It's fun to run 4 scoring lines!  I'd like to see it too.

but, honest question:  Who's going to play defense?  We have a terrible group of defenceman. Who's going to help them out?  Is Marzek just going to stand on his head and stop 40 shots a game?

If we run 4 scoring lines, we're going to look like the Edmonton Oilers.

Tweaking his lines a bit with the same players -

Vanek - Nielsen - Nyquist

Abdelkader - Larkin - Tatar

Helm - Athanasiou - Zetterberg

Jurco - Sheahan - Mantha

Glendening / Pulkkinen

Every single has one if not more defensively responsible player.

1st line - Nielsen

2nd line - Abdelkader/Larkin

3rd line- Zetterberg/Helm

4th line - Sheahan

Every line also has a net front guy -

1st line- Vanek

2nd line - Abdelkader

3rd line - Helm

4th line Mantha

Every line also has a goal scorer

1st line - Vanek/Nyquist

2nd line - Tatar

3rd line - AA

4th line - Mantha

Every line also has a playmaker

1st line - Nyquist

2nd line - Larkin

3rd line - Zetterberg

4rd - Sheahan/Jurco

It's really not that hard to roll 4 defensively responsible scoring lines. Bowman did it. Babcock did it. Tons of coaches did it and were successful. They have the players, they just don't get as creative.

I dunno why you guys bother with all the numbers and stuff when you've got two infallible, live action stat-taking, intangible-measuring, highlight-reel making machines locked up in your skull.  Flowcharts and spreadsheets?  BAH!

These stats are only meant to serve as supplemental information. It's not black and white.

These babies see in full technicolor and they wants to see a new shiny defenseman!!!

Our issues never get solved, glut of undersized unproductive overpaid forwards, lack of defensive leadership, a failure to fix the defense, the needed trade that just never happens and a goalie that should have been traded last year.

This GM continues to focus his time on unproductive pieces (Helm, Miller, Cleary etc) while DeKeyser is yet to be signed. Really wish Yzerman was the GM and Holland would have moved upstairs,

out the door or wherever, what a mess.

#2681960 Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

What a joke of signing Kenny needs to go freaking idiot why are we signing D's retreads that's why we will never win anything what about Jimmy's contract no one is gonna take that abomination

You must be a man or postmenopausal because you are...

...missing some periods

#2681897 Frans Nielson signs 6 year $5.25m AAV contract with Detroit

People cry and cry here that Holland never signs players...he signs a decent hockey player for a contract that isn't terrible on a day that is famous for the worse deals. People still whine...whats he supposed to do?

Sent from my STV100-3 using Tapatalk

I want to answer this in a very respectful way. What bothers me, and I'm sure others, is the lack of any proactive strategy by Holland. He seems completely incapable of making any bold moves. He is entirely reactive and far too safe by only going for what is available for purchase vs. applying any creativity or risk to making deals with what we have. This is further compounded by his endless excuses and arguments that the decisions he has made were the only decisions possible. Too many of us buy into this and respond, "What else was he supposed to do?" The lack of vision goes beyond Holland to many fans. We have been duped.

Add to this his completely outdated mindset on treating hungry young skilled players like they need to be on training wheels until they are 26 while sticking with a growing roster of underperforming and overpaid mid level veterans. I think his lack of strategic thinking and planning was illustrated most with Lidstrom. Of course you can never ever ever replace him, but where was the plan to even try and fill that massive gaping hole? The attempt to get Suter? That was it? That was the only card in his hand? A smart GM living in reality would have been developing multiple options for the inevitable retirement of #5 including combinations of draft picks, trades for players, trades of picks, free agents... all cultivated over many years. Or truly pathetic D corp is glaring evidence of KH's lack of not just "genius" but competence.

Let's now add to the mix some contracts and decisions. Weiss (while letting Flip go). Franzen over Hossa. Tootoo for how many years? Bringing back Sammy and Cleary? Erricsson? So many more... Dear God, how can anyone claim even one of those deals was the sign of genius? Oh, just wait and see where Blashill is in a year or two.

As for offense there seems to have been some planning (and luck) for the inevitable loss of Dats and Hank with Larkin, AA, Mantha and a few others, but all too little and too late by keeping most of these kids on GR training wheels so we can do what, extend the streak? You can argue about that, but there is one more thing that screams idiocy to me. What GM calls out a player like Mantha and literally insults him in the press? Even if it is true, how incredibly stupid is that? Thinking ahead, if/when KH would ever consider trading Mantha, I'd be the first GM to pull out those articles/quotes as a bargaining chip.

A trade is obviously coming. Perhaps Mantha is in that deal

Please fire Holland right now. WE DO NOT NEED THIS GUY!!! And for 6 seasons??? He might net us an extra couple of points via the shootout, but that's about it. He brings NOTHING NEW! I would have been happier standing pat than this, which I suggested. If you can't get the big fish, play the kids.

I'm sof****** sick of Holland it's not even a joke. He's killing this team.

Okposo just signed with Buffalo for not much more than this.

Holland is beyond incompetent. I don't even think his apologists can apologize for him anymore, but I'm sure they'll try.

#2680873 Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

Whatever, I like helm. And with the high interest in him, he would've gotten more on the open market. Seems like a pretty tradable contract even a few years from now.

I love how now that Stamkos is gone people are sinking to the likes of washed up players... Only to ***** about it once we get them.

No more washed up players for the sake of fan hindsight whining.

There's no way you choose Okposo and Backes over Stamkos. We have more than enough depth throughout the entire lineup. You know what we lack? Elite level talent. There is only one elite level player that will hit free agency, quite possibly the best player (taking into account age) that has ever hit free agency, including pre-salary cap... You don't pass that up for two depth players...

If Stamkos signs elsewhere, then we look at other options, but you don't pass on a player of his calibre... for depth...

#2679833 Drew Miller re-signs... 1 year deal $1.025 million

A combination of a speedster and Glendog and Miller is a good idea for now. As the young centers get more experience they will likely transition into bigger roles.

I couldn't see it either, it asked to download some app, eventhough I'm on a pc

Here's the Chart

A slow piece of s***. But who cares, speed doesn't matter in hockey anyway.

Can Lucic play without the puck? You've got to be able to play without the puck if you want to have any success in this league. The best offense is never having the puck and always defending. Can Lucic never have the puck and always defend? Can he block shots? Can he kill penalties? Can he take faceoffs? Can he Luke Glendening? Can he Drew Miller? Can he fourth line? Is he a proven winner? Is he a guy you win with? Is he elite, elite? Is he real good? Is he heavy on the puck? Is he real responsible defensively? Is he real good defensively? Is he grit? Is he leadership? Is he veteran? Is he leadership veteran? Is he experience? Is he big? Is he physics??? Is he from the Michigans?????
