Homer's playing because he's putting in effort, and can tip them in when the puck comes at him. I think they need to sit a big name that isn't playing up to snuff or might be injured. The bottom bunch are putting forth the effort.

Unrelated: I seriously love Kopitar. I wish he was a Wing, but I know it will never happen.

At least not til he's 38.

He won't, he's had a chance after 2 straight playoff exits against the same team that's kicking there ass tonight and still has not made any significant changes.

For Christ's sake, what do you want him to do? Parise is playing out of his mind, do you think New Jersey is going to part with him right now? In the off-season there was nobody of any value. Holland is a great GM but he can only do so much if no one wants to do business with him.

This season is so crazy and all over the place. I'm tired of losing to San Jose. They are the one team that just has their way with Detroit over and over. I turned off the game. First game I haven't finished watching because of anger in years. Total garbage. The Wings dominate, yet San Jose still trounces them. it's the same old story. Wings spend 10 minutes in San Jose's zone, San Jose breaks out, scores. Wings go right back, spending 10 minutes in San Jose's zone, SJ breaks out, scores. Rinse, repeat.

Terrible luck against San Jose. I'll say it again, the Wings will make a move at the deadline, but don't get all over Holland because he's not doing something right now. He can't.

I guess no one is bitching about Homer because he's not really doing anything wrong. 5 points seems pretty reasonable. Sure, he's put up better, but he's not a kid anymore, he's not hogging up cap space, he's not being forced into positions he can't play. When he does play he's still effective. Not as effective in front of the net anymore because of the refs, but he's not hurting the team any.

Bertuzzi started off great and only drifted off when the team took a leap off the diving board into the deep end of the pool.

For pride and confidence in themselves, please beat the Sharks. I can only imagine how it's going to start affecting the team if they start thinking of the Sharks as unbeatable. Trounce them!

7-1 final. Datsyuk with four points.

Of the goalies who have played 10 or more games, Howard is second in save percentage (.934). He is tied for 1st in shutouts, but is ranked 1st due to the fact that he has played less games than the other 1st placers. He is 2nd in GAA (1.66) among goalies who have played in over 10 games.

So thus far this young season, Howard has proven he is among the elites in the league. Loving the fact that his stats have been so stable even while the team stumbled.

#2225054 Will Stuart re-sign?

I thought his family moved to Detroit last year or so? Hm...that sounds like he plans on leaving then, whichw ill suck. He's been a great fit and you'd think he would want to stop being a journeyman. Will suck if we have to replace Lidstrom and Stuart.

Finally, some legitimate interesting activity off the ice. Everything has become either a circus or too politically correct. It's good to see some real, hardcore feelings come out.

A Murphy soundboard would just be: "Drunken Garbling #1" "Drunken Garbling #2" etc.

No Kindl again? WTF kid is being benched in favor for 2 trash defenders.makes no sense.

Commodore is doing fine and he brings to the table something Kindl doesn't. I'm all for giving Kindl a shot, but let's get the team back on track first.

Is it just me, or have guys like Draper, McCarty, and Maltby made role players cool?

Ever since the 1997 Cup run, when I played sports, I was ok being a role player if it was a sport I wasn't the best at. If I'm not the star it's fine. Just hustle, make my plays, and help the team win. The stars on the team appreciate the hard work and know you'll be there if they have a bad game.

They have. I've been teaching my ten year old brother a lot about sports. As a kid, he naturally wants to be the ball hog and superstar and when he can't he gets frustrated. I've used Maltby and Draper (he wouldn't really understand using McCarty) as examples of how you can help the team win by working hard and finding what you're good at, even if it's not scoring. He loved both those guys and eventually it'll hit home that being a great role player is just as important as being a superstar.

Maybe its because when I was growing up, guys like McCarty, Draper, Maltby, Kocur, and Lapointe were such instrumental parts to our success, but I find myself liking the "grinders" and "role players" and "enforcers" more than the "stars". They don't get the publicity that the star players get, but their role is just as important. When I look at teams like Washington, many will admire Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Green. I always find myself liking guys like Jason Chimera and Matt Hendricks. It's not that I don't like watching guys like Kane and Toews make amazing plays and split defenses, but I appreciate the guys like Carcillo and Bickell, who work just as hard (if not harder), and don't get nearly the appreciation from the media. Not so say the media hates grinders, but they are often left in the shadows.

It's a lot easier to relate to a guy like McCarty, who plays in a terrible rock band, than to Zetterberg, who owns a clothing line and married a supermodel.

You think they would have set standards to try and implement a system inwhich all arenas had damn near same setups boards and ice wise for more consistency in the league.

I like that they don't have a standard, though. Several arenas have their own characteristics and make it more enjoyable. What I don't like is how San Jose has copied everything the Wings do since McClellan took over, and now they seem to be the one team we can't handle.

True, but I always believed Hossa was the right choice long-term for the Red Wings. The bitterness of the 2009 playoffs doesn't change he's a far better player than Franzen.

Franzen had three more goals last year than Hossa and two less points. Hossa has a tendency to be invisible, too.

And the Jiri Hudler watch continues. How many times have they been down this road with him?

I'm not going to predict anything because they really should have won at least one of the last four (Minny, Columbus were winnable). But if there is a loss here, they're going to have do to a bit more to change things up than scratch the whipping boy.

For starters it appears Flip has been demoted to third line duties, so that's a start in the mixing-things-up department.

#2220475 Kronwall signed to seven-year deal

The man wants to be a Red Wing forever. I couldn't be more pleased. What a steal! Good job, Kenny!!

The whole crop of post-Yzerman era Wings have really showed a lot of loyalty to the organization. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kronwall, Cleary, etc. They're a great crew for sure.

#2220465 why this season will not be different...

Posted by VM1138 on 31 October 2011 - 09:54 AM

Line juggling can only take a team so far. It won't change the fundamental problems the team has faced the last couple of seasons. I agree that a firesale is unnecessary. But at this point what will really help the team more than line juggling is a bona fide second line scorer. Or even a 1st line scorer to round out Datsyuk and Z's line.
