Wow, Holl and Gustafsson on waivers.

So who's playing third pair LD then?  Did the team see enough out of ASP that they're comfortable putting him with Edvinsson so Johansson can play with jbd or hamonic?

Albert Johansson, Though I wish it were Chiarot

Bye bye Gust and Holl, Hello Finnie, MBN and ASP.

I am very surprised to see MBN and ASP make the team so soon, but glad to see them both here.

At defense - cutting Gus and Holl is surprising, but not unwarranted. Hamonic wasnt much far ahead of these two IMO, and I wouldnt be surprised if we dont see all 3 rotate up n down throughout the season... ASP is pretty raw and weak in his own end. I almost think this move is more a testament to Todd's faith in Edvinsson, than it is to ASP's current abilities. Meaning: I think Todd is likely going to lean on Seider and Edvinsson HEAVILY, in order to shelter ASP and his pairing. If Eddogg is ready for those top minutes that is a very good sign for this defence.

At forward - a year ago it would sound insane if you suggested MBN or Emmit Fugqqgin Finnie would make the roster b4 Danielson, Buchnelikov, or Mazur. This is exciting. And it lifts my hopes for all our prospects. If these two can steal the show like this then I think even more of some of the guys that I thought were ahead of them both...

I do believe the starting 6 will be:

Chiarot - Seider

Edvinsson - ASP

AJo - JBD

Im expecting this:

Finnie - Larkin - Raymond

Debrincat - Kasper - Kane

Copp - Compher - MBN

JVR - Ras - Appleton

Berggren/Soderblom

I expect Berg + Soder + JVR + Ras + Appleton - and to some extent MBN and Finnie if they falter - to all ride pine at some point.

I think Finnie and MBN will be given more than fair oppurtunity to prove they deserve the spots they just won. A lot of the rest will be a dog fight.

JVR has the advantage of being a seasoned leader who can play up n down a line up as a powerforward...

Appleton has the advantage of being a premier penalty killer on special teams...

These two will be hard to knock out of the lineup for Bergs n Soderblom. Elmer is big and shows flashes of brilliance... but hes got to learn to use that size or else hes just a big AA with flashes of nifty goals.... berggren same thing, lack of physicality, and we have no room for pedestrians.

And this:

Chiarot - Seider

Edvinsson - JBD

Johansson - ASP

Hamonic

Seider and Ed have big workoads ahead of them, with pretty meh partners. But through flame they will be forged harder. I expect AJo and ASP to start the season sheltered, but with every oppurtunity to unseat Chiarot and JBD in the top 4. Both, and JBD, may have to sub out at times for Hamonic, Gus, Holl.

IMO defense is still our weakest position. But AJo and ASP could change that as soon as this year...

At special teams, whatd id like to see:

PP1:

Debrincat - Larkin - Kane

Raymond - Seider

No explanation needed. Our 5 best offensive players. Dont overthink it. Just let em cook.

PP2:

Finnie - Kasper - Compher

MBN - ASP

The young studs. Let em be young wild n creative. This is our future. Go build chemistry together boys. Uncle Compher will chaperone. ASP's ability to walk a blue line MBN's slapper could be a deadly one two for years.

PK1:

Copp - Appleton

Chiarot - Seider

PK2:

Compher - Ras

Edvinsson - AJo

First and foremost, Ras is approaching being done with this team. He's being phased out. Appleton is the better PKer and it's hard to justify Ras in anything other than a 4th line role in regular minutes. He still has more value than Bergs n Soder as a PKer though.

This waiver wire announcement made me happy. Todd said gotta earn it and warned vets they needed to step it up.....

Baby lions eventually take over the older lions and we are progressing to a lot of baby lions in the lineup sooner than later.

My biggest question is where does Daniel-Son fit after he is healed as it sounded like he was being penciled in before the injury

I feel that once JVR gets up to speed, he will knock Berggren out of the lineup almost permanently. ALSO, bold prediction for 2025-26, JBD is going to be the STEAL of the off-season.

I also feel that PP2 is going to be a 3-2 format having both Edvinsson and ASP on the point. No need for a forward when ASP is very offensive minded. But it is such a breath of fresh air to have these options!

...and I apologize, I am still going to go with EMF for Finnie as his three letter acronym. I don't know his middle name, could be Michael or Mitchell, but it could also stand for one of the M's in Emmitt! Sue me!

ASP, MBN, ABD, JVR, JBD, EMF (JTC if I want to add another!) and an honorable mention to AJo! (not quite the same, but hey it's still cool!)

I honestly feel that NateDogg will be penciled in JTC's spot if he is playing like last year's JTC. Putting JTC in the press box for injury back-up. We don't need the cap space, so why get rid of him... To open a roster spot for NateDogg, I feel we will be seeing the last of Berggren sooner rather than later.

Speaking of waivers, I think Gus might get picked up. In the right situation, he could still get 40 points on a team, and his contract is very friendly.

We lead the lead in 3 letter names.....event the Toronto announcers were discussing it last Friday.  Already starting off on the right foot!! LOL

Steve has to be working the phones get a 3rd for Berggren?

More for JTC or about the same and keep Berggren?

I love the bold prediction and think you may be onto something

I feel we are going into the season without the same ho-hum attitude granted D and goalie are still my biggest concern but feel very optimistic.

I think somewhere I read nearly half the team is 25 and under. If that is NOT what The Yzerplan was laid out to be back in 2019, then we're all dumb! We have yet to see how many of these kids hang around this season, hopefully ALL of them, but this is the "patience" Yzerman was talking about. Once they break down that playoff wall, then maybe they'll be attracting a high end UFA or two in the coming years.

Here's the thing. Chiarot played better under The Todd-Father, not saying he will regain his old form, but its a positive. We know Seider, Edvinsson and ASP are legit. They are the top 3 best defensemen on this team. Add in AJo's progression and if JDB becomes the JDB he was drafted to be? Having Ben Chiarot as your worst of the bunch isn't really a bad thing, considering he still plays pretty darn well in certain situations.

We went from:

Chiarot - Seider

Edvinsson - Petry

Gustafsson - Holl(AJo)

To:

Chiarot - Seider (and this isn't even a given, I've seen talk of AJo being LD1)

Edvinsson - ASP

AJo - JBD (Hamonic)

I LOVE that the emergence of ASP and the addition of JDB pretty much silences the EK65 to Detroit talk! If Chiarot struggles, Detroit is only a Mario Ferraro away from having a D Guard that could be top 10 in the NHL.

Seeing all these rookies potentially making the team makes me feel bad for Danielson.  He likely would have made it if he wasn't injured

Don't feel bad, because he would've pushed Berggren out, not any of the other 3. Once he's healthy, and does his rehab stint in GR, he'll be up and Berggren will be traded/waived. His time is up. Once JVR is up to speed, he'll be in the lineup too. I think Berggren is out, and Soda is on the bubble. Not unless he and JVR do the rotating. I can see Danielson bumping JTC to the pressbox.

I wonder why JVR is considered Non-Roster?

He's listed as "out" but "not injury related".

His wife had twin boys a few weeks ago, and he said that one of the boys had to stay in the hospital for a few weeks after the birth. Which is why we havent seen much of him, and I'm guessing this is also why he's now out again. Hope his son's okay.

Just to be clear...

It doesn't appear to me that Holl and Gus have actually left the team. It appears this was a paper transaction... probably in order to:

1. Create roster spots for MBN and ASP for a 9 game tryout for each

2. Create cap relief. By burying those contracts Steve gets a little extra acrued cap.

Steve was probably going to make this move regardless of how MBN and ASP played because of reason 2. The extra roster spots this created is a bonus. And with JVR out as well, might as well see what our top 3 rookies can do through 9 games and then reassess.

Gus and Holl will prolly get reactivated if Steve decides to send any of these 3 down. That will obviously depend on how they play, and also how Todd plays them. If the rookies end up with low minutes at all I can see SY sending em down just to get more gametime for a while.
