Being a goalie in Detroit has to be one of the worst jobs in sports. Calder trophy nomination season top 5 SV%/GAA, 30 wins, a game 7 road win and a .915 SV% in the playoffs and he gets called a sieve. He's faced the most shots and has the most saves out any other goalie in the playoffs, he didn't cost the Wings a damn thing.

Exactly, unless people want to get rid of Zetterberg to get an "elite" goalie that could still just fall apart (Luongo, Theodore etc.), I'm completely content with having Howard make the first save, he kept the Wings close and we couldn't bail him out.

Whoa, no way, a defenseman made a mistake. If only they all were Lidstrom. Rafalski scored a billion goals and was an All-Tournament defenseman for a reason. If he could have scored for the Wings as consistently as he did for Team USA the Wings' would have never lost a game.

Seemed to make the team play with more balls. Had guys like Meech and Cleary fighting while he was here. Hopefully Abdelkader can fill this role as best as he can next season. May had an effect on this team, I don't care what anybody says, they played with balls when he was dressed.

Whatever the future plans are for this team, they have to stay in the downtown area. The season ticket base has to be priority in their business plan.

I sent Nick a text asking if he's going to keep playing. He answered "how did you get this number?". Not sure what to think.

Hossa was our leading scorer when he played with us AND has an exponentially better defensive game. I think Kovy is a better pure goal scorer but I'd take 40 goals from Hossa in a season along with his well rounded defensive game and superior play making over Kovalchuk any day. If Kovalchuk hits a slump he's practically useless. If Hossa hits a slump he'd still be out there killing penalties, dishing out assists, and backchecking like a mad man.

I'd rather not have another Leino around here. "Put me in, or else" This McIlrath kid does sound pretty kick ass, we'll see how it comes out though.

Price is actually a good goaltender that can be great, just wasn't his year, and the douchebag montreal fans didnt help out at all.

Excellent information! I agree whole heartedly that Howard deserves way more respect than he has been given by many of the posters to this forum! The safe assumption is that Howard has learned a tremendous amount during his first NHL playoff experience. And with that experience should come an increase in confidence, and a goalie to build and reshape this team with. He's earned the starting position next season, and it will be up to someone else to perform and knock him out of it. Good Luck to them. GO WINGS!

I could count on 1 hand how many bad goals Howard gave up in the Sharks series. Most goals he allowed was 5 on 3 and 5 on 4 goals. Can't blame Howard because his team couldn't stay out of the box.

Cheap as dirt, excellent stats, and still crapped on. Let's walk through the regular season numbers. Brodeur: 45 wins, paid 5.2 million. $115,555 per win. Nabokov: 44 wins, paid 6.0 million. $136,363 per win. Bryzgalov: 42 wins, paid 4.25 million. $101,190 per win. Howard: 37 wins, paid 750 thousand. $20,270 per win. Top ten in wins, a fifth the price. He's earned some serious respect.

I think Pavel was our most consistant player in the playoffs. Howard, Lidstrom, Z, Franzen etc. all had great games here and there but Pavel was great in every game.

After what Howard did this year I'm not going to throw anymore prospects under the bus until they get a real shot with the Wings.

Give me a break. The fact that it was your team that benefited from the horrendous officiating in this series makes all of the above really easy for you to say. Were the opposite to have happened, you'd be crying bloody murder. Oh, and nice job writing up this post after making a totally obnoxious one in the game 2 video thread. Did you not like the fact that the mods deleted that post? He was also completely brilliant at points and stopped shots that would have evaded most goalies.

Vancouver's a young team. They have plenty of time to win the Cup. This isn't their last chance. Seems like people are talking like it is.

I wouldn't mind seeing Filppula traded.He's been a bit of a disappointment..
