reference to losing (again) while competing for playoff spot.

What kind of jackass logic is that? Well you are there regard. And your GM didn't sell to gain assets in order to keep you there. So, ya know, the whole "no big deal" attitude, is beyond bad optics to most fans... and probably worse internally...

How are the players supposed to react to statements like that? "Dont worry about playing awful and dropping another one guys, we weren't even supposed to be in the playoffs this year". Does he thinks this motivates them??? Forgiving their awful play and dismissing our goal of the postseason because in Derek's magical personal timeline of fate we arent SUPPOSED to be where we are? You are there! Fuqqing act like it! And then maybe ur team will act like it too...

And b4 anyone says he probably acts differently behind closed doors... thats pretty much just as bad. The coach whom Im supposed to respect and follow is two-faced and says one thing in public and another to us. Wonder who he's talking out the side of his neck to today, me or the media? I wouldnt be very happy if I was Patrick Kane, and I got lured here with promises of pushing for the playoffs, for the coach to non-chalantly suggest we arent expecting to make the playoffs.

IMO its extremely important to have a clear message on all fronts when your leading anything. When anyone in my department at work starts sending emails that are even slightly not insync with the image/goals/message I want, I nip that in the bud hard everytime. Optics/perception/message matters. To your team and to those outside it.

Im convinced this guy is sending mixed signals or his signals are just plain bad.

At least Blash had intellect enough to say something longwinded and boring, instead of something stupid.

Guy isnt gonna last.

I totally agree... he's said oddly dismissive, negative things at news conferences all year.  I think its a ham fisted attempt at managing expectations but comes off as a lack of confidence.  I'd like to see Lalonde go, but I doubt Yzerman fires him.  Bring in Turk Gallant... he's just sitting at home in Summerside collecting cheques from the Rags.

"We didnt play as well as this team has shown it can play tonight. Everyone needs to step up and be better"

How hard is that to say? No one is asking him to be Torts. Just dont be a happy good times everything is okay idiot.

If this team is really that fragile that they cant hear that then we have way more problems beyond derek do good

In the off-season, my top trade piece is Veleno. It's just over in Detroit for him. yet another 2018 Holland draft failure. He had FOUR picks in the top 36 and it was utter garbage. Looking back, in a draft where everybody and their brother knew Detroit needed D, Holland drafted 3 forwards then McIsaac at 36. Utter failure.

Zadina over Hughes, Bouchard, Dobson

Veleno over Samuelsson

Berggren, if he ever gets to play, MIGHT be ok. Maybe he'll get us a D upgrade in trade.

Then McIsaac and 2 more consecutive D.

Drafts are always a hindsight topic, but when they were in desperate need of D, Holland screwed that entire draft. Should've went D with BOTH 1st round picks. Whether it was Hughes or Bouchard and then Samuelsson with the 30th. I will never forgive Holland.

Veleno had a few early flashes but absolutely nothing overly constructive since.   Surprised Yzerman has given him such chances, he clearly isn't big on Holland's guys.

I suspect Veleno will be re-signed again, at a similar price for another year.

A. Because he doesnt have much trade value

B. Because he's a cheap RFA controlled 4C plug

C. Because he just turned 24, and we can afford to wait and see if he develops more

Veleno at 1.5 mil is a good deal.

Id like to let everyone walk.

Kane isnt coming back. This was his see i can still play year. Hes proved that, and will be done with our mess.

Sprong and Perron can go bye bye. Dont get to keep ur friends when u miss the playoffs.

Fischer is okay, but if Derek isnt gonna use him on the PK, then hes a plug. Let him go.

On defense I think Ed is going to have to be the Ghost replacement. We will need him to have a major coming out year. Takeover 2nd unit PP duties and knock Petry off 2nd unit PK. Asking a lot, but we need it.

Kane, Perron, Sprong is a lot to replace in terms of offensive forwards. I think we have to go all in for Stamkos. We need a weapon like that. Even if Kane stays.

Then on the PK we have got to get Larkin off the 2nd unit. The cheap option I want is Tyler Motte out of Tampa. Played with Larks, Copp, and JTC in college. But theres some higher end options there too. Thinking Lindholm, Wennberg, or Henrique.

Only way we fix the D and Net is if SY pulls off some more drastic moves. But at forward I think we will be able to get what we need.

Am I alone in thinking Stamkos will turn in to another Legwand once he dons the Winged Wheel?

Hes still over a point per game player. We need the offense.

For me, next year isn't the year to go balls.  Hear me out on this one, Colin.  Would you be ok if YzerSCAM and LaDUMB moved Petry and Chiarot to our 4th line with Veleno and gave Edvinsson and Johansson 2nd pairing duties?  That's the course of action I would take if I had to work with next year's roster as it stands now.

Let Sprong, Perron, Gost, and Reimer go.

Re-sign Kane 4 years, 6 mil per.

Sign Stamkos 4 years x 12 mil per.

Sign Fischer 1 year, 1.5 mil.

Sign Veleno x years, 1.5 mil per.

Sign Seider 8 years, 8 mil per.

Trade Husso

Trade Fabbri

Berggren-Larkin-Raymond

Debrincat-Stamkos-Kane

Rasmussen-Compher-Copp

Chiarot-Veleno-Petry

Fischer/Kasper/Danielson

Walman-Seider

Edvinsson-Johansson

Maatta-Holl

Lyon

Cossa

Fabbri, Husso, Chiarot contracts cannot come off our books fast enough, imo.  Getting rid of those at draft time has to be priority 1.  We have close to 20 mil of tied up in TRASH right now. We have to convert it to something useful or take it out.

You gotta think he's gonna get Florida 9 if he goes to Tampa or FLA (Panthers signing him would NOT surprise me at all).  To make him pay an extra 1 mil in state tax and live 5 months in sub 40 degree weather, that's an extra 2 mil in my books.  Hockey season in Florida is pretty much paradise.  If the Wings want him, it's gonna cost them.

The strangest thing about Chia is that he's gifted below the dots in the offensive zones.  He's an absolute pylon on defense, but when he activates on offense, he looks exactly like what we need IF HE WOULD JUST HIT SOMEBODY.  The Red Wings have a few issues right now.  They have 2 guys they call defensemen not playing good defense.  And the team is weak and soft as F.  Converting Chiarot and Petry to banger 4th liners with as much license required and telling Veleno to work his ass off on D to cover for them would solve a lot of issues, imo.  We need guys that break body parts of our opponents before the other teams' guys do it to us.  Both Chiarot and Petry have freight train type potential, but play like bunny rabbits.
