1/24 GDT: Nashville Predators at Red Wings

Look on the bright side, guys. We could be staring down a 14 game losing streak, (not-so)proudly donning the Yellow'n'Blue of a similarly named franchise.

Hopefully, if something is to come out of these two losses, it's a kick in the pants to the usually unquestionably dominant Wings that they need to crank it up a notch if they wanna secure the division. If one were to inquire why this didn't happen after yesterday's game, however, I would kindly request of that person to shut up.

I have been none to thrilled with Babcock's, "Oh, I thought we played really well," excuses. No, you have not. We'll see what he says this time.

Wings won in Nashville 4-3, seems like you need a new calculator smile.gif

Unless I completely missed what was being talked about, the overall score right now is 6-6. Wings won 3-1 earlier this month and Nashville takes two games 2-1 and 3-2.

Excellent game between two excellent teams. When Kariya gets a chance like that, what can you do? And Vokoun wasn't going to be beaten last night. If I were a Wings fan I'm not sure how upset I could be.

It doesn't prove much at this point of the season. But it does feel great for us Predators fans who don't have a storied history like yours behind us. We're just enjoying the rivalry and coming of age as an NHL franchise.

Congrats on a good game, and here's to plenty more.

Wow... the behavior of some Wings fans in this thread has made me regret voting for LGW on FanZone and stating how welcoming we were to other fans as a reason. Don't I look foolish. ohmy.gif

Passion my friend. Want to know what's scary, Lions fans are more passionate imo, that's a different subject however.

1-12-1 scoring 1 or 2 goals.

30-2-2 scoring 3+ goals.

peace

Where do you get those wonderful stats?

I love Batman wordplay.

Oh and some I find on handy dandy websites and others (like the one above) I look up myself.

That one was onhand pretty easily since it came up a week or so ago and I tried to to just add the recent games to it (from memory) but as I pointed out I slipped up on the wins.

peace

you have to admit though that this team is better than us... maybe not in every aspect but in a lot of important pieces.

I have to admit the preds are better than us? Umm, I certainly don't think so. That game in Nashville we dominated. Last nights game, we dominated (except Vokoun played awesome). I refuse to admit that they are better than us until they can beat us in the playoffs...and even then I'll need some real convincing.

The only aspect that nashville is better than us is goaltending.

Well, I give in there. Vokoun outplayed Manny.

I was just mad because I wanted to see a shootout...

Which I think we still would have lost but none the less good game to you too. No matter what anyone says here you gotta great team.

The way the game was going with the lack of offense, it sure looked like the game was going into shootouts.

I'm just most upset about our lack of scoring in the 2 games. Not to knock Vokoun, he really did steal the 2 games for Nashville. But when Detroit outshoots ANYONE 79 to 42 in a two game series, we should have more to show for it than 3 goals (2 of them by a defenseman).

1 place where we can put the blame is they went 2-9 on the powerplay yesterday and 1-7 on the powerplay tonight that is pretty laughable laugh.gif

Now that I'm done laughing at how quickly you came up with those stats, that data makes me very very sad.

sad.gif

If it makes you feel better I messed up and we are 31-2-2 scoring 3+ as opposed to 30-2-2? tongue.gif

Isn't Ottawa in the same boat as us in that catergory? And what movie were you talking about just seeing for the first time?

Ottawa is winless (or was a few days ago I'm not sure if they pulled out out though I don't think so) when they don't score at least 3.

And yeah M*A*S*H.

Harold,

Yeah I liked it. Took some times to get into some of the different actors but it worked. Corporal Walter "Radar" O'Reilly was always my favorite character. I was pleasantly surprised they kept the same actor for the tv show (I can't for the life of me come up with the name, he's the only hold over that I noticed though).

peace

The only aspect that nashville is better than us is goaltending.

I'll take Kariya or Sullivan for a clutch goal over any of our forwards.

Defense is almost equal as well, the main difference being Lidstrom.

I think you could possibly make an argument that the Preds are better than the Wings on defense also. And depth if that's a category cool.gif

You're correct. Radar was the only character who was played by the same actor in both the movie and the series. Gary Burghoff was the actor (as you're no doubt looking it up now...) laugh.gif

*edit* Er... Only one to keep a recurring role... G Wood played a General in the first few episodes, and Timothy Brown had many apperances as Spearchucker Jones...

True. In a general aspect, when you look at overall goals allowed and goals against, we have allowed about the same goals, while scoring way more.

see there aspects that help out Nashville

I mean hell look at Perreault his face off % is ungodly I doubt Yzermans % is even that high. I mean they just have certain guys that help their team out a lot more than the players we have.

Depth? You're joking. There's no team in the league as deep as Detroit, besides maybe Ottawa.

Defense, like I said, roughly equal but there's no way Nashville has an advantage, no matter how you slice it. Lidstrom surely breaks any possible tie.

I have no problem with the game starting 1-0 Nashville considering what happened in THAT game. On a clean slate, the boys better come out and jump on the puck and get the lead. We play a hell of a lot better hockey with the lead than without. It also allows teams to play more defensive, to protect the lead and then jump on any turnovers and opportunities they get offensively.

We just are not a great come from behind team. The boys need to come out and show Nashville who owns the Central.

GO WINGS

The Preds are a little new at this owning the Central thing. Do we get a receipt or something? A pinkslip transfer maybe? hehe.gif

Who will be signing that title over to us now? Manny? Babcock? Stevie?

Hello Wings fans, Mastrick from over on the Preds discussion boards. Just want to tip my hat to y'alls organization and team - this is going to be one heckuva fun season series. A quality franchise with a history against an expansion team building from the ground up, two of hockey's finest teams. It's 4-3 Preds now in three meetings with five left to go, let's all show some class and have some fun watching some of the NHL's best hockey!

Preds are awesome though I gotta admit. At least both teams had the same amount of penalties - so it looked even at least. Nashville did a good job capitalizing on their chances both games this week. Vokoun played an awesome game as usual against Detroit and every night. While on the other hand, some goalies can't seem to follow the shooter. Regardless, I tip my hat to da Predators. It's obvious who the better team is kinda - even though there are still many more games to play between the two. When and if the Predators beat the Wings, they deserve the cup. Just watch out for Calgary lol laugh.gif

And how can you say your not a nashville fan? You are one unloyal wings fan if not. Anyways. I agree that our stars do not show up, but come on asking a wings fan to admit that a good team with a great goalie is better than you? No. Lidstrom or Markov (or Erat)? Do you even have to think? If you refuse to see that the wings are a good team despite a few mediocre games, than you'll be in for that "surpise", not me. I know Vokoun can beat us, but that isn't what you asked. You asked wings fans to admit that Nashville is better and their not. End of story.
