#2526888 FLA to Buyout Jovanovski

Posted by rick zombo on 29 June 2014 - 12:11 PM

I think this was the only guy to ever publicly come out and bash the Wings organization after we tried to sign him.

Something like, "those guys need to learn people aren't gonna take discounts to sign with them".

Yup. I hope he enjoyed the extra 500,000k/year or whatever to play with Pheonix and Florida. Now he gets to retire a broken down vet that’s never won anything when he could have come to Detroit in 2006 and contended for a cup or two.

Not to sound too hash.

#2526772 Kesler traded to Anaheim

Some of you may disagree with his approach to trades and UFA signings. Fair enough.

But one thing Holland can do as a GM is run a draft.

I think we should all, as intelligent Wings fans, be able to agree on this.

Here’s hoping Holland can dump Kindl and Andersson on someone tomorrow for a 2nd round pick.

I agree, didn't want him anyway.  I don't know why so many fans are so offended every time a player doesn't include Detroit on a list of teams to go to.  I wondered if it was exclusively a Detroit thing or if other fans of other teams get offended by it.

For fans that grew up watching a team like the one in 2002 assemble itself, it's safe to say that we're just spoiled.

It used to be fun being a Wings fan on July 1st and at the trade deadline, until the southern team's owners and their little bald gremlin minion got together and ruined it

It's interesting, every time i read quotes from Holland I sink deeper and deeper into a state of depression.

Yup. Holland should start ripping his shirt like Hulk Hogan, and roaring like the Incredible Hulk about how he's going to punch Franzen in the nuts and then trade for all the awesome players.

Or he could say something about how he wants the team to improve, go deeper in the playoffs, and how he'd like a top 4 right handed D man. But he already said that.

Except people hear what he says, and they think, for some inexplicable reason, that this mean that he doesn't care about the team improving, he just wants to make the playoffs and keep polishing his "streak" trophy and doesn't give a s*** all of a sudden about losing in the first round, and is out golfing instead of trying to acquire that much needed defensemen.

#2526131 Kesler traded to Anaheim

Why does it always seem like teams get steals when it comes to trades and we're always getting f***ed? I don't care for Kesler anyway and glad he stayed in the Western Conference.

Well, for starters, Kesler only wanted to go to Anaheim or Chicago.

Vancouver took what they could get for him under the circumstances.

So part of it is that none of these guys ultimately want to play in Detroit. As painful as i may sound, would you rather live in Detroit playing for a bubble team or live in Anaheim, playing for a contender?

Let's not forget that Suter actually wanted to come to Detroit, but the wives and Parise signing forced his hand last minute.

What a pile of s*** that whole scenario was.

Unless he really likes a team offering less I think he takes 8 years over $6 mil.

Unless he re-signs with Pitt, he can only do 7 years.

Yeah, I see him trading down.  Someone they like is going to slide down the chart given how bunched together everyone is after the top five or six picks.  I called Kempe a few months ago, and I'm sticking with it.  They'll trade back two or three spots, still get their man, and get a 2nd to replace the one lost in the Legwand clusterf***.

Edit:  Larkin wouldn't be a bad pick either, and he's a center (Tyler Wright seemed to indicate this would matter).  But I'm sticking with Kempe.

Agreed. Holland is going to do what he can to get that 2nd rounder back.

Ritchie, Tuch, Perlini, Larkin one of those 4 pls stay the hell away from guys like Ehlers, Barbashev. If they pick him might as well throw the pick away because he will go to the khl if things arent going his way Also enough with the small soft euros need some hometown boys and size and grit

The last two first rounders were Sheahan and Mantha. Combine that with the fact that Nastasiuk and Bertuzzi were taken in round 2 and it seems less likely that you'll have anything to complain about on the "small soft euro" front.

Just look at what Wright has to say:

"We're confident we're going to get a good player at 15," Wright said. "Whether it's a forward or defenseman, we'll take the best player available."

"I think the center position is a major piece of a building block in a lot of organizations," Wright said. "You can never have enough centers."

"We'd like maybe a right-handed shot on the back end – size, speed through the middle of the ice," Wright said. "You can never have enough puck-moving D and scoring wingers.

"Passports are really irrelevant," Wright said. "We have to be visionaries. We have to start projecting who's going to be the best player 4-5 years down the road. The Red Wings have done a tremendous job developing players once you get them in the system. We just got to get good players. We want passionate, hard-working players who won't stop at anything to get into the National Hockey League. Passion and character are big to me."

All signs point to a big, mobile, hard working center.

#2526030 Teams to be compensated for losing personnel to other teams

Posted by rick zombo on 27 June 2014 - 12:17 AM

Wings aren't team Bettman west..

It blows.

It seems no one great wants to come here to play. Because of parity. All the management wants to leave. Because of parity. Chicago either wins the cup every year or makes the conference finals. Because of parity?

A truly great organization like Detroit’s deserves to be looked after better by this league.

If this were baseball, Illitch would just *****-slap Selig for a few hours, and we’d get a non-homoginzed team that reflected ownership’s passion.

Instead, we get a league that not only doesn’t really promote successful Red Wing’s hockey, but actually implements practices that have helped make Detroit worse.

Oh nice. Now that the Hawks and Kings are losing guys, they implement this. Where the hell was this rule 4 years ago when the rest of the league started slurping on Detroit’s teet?

Typical.

One would have to think that sooner or later hockey karma will kick in.

I’d do Tatar + Ouellet + Andersson + Kindl + 1st

for

Kesler and Vancouver’s 2nd round pick (36th).

Would they do that I wonder?

#2525867 Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

Posted by rick zombo on 26 June 2014 - 01:12 PM

I would realy applaud Kenny if he gets this done...hell, I applaud him for going after him...

As long as he doesn't offer him one of those under paid "because we're Detroit" contracts.  Holland needs to outbid the other GM's on this. Show us and his team that he means business and business is winning a Stanley Cup, not just making the playoffs.  Give him 7 years $50M and a NTC.

7M per year for Niskanen as token gesture that one of the best GMs in the NHL means business. As in, he cares about winning?

Let's say this happens:

Kronwall - Ericsson

DeKeyser - Niskanen

Smith - Kindl

Lashoff

Where do Backman, Ouellet, Sproul, and Marchenko fit in two years?

I'd much rather sign Gilbert - 2 year deal

Mark my words, if Gilbert signs in Detroit, he'll outscore Niskanen for the duration of his two year deal.

Well his recent moves he had made and hasn't made support that....

Even if it you were just stating this as opinion you'd be way off base.

To state it as some sort of proven fact is just insane.

Well his recent moves he had made and hasn't made support that....

My friend, the onus is on you to be clear with your original statement. It isn't on us to ask you to clarify.

I've said several times I only want him if he is cheap less then $5m. But I wouldn't mind having him on the team.

And the suter thing. Really? Holland did everything possible to get him here, he'll suter even promised him he was coming, not Holland's fault

Agreed. That's what I was trying to express. Kenny offered Suter big money and term. It wasn't his fault that he signed in Minnesota.

It's really unfortunate that people here get the impression somehow that Holland doesn't actually give a s*** about this team.
