Darren Helm signs 4 year extension
Sycsa reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
I hope I don't get a lot of negs. I was not calling it a bad signing, or that Helm is a bum and not worth it or that Holland should be fired. I was just hoping for less of a cap hit in order to make sure we have the cash to bid high of the players we need to change this team. I am glad Helm is going to be part of that and hope that he signs again in 4 years to a lifetime contract...I just hope that this trend doesn't continue with the overpayment (around the league) because like I said, it's going to ruin the NHL when the Colton Orr's are making $4M soon... That being said, we still have $24M left to spend of Abby, Parise, Suter, Harding & Schultz & Dekeyser & Welsh...so far I haven't lost out on anyone from my wish list! (yet!) -
1 pointfor those who think this contract is a little bit high, did you all see how screwed the team was without helm at the end of the season???

League takeover of cash-strapped Devils may be inevitable
IllinoisRedWingsFan reacted to VM1138 for a post in a topic
I get why the league is loathe to let teams fail, but they're too eager to jump in and bail out teams like Phoenix who have no hope of ever rebounding, thus dooming the NHL involvement. And then, when they finally move, the NHL will have done nothing but waste resources. Why is it so hard for American businesses to see the writing on the wall? I'd hate to see Jersey move, but reality is reality. They're not as far gone as Phoenix, but this has been a consistent problem. If there were any sort of real punishment in the NHL this wouldn't be happening more frequently. League takeover should only be a transitory situation. A two year chance to get business affairs in order should be plenty. If after two years a team has not righted the ship it should be sold or allowed to go bankrupt, even if it makes the league look bad. -

Thinking of Buffalo Wings.....
Z Winged Dangler gave a reaction for a post in a topic
Filppula scored over 20 goals and 60 points this season as a winger. Is there any particular reason why we should swap him for someone who can score as many goals but hasn't the same passing skills or defensive aptitude? Vanek is not as good as Parise. You would not find any Sabres fan who would say otherwise. And every Sabres fan I know (except a cousin of mine who is in love with the guy) believes that Regier made a massive mistake in matching the Oilers' offer sheet for Vanek. None of them believe that he's worth the price. -

Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?
Z Winged Dangler reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
Yes, but then Franzen only score 1 goal from March to June after that... -

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?
Z Winged Dangler reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
...and honestly, if Quincey were to accept the $3.125, then I guess it would be ok, but I honestly hope he is NOT a Red Wing this season...Maybe Holland would trade his rights and Kindl at the draft for something...I am hoping for Detroit three defensive signings being Suter/Schultz and then DeKeyser as #7... -

Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?
Z Winged Dangler reacted to fixxxer for a post in a topic
If that's true Franzen's stats are heavily skewed in just a handful of games there's no amount of good stats that Franzen has that I would want over what Parise brings and his intangibles. I honestly can't believe you would compare the two. -

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz
Uncle Danny reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
Which is why Holland should sign him and let Quincey walk for the draft picks... I am telling you (not you personally) that a tandem of Smith and Schultz is going to be the Red Wings version of Suter/Weber...and guess what, they are gonna get Suter too! (then in a perfect world, Weber comes along next year!) Seriously though, Smith/Schultz will be a great tandem...Holland needs to get this kid signed...along with DeKeyser... Very VERY important to get these kids signed... -

Why isn't the Wild in hot water for their owner's comments?
centcougar07 reacted to ogreslayer for a post in a topic
No, no it doesn't. Simply put, there was no public comment made by any member, past or present, of the Minnesota Wild organization in regards to going after Parise in free agency. That really is the only way that the league will automatically go after the team for tampering. Sure, the Devils could file tampering charges & try to convince the Commissioners office to investigate. Realistically, the only way that happens is that Parise ends up signing with the Wild straight out of the gate on July 1st. And if all the league can find is that a 72 year old former GM of a completely different club, popped off at the mouth during a radio interview, nothing will come of it. Unless they can find hard evidence that there was a distinct plan to leak info out to the public (say like in an internal email chain) through Nanne or, like in the case of the Blues tampering w/ Scott Stevens when he was an RFA years ago, the actual existence of a contract that was drawn up & discussed with Parise's agent prior to July 1st, the whole thing will go nowhere. -

Nashville to trade Suter's rights?
IllinoisRedWingsFan reacted to ogreslayer for a post in a topic
Cheli trying to push for Suter to sign in Chicago? I call bulls*** on that rumor given that, oh I don't know, the fact that Cheli actually works for the Wings maybe. -

So one would think... sadly enough 1-2 million extra on top of the crazy amounts they already get sometimes overpowers a players choice. Perfect example was in the NBA; Ben Wallace left the Pistons to go to the Bulls said he needed to provide for his family. I forget the lengh of his contract but it was something like 42 million offered by the Pistons and 48 from the Bulls. At the time the 'stones still had their key pieces and could of went back to the finals. My point is you need that extra few million to provide for your family? Really? LOL. Its like some of the players just don't care about that ultimate prize. Side note<<<<<<< BASKETBALL SUCKS -

Gee Mr, Russo, seems like that is a cookie cutter headline if I ever read one! <insert team and $$$$$ under the cap here> The difference is Mr. Russo of the Star Tribune, the Red Wings are looking to get back to the Cup final and Parise will help them do that. You have no one to help Parise get to the final on the Wild... BTW, where has centcougartown been? Maybe he is getting more love for his expertise on callofthewildprospectpool.com... -

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz
Uncle Danny reacted to kipwinger for a post in a topic
If you think the kid is good enough to be comparable to those players then by all means, your point is valid. I've heard nothing to suggest that he's as good as all that, so I'd rather see him develop first. I've said all along, if he's in the company of superstars at this stage in his career then give him a contract. However, based on the (limited) information I have about the kid, it doesn't seem like he's in that category. -

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz
Uncle Danny reacted to kipwinger for a post in a topic
Again, read through my posts, I don't disagree with you. I've said from the beginning that he should be offered a two way contract and given the opportunity to earn a spot in camp. But he absolutely should not be GUARANTEED NHL playing time without ever having played outside of the NCAA. That was what the whole debate was about from the beginning, whether or not he should be guaranteed playing time for the Red Wings as a condition for signing with the organization. -
