I'd love to see a Vancouver-Detroit Conference final. Would be pretty damn legendary.
But how far will the Wings go? Honestly, I'm just enjoying the ride. The Wings, right now, appear to be the best team in the playoffs, even on par with Vancouver (both teams beating feisty but inferior teams 3 games to none with the best goalies playing). A lot can happen, even in this series still, but they are playing near perfect hockey right now and everyone always says you don't beat Detroit in a series when they're playing their game.
Let's put it this way, if the Wings make it to the Finals, they win the Cup. As usual, the Western Conference finals are going to determine the Cup winner.
Doan is going to try to ignite his team by playing borderline dirty to rile up the fans and team. Better watch out for him. The changing dynamic of playing in Phoenix and getting last change and all that could give Phoenix their best chance to get back in this series. The Wings need to stay confident, play hard every single minute, be ready for a battle, and they'll be fine. But they can't underestimate Phoenix or come out flat.
Bertuzzi must have realized the team had a need that he could fill and stepped into the breach. Glad to see he's thinking about his role on the team and trying to help however he can. I liked the name chant because it's always a boost for the players and we need to support them however we can. Plus, "Let's go Red Wings" gets old after a while, singling out players for good play can only help, and it might have a psychological affect on the opponent.
Gee all this talk about this series being chippy and Miller being tougher than Modano, but lets keep Cream Puff Hudler in the game.... Horrible horrible decision... This team is far better with Modano in and Hudler OUT!
So...your idea is to remove a soft, lazy player who scores in favor of a soft, lazy player who doesn't?
There might be something to the fact that these quotes came after* he was scratched. He has always striked me as a little bit of a drama queen even though i still think he was one of the greatest players of all time.
Well, looking back, he's mentioned a few times about not being totally in it to win. He's always sounded a little like he wished he would have retired and was just going through the motions, plus the baggage from Dallas fans mentioning he had become lazy.
I don't know, it's a bust. He may have been a 3rd liner but we all hoped he would be that veteran we needed to win in the playoffs. He's no Dallas Drake, or even a Hossa, if he can't even justify being in the lineup.
Him being in the lineup all season has really hurt some of the line juggling, I think. The Wings didn't want to bench him because there wasn't as much on the line, we were hoping he'd kick into higher gear, and all the other things that go along with it. Maybe this will give Babcock the freedom to go with some really dynamic lines.
Not sure why they ended the suspension at first round. With his track history it should've been season and playoffs, period. Most people would like to see him banned from the league but I won't be too hard on them for not going that extreme. But why let him into the playoffs at all?
The only thing Mickey repeats are little old-time sayings. They just make it feel like you're hanging out with your grandpa watching the game. He doesn't repeat himself with longer phrases every few minutes, every game, that make him sound like he's reading from a script or stuck with a limited vocabulary.
You know what would be cool? A rule that allows you to stockpile disallowed goals. Since so many end up being legit goals called off, teams should be allowed to save up the ones that the NHL reviews and admits were legit, and use them at any point in any future game, haha.
Down 7-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final? Use your 7 disallowed goals to win 8-7.
