#2620032 Preliminary Red Wings Training Camp Roster

Posted by Buppy on 10 July 2015 - 06:21 PM

Pulkkinen does suck.  He's got one-dimensional depth scorer written all over him.  He'd be REALLY lucky to have a Mike Cammalleri type career, but he'll more realistically top out as a Michael Ryder, Brad Boyes, type guy. ....

Wait, are you saying he'll have multiple 30+ goal/60+ point seasons?

I have a feeling Housley will be used as precedent in tons of arguments for players getting into the HHOF.

Housley and Niedermayer are in, but Zubov isn't?  Lindros isn't?  etc.

I don't think Osgood should get into the HHOF for similar reasons that I think Housley shouldn't be in there.  Osgood had a good long career and was an accumulator, but was never considered among the elite.

Cam Neely and Housley both.  One was great but didn't play very long.  He got Bure into the HOF and Lindros will likely join them.  Maybe Kariya too.

Housley scored a ton of points, but was never an elite defenseman at any point and never won anything in his career.  He will get in players like Andreychuk, and maybe even Turgeon.

The HOF committee needs to realize that a lot of these 1,000+ scorers from the 80's and early 90's are guys who accumulated these stats because of the era they played in.  That doesn't by itself mean Housley should be in.  He's in the Hall of very good (offensively) and I don't want to take away from his being a great offensive defenseman.  But his points are inflated, and his defensive skills shouldn't get him in the Hall.  I can't think of any defenseman in the HOF that I would choose him over.

Osgood was rarely the best goalie on his own team, let alone the league at any given time in his career. I guarantee he doesn't get into the hall, and as far as I am concerned being in the hall is a prerequisite for your jersey being retired.

The problem Osgood has, as I've stated before, is his poor record in Vezina trophy votes as compared to his peers.  I believe he only finished in top 5 for Vezina trophy voting once.  He doesn't rank as one of the 5 best goalies of his generation, which doesn't help either.

A very good goalie who won a lot of games and several Cups, but not quite elite enough to make the HHOF.  But you never know with the voters picking Housley over Makarov or Lindros.

My vote is just Fedorov.

Fedorov is a first ballot HOF that was one of the best players in hockey (won the Hart Trophy) in the 90s. Osgood has the numbers and might get in the HOF, but he was never considered among the elite goalies in the league. I might have a different opinion if he won the Conn Smythe, had we won the 2009 Cup, but it is what it is.

Lindstrom, Yserman and Federov. I miss them all.

After all these years some Red Wings fans still can't spell Fedorov's name right. Lol

Unlikely it'll be either.  But if it's going to be one of those two it should be Fedorov.

Osgood was a big part of the team but is not the caliber of player that the Wings retire jerseys for.

#2618121 Holland doesn't expect to be busy this offseason

I think you're taking my posts a little too seriously.  Given my long standing love of Drew Miller, and my long standing criticism of Holland's "stand pat" strategy, I thought that would have been clear.  Apparently not.

Shattenkirk>>>yandle.

Plus signing Green makes yandle redundant.

#2618418 Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

More Green on TSN: "I was willing to take a little bit less on term to go to a great organization that Im extremely excited to play for."

I thought people didn't do that for Detroit.

New Ken Holland quote coming soon "I don't know why green wanted to come here, no one under 30 ever comes here"

Green vs Zidlicky.

Yea I would take Green 100 times over. Zidlicky was invisible for the Wings in the playoffs, and we needed him the most to step up. Nothing wrong at all with this signing, unless of course you are a Holland hater.

Actually Zidlicky wasn't invisible, he could be seen giving away awful turnovers that directly led to goals against. Dude was good for 2-3 weeks and then was atrocious.

The only thing I want Holland to do today is get rid of Drew Miller.  That way, when we win the Stanley Cup this year, we'll do it with a 100% homegrown roster.  Thus making Ken Holland the greatest GM in the history of sports.

#2617968 Brendan Smith re-signed 2 yrs $2.75 mill AAV

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 01 July 2015 - 12:32 PM

My only hope is he improves with the coaching change.

At the very least I'd like to see him get a chance on the PP.

Dekeyser is reliable out there and makes nice passes but doesn't have a very good shot.  And while Kindl (when he's going through his good phase) can get a shot through traffic, he's a major risk out there on the point.  Could Smith really be worse?

No interest in green unless we are moving some guys out. We have way too many D as it is.
