#2622535 Las Vegas rumored to get an expansion team

Posted by wings4thecup06 on 08 August 2015 - 02:15 PM

Ive been against this idea from the beginning, and now it's one step closer I still find it totally abhorrent. There'll be no real fan base there, and there could be constant links to gambling. And what about the team that lives there? Can you imagine some of the more shadier characters in the league being able to stay out of trouble? It's another desperate attempt by Gary to try and force hockey onto markets it doesn't belong for the sake of expansion fees to fill the pockets of those paying his salary.

The whole idea of expansion is ridiculous.  There's a reason why there's no sports teams in Vegas  :nono:

#2621802 Jonathan Quick on snipers, including Datsyuk

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 29 July 2015 - 02:38 PM

Jonathan Quick has a piece in the Player's Tribune on snipers in the NHL.  It's a good read an an interesting perspective on goaltending.  He picks Datsyuk as one of the snipers to highlight.

Most guys have a little tell. You look at where the puck is in relation to their feet, or the way they’re bending their knees to get ready to shoot, and you just know what’s going to happen before it happens. But the problem with Datsyuk is that he fools you with his intentions. He will be way out on the wall with his hands, feet, and eyes positioned for a cross-ice pass — and it’s the right decision. It’s what 99 percent of players will do in that situation. So you instantly start cheating your eyes over to where he’s going to pass. Next thing you know — what the hell? — the puck is behind you in the net. He shot it. Who shoots from there? Datsyuk shoots from there.

#2621640 Mitch Callahan

I think he makes it. He may be a healthy scratch most nights at first, but Blash seems to really like him. Can't see guys like Andersson staying over Mitch. Gross.

Plus there will no doubt be an injury or two by the time the season starts

#2620600 Johnny Oduya signs with Stars 2 yrs $3.75 AAV

So Nill swaps Daley for Sharp, then replaces Daley by bringing in Oduya. Good to see an old friend playin the Hawks.

I'm only interested in another defenseman if he's a legit top pair guy.  A game changer.  A winner.  The kind of guy who would throw some punk kid's track suit into the showers without batting an eye.

But where would you find such a defenseman?  Who could he be?

Craig Custance @CraigCustance 17m17 minutes ago

2-year deal worth $3.75 million per season for Johnny Oduya & the Stars. Includes partial no-trade. Another strong off-season for Jim Nill.

Still need some D-men, Jim?  You like Kindl, right?  Ericsson?

#2619857 Pittsburgh: America's hockey capital? Lol

Posted by HadThomasVokounOnFortSt on 09 July 2015 - 02:31 PM

Anyone who doesn't think Minnesota is the U.S capital of hockey is wrong. Whole state just breathes it. That being said, Detroit will always be HockeyTown.

That's why we are called the state of hockey. Our high school state tournaments sell out at the X.

Call him up everytime they play Toronto and have him punch Kadri in the face repeatedly while staring directly at Babcock.

#2619589 Wings sign Brad Richards 1 yr, $3 million

Posted by hillbillywingsfan on 08 July 2015 - 10:51 AM

Their chemistry was noted to be the best in the league at some point, some consider it better than Sedin twins chemistry. Even at this age, some of the plays they make is absolutely ridiculous. They're all over the opposing team and their finesse is ridiculous combined. Their no look passes are godlike at times.

nothing beats this one

I would try to sign him and then we can package a few folks together and move them out for another upgrade on the back end

Trade our future for 1 year of Semin? wtf?

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I would consider moving Helm. Krsmith, just looking at your proposed lineup, he looks out of place on that fourth line now, but I've got the exact same top-nine in mind. I can't see him getting "fourth-line" money. Who knows what he's going to ask for next offseason. Abdelkader and DeKeyser will be in for bigger raises, Sheahan and Mrazek smaller ones.

I'd like to see what the team has in Jurco and Pulkkinen, and they're in good shape with Larkin/Athanasiou not far behind. I wouldn't go so far as to call Helm expendable, but he had a good season and he's got younger guys right behind him with higher offensive ceilings.

Edit: Just to clarify, I don't think they'll move Helm. I think they'll kind of do a slow build with Pulkkinen, getting him to earn his ice time. If Mule is healthy, probably use Jurco on the 4th line with Miller-Glendening, which I'm not a fan of at all.

I'm a huge Helm fan and I think he adds a lot of energy and speed to the team and wouldn't want to let him go. I don't think he'll get that much in the offseason unless he has a huge season, but you're right that he won't get 4th line money.

We do have too many forwards, though, and we will also have to deal with the cap and new contracts. We'll have Richards' 4 million cap coming off next year (nhlnumbers says there's a 1 mill bonus) Quincey's 4.25 will also be gone. We'll also have some small contracts likely to take these places (Larkin, Marchenko, Ouelette)

If anyone has to feel the pinch, I would let it be Miller over Helm. I like Miller, but Helm adds more and is a better PKer, can play in most situations.
