Disagree. Chelios was a dirtbag who used to cheap shot Yzerman, and on occasion goad him into fighting. He was traded here and became a fan favorite. Drake was a cheap shotter early in his career, and big time in St Louis, and yet when people talk about the 08 cup they always mention Drake's physical play. Tootoo will be fine, and a good addition to the very, very soft line-up we had last season.

This was already a tragedy of epic proportions (with the young kids involved, especially), but as with any story, seeing her Twitter feed and reading some of her hockey stuff brought me to an even greater level of personal connection and sadness. She was actually from Texas and was pursuing her career in Colorado. Amazingly, she was nearly involved in the Eaton shopping mall shooting in Toronto not even two months ago. The idea that such an innocent person could be nearly caught up in a public shooting rampage (which are still extremely rare), blog about it, and then have it happen again not even two months later in a different country and thousands of miles away...it just blows my mind. I heard something Chris Connely said about this generation of young people, 9/11, and other tragedies on the B.S. Report (Simmons podcast) that stuck with me. He talked about how a lot of people don't understand the obsession with social media and the need to constantly keep friends, family, and even total strangers "in the loop" about what you're doing at a given moment. And he wondered if it had anything to do with a generation whose formative years were marked by Columbine, 9/11, anthrax, and the War on Terror, and in the face of the constant thought their life could end without warning, young people "document" their own lives as a way of saying "I was here. I lived". Who knows if there's any truth to that, but I'll say one thing, reading that girl's Twitter feed about how she could be tweeting about Shea Weber's contract and excited to see the opening of some movie only hours before her death...there has to be a lesson in there somewhere. A lot of her colleagues and other hockey people who interacted with her in her short lifetime were on Twitter this morning angry, distraught, and destroyed by this. By all accounts, she was an A+ person. All the victims and their families are equally important, but there's always that "one" that seems to hook you. I virtually never cry because of things in the news, even ones as tragic as this one, but I remember watching a Columbine memorial, and the description of one of the victims sounded just like a high school age girl that I was friends with the time, and I just lost it. What a waste.

Tragic. I don't even know what to say... It's a sad, sick world we live in and it makes me glad we have hockey to give us something positive to focus on. My heart goes out to the friends, family and loved ones of those involved in this horrible atrocity.

Can you imagine the amount of lazy a line with both Franzen and Semin would have? Thats a whole lot of lazy.

Bertuzzi didn't even land a punch. I'm saying Weber wouldn't have done it in the first place if he knew somebody like MacIntyre or Engelland would be after him at some point in the future. Who would?

If Weber does go to the Flyers, does this mean we'll see him smash Crosby's face into the boards?

In saying what you just said, wouldn't you think the owners should get more than a 50/50 share? What financial risk does the player have? Guaranteed contracts, have zero financial risk for the players. If Franzen turns into Cheechoo, he still gets paid a large amount of his contract. If Illitch plays like Cheechoo, he just lost Millions of dollars. The risk/reward is much greater for the owners. Also, I don't really like the long term contracts, though I feel they should "allow" 1 or 2 per team to be dedicated to keeping "franchise" players of whom the team has drafted and developed. The rest, I would like to see a 5-6 year maximum on. As much fun as it may be to watch a GM paint himself into a corner with $100 million lifetime contracts to lure the top free agents, it really just leads to another lockout coming in the future, and doesn't promote a healthy business model. The main priority of the CBA, is to keep the business of hockey at a sustainable level. Let's hope both sides can remember that.

Maybe Kenny will get him Bobby Ryan for his B-day

    Bobby Ryan

Remember - having Ryan would, I have to think, only help our chances re: landing Perry and/or Getzlaff. Imagine a top-6 with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Ryan, Getzlaff/Perry, and Doan. [/supremecreamdream]

Man Stuart was soo bad for 2 years why do people have such a boner for him... Quincey will be a better defenseman this year and people will still think about Stuart as the better option.. Quincey is gonna get hated on here no matter how he plays it seems

    Mike Modano pondering comeback?

Your misinterpreting. No one here is giving him grief about his time as a wing, and certainly none of us here are bitter towards him. I was really excited when he first signed here and it was just a huge shame for his career to end with a freak injury before he even got a chance with us. I so badly wanted him to go out on top as a wing. Would have been an awesome end to the awesome career of an awesome player....awesome. Like 2 ppl here gave him grief and I don't think they even realized he was injured by a skate so forget them. Fact is, there is no room for him here...we don't even have enough room for the players we already have signed...He's a bottom 6 forward and we have 10 bottom 6 forwards....I'm a very pro-Holland guy, but it would be beyond moronic for him to sign Mo right now. I wish him luck elsewhere though....if another team actually gives him a contract, which I don't think will happen.

A full training camp with this system will help quite a bit. I think Q will be a better defenseman this year than he was last year for us.

Ok....Brunner, better than Hudler....Sammy, better than Hudler...Tootoo, better than Hudler....seriously though if Brunner nets 20-25, Sammy nets 20-25, Tootoo reeks havoc and makes it harder to play against us, we are already better offensively than we were last season... Smith may turn out to be a 40-50 scorer...this is the year Kronner tops 40...Sammy WAY better defensively than Hudler... re-sign Abby and we lose Mursak and Emmerton probably...Nyquist will get 30 points (if not more as long as he stays in the top 6.) I am all for making the deal for Nash or Ryan, but honestly, this team doesn't suck, they have a TON of young heart and enthusiasm...more so that they have had in a LONG LONG time....hey guess what, back up goalie is better than last year too! BTW Howard is healthy, remember last season when he was healthy? He was leading all the talks in the Vezina department... I think Kronner really steps it up this season to become the leader he was touted to be when they drafted him...Smith will get heavy nods for Rookie of the Year (be nice to beat out that guy from Minn. I'd ) and I really think this Brunner kid is gonna surprise a lot of people...we won't know until this is the final roster...would like Doan and Nash/Ryan...but if not, then I think we'll still make the playoffs and along the way make some loud noises! I think if Franzine stays he needs to get 40 goals in order to secure his spot on the top line...this the year for him to prove he is that top line scorer... speaking of "the year," lest we forget Filppula is in a contract year and will be looking to earned $5M+ on his next one, so you never know, he may top 70-80 points...life is good in Hockeytown. Even with losing Lids and Stu....we took more steps forward than we did back... edit: As a matter of fact, the talk is who is gonna replace Datsyuk when he retires, where is he gonna come from...well if he stays, look no further than Val Filppula...I know I talk about trading him, but if he remains a Wing and signs a "career" contract like Kronner, he will be the #1 center in a few years...

He has been given attention and adoration since he was 14. He has hardly had the hard knocks that you and I experience. Sorry, but I don't really care if things are a little difficult for him now. He still has more freedoms and choices while concussed than anyone here does healthy.
