The NHL is looking for some new referees. It would seem as though you would fit their current profile of refs that they are using these days.

    Youngsters ditching the visors

I haven't noticed, no. But then again I'm blind. I lost both eyes to high sticks because I wasn't wearing a visor.

    Youngsters ditching the visors

Yes, I've played at fairly competitive levels as well. The amount of injuries I've seen from random pucks far and away outweigh any negativity that a visor would bring. To me there just isn't a good reason not to wear one if you are actually smart that it is.

Pointing out a freak injury involving a player wearing a visor makes about as much sense as pointing out a freak injury that occurs because someone was wearing a seat belt. I understand cages and visors are annoying and restrict vision, but they prevent many, many more injuries than they cause.

    Youngsters ditching the visors

Can't wait for someone to bump this thread when an injury to the face happens to someone. Hopefully not a Red Wing. Pleeeeeeeeease?

I love the GDTs we have...

That would be cool, if it wasn't for the Sharks.

    Jimmy Howard watch thread

Just because? Howard has been wildly inconsistent all year, with extended stretches of poor play. This is more noticeable because the Wings have been only average defensively, and have not been a team which can account for their goaltender's weaknesses and protect against them. If MacDonald plays a good number of the remaining games and looks great while Howard looks like crap, or if Ozzie comes back and looks great and Howard isn't getting it together, there's no reason Babcock "has" to start Howard. Starting a guy in the playoffs just because he's the guy you had intended to start way back when doesn't get you anywhere. In 1994, Bob Essensa was started in the playoffs despite the fact a rookie Osgood reclaimed the starting job and was playing more regular season games than Essensa - after having already won it from Cheveldae. You start the guy who is most likely to lead you to victory.

Was at the game last night and wasn't able to gather any rational thoughts when I got home... I'll let you figure that one out. But horrific start to a game which we have seen all too often lately. The middle of the 2nd to the 3rd was some of their best brand of hockey and lucky to see the Penguins become undisciplined with a big lead, yet again. Flips and Modano were playing out of their minds last night. Flip was probably the best player on the ice the 2nd half of this game. Even aside from the goal, Modo was making plays, skating hard, and throwing some weight. Helm was being Helm and even a great game for Abby. We have to look at this game as nothing but a positive because of the circumstances and it being a comeback scenario. Hope the momentum carries over and we can get a player or 2 back for the tilt against Vancouver.

THIS Being at the Joe last night was the true rollercoaster of emotions. From the I hate my life please let it end already to the intensity of cheers rising up with every goal. My heart was pounding, my legs were weak, and the atmosphere was electric. Having never been to a finals game, I can only imagine that this is what its like. Well worth the price of admission.

Detroit has 9 points on the Hawks. The only way they take less than third is if the Hawks take the Central, which they won't.

To which you respond, "Okay, but then again... Matt Cooke. That is all." If they somehow don't know who Matt Cooke is, which wouldn't be all that surprising even with all the notoriety, then I guess you could just bring up Hines Ward's reputation for being a dirty player and then say that those two are like two gutless peas in a sociopathic Pittsburgh pond.

I was at the game too. I couldn't believe the amount of Pens fans there, all wearing Crosby jerseys. It was so quiet and boring for the first 2 periods, then the 3rd was insane. Great game overall to attend. Wings got screwed in the shootout. Great save by MacDonald on Kovalev, that was a pretty nice dangle.

I have more confidence in Joey Mac right now than I do with Howard. So I hope to get the point across Joey gets a few starts in a row.

3/21 GDT: Penguins 5 at Red Wings 4 (SO)

Came home when the Wings were looking like it was headed for a loss (and when there were people s*** talking about this game being over).. I don't feel down about losing in the SO... Wings have never been good at it. Confident that the offense can stick it out and come back when they need to. Just need to work on the defense and goaltending.

It's great to see Modano get rewarded with a goal. He's been picking his spots well lately, and has come very close on a handful of occasions. Great to see him finally bury one of those chances.

Its definitely the player's choice. Absolutely ridiculous to even think they'd make visors mandatory.

I ditched my cage... for a while. Then some moron turned and blindly fired a puck right at my face from his own corner and I wound up with 9 stitches in my cheekbone and a permanent strange tingling feeling in my right temple whenever I touch it. Point is, even if you do things right when you aren't wearing a visor, you can count on some other idiot screwing things up for you.
