I don't understand how one guy gets his thoughts published and some take major offense like he was talking to you... oh wait! maybe he was!
I am not saying he is totally right, But he has a couple of valid thoughts in there.

I actually have to agree with the writer of that, for the most part. And I've seen develop what he suggests:
It's not like there isn't room for "other" type of fans. It's that those of us who've been around a while have seen the type of "entitled" fans that the writer takes issue with far too much take a piece of enjoyment out of something we're supposed to be supporting as fans by the constant yammering and bitching about every little f-ing detail of the team. It's one thing to talk, to express disappointment in a loss, be a critical of a signing or a lack of signing, to be critical of a team after years of disappointments, but the sense of spoiled entitlement reeks heavily, and indeed like the writer of that I do wonder if these people actually do even enjoy watching hockey and the Red Wings. They shouldn't be surprised when more tempered fans get irritated at those entitled fans (mindfly was one of the biggest here) who flip the f*** out after any single event and do little else other than whine and spew negativity about something they (and others they're around) are supposed to enjoy.
It is certainly going to be interesting to see how these fans fare when the team isn't nearly as successful. I saw the same s*** develop with 49ers fans from the 90s and on. It's like watching the same thing happen in a different league and decade.

meh. If I wanted to read condescending, self righteous crap, I'll read Mitch Albom. He's pretty much cornered the market on it.
More likely what happened is the guy went from being a sports fan as a kid, then returned and saw how it is as an adult. It's like people forget that the word "fan" comes from fanatic.

MacDonald had two good games last year, and was mediocre in the rest. He's a career third-stringer.

It's the fact Holland always sits and sits and sits .... then once the trade deadline passes, he says, yet again, "I like our team and there wasn't anybody out there we liked." With Holland it's the same company line every damn time he is asked about improving the club. Last year he said the same nonsense in the summer. He said we need a Top 6 scorer. And then the trade deadline came and went. Again. This is Niks last season, and i'd like to see us back in the Finals and winning another Cup. Who can honestly say he is going to shock the NHL and make big swaps to get us back to where we belong. The man is complacent, whether he's waiting for our young guys to get here, or he is simply gun-shy.
Ian White and Commodore? Yeh I bet he beat out 6 or 7 other GM's lining up to sign those two, huh? They are DEPTH guys. Nothing more. Yet some already got White pencilled in as a Top 4 guy.
    Still waiting ...

The Wings seem to be in denial that they've lost two years in a row in the 2nd round, and to the same team.
Holland seems to think that we have a good team, and he's right. He's not right, however, in not trying to take this team to the next level.
We're not a Cup contender right now. There's no reason to think we're a better team than last year. We are a little deeper on defense, but our forwards are one year older and are too frequently injured. We need some new blood desperately at forward, before the injuries start kicking in again. The secondary scoring wasn't consistently there in the playoffs. Neither was our forechecking from the 3rd and 4th lines.
I'm starting to think that Holland is content with 2nd round playoff losses.

You do realize this is what Holland says EVERY summer. And so far, Ian White and Mike Commodore are laughable additions. White couldn't find a spot on the 3rd or 4th worse team in the NHL. And aside from hitting, what else is Commodore going to bring? Forgive the arrogance here, but we are the Detroit Red Wings, not the Maple Leafs or the Bluejackets.Geez, last year we needed to add at least one more top 6 or 9 goal scorer to our forwards. This year the team is definitely weaker, and all we have is the same-old-same-old from Holland. The famous, "wait and see, I won't overpay, I won't rush even if it means waiting until the trade deadline. I have a plan ..." nonsense.
As many have started asking the past few weeks, what the hell is Lidstrom thinking right now, as Holland hasn't done anything at all to improve our club. Not good enough, Mr. Holland. Not good enough at all.

The lot of you are shockingly spoiled. Which other team has had the success that the Wings had? Which other GM has brought success like Holland has? And now you feel that because of one bad move, because of one rough offseason, he should be fired. Fans of every other team tell me that they think Holland is the BEST. I feel pity for he and for others in the organization that so many of you have so utterly lost perspective, from so many years of success that they have given you, that you have lost the ability to be appreciative for the fact that you have a great team to cheer for every year.

funny really... Thats all that anyone saw.....most of that was about picks and being an agressive GM and that is all anyone saw.
Burns (in my opinion) was just the final shoe to drop that got Babs angry.. seeing Carter to CLB for rights to a RFA and a 1st and 3rd being a trade we could of made as well.
My focus was on making the team better.....via trade...as it has been said we would do. I realize the season has not started yet....and Its a long season once it starts...
And I guess San Jose doesnt covet their young talent like the Wings do. I am with Babs I am upset we didnt get him... dont ask me who to trade....I never once dropped names like some of you did. your asking me when your all telling me " I am a idiot..." and A furious fan because we didnt get a good player for nothing... Whatever folks...
I also realize that FA starts on Friday. and we have money.... should get a lot of guys. But the question is...... Will we? I reserve the rights to have doubts... But Ill wait till after the holiday weekend.

Way to dodge the question 'Hockeytown_Ryan'. There appears to be some decent UFA options out there that can be had without giving up assets. Holland can even afford to overpay for a 1yr deals if needed.
Again, San Jose seemed to think he was worth something because they HAVE ASSETS TO GIVE UP. Red Wings do not. Unless you want Red Wings to be bottom feeders for the next 7 years because Holland gave the future studs away for a one-year chance.
Smith has a higher ceiling than Burns... so lets give him a way for a concussed UFA defenseman? And hey, Wild will demand Sheahan, Helm and Filpulla too, Git-R-Done Kenny!!!11
    You are a tool
    EDIT:
Probably because they have mid-level top 6 assets to trade. Who do Wings have in that category, Holmstrom, Bertuzzi? Lol.
Wings junk is not worth gold, sparky.

How? Trade Datsyuk? Trade Filppula + Helm + Sheahan + Smith?
Highly doubt Wild 'wanted' a 2-way forward that doens't even score 20 goals, so Holland would have to sweeten the deal by throwing in Helm and Sheahan. And I highly doubt a team like the Wild want anything to do with a 10 year+ contact in Franzen. So who do they trade? You really think Holland should mortgage the future for a above average dman with concussion issues and will be an UFA next summer?
    Really?
Boy, sure glad you are not the GM of this team...
Thankfully, Illitch is too smart to hire anyone with your inabilities anyhow.

I don't see Holland trading Hudler unless it's for an offer he can't refuse. Hudler, despite having a bad season, is a pretty damn good goal scorer. Last year was a fluke, and anyone with any hockey sense knows this.
As for Wishnewski, it's worrisome that the guy is moved around like a bad disease. Montreal fans are pretty much torn on whether they should re-singing him or not. He's been the whipping boy on every team he's played on. I don't see that reputation changing anytime soon. Especially at the cost it will take to get him.
He could fill a hole, but I am not too excited about him.
