am i the only one who doesnt worry about the polls at this time of the year?? Polls dont really matter til the end of the season. Michigan wins the rest of their games, they will be #1. Michigan doesnt, it wont matter because the winner of the Michigan-Ohio State game will likely be in the national championship game and the loser wont.

Yeah, I don't think it's fair to say Ohio State's played 3 ranked teams and Michigan only one. Two of OSU's ranked opponents just didn't happen to be ranked when they played Michigan. Same team, it's not like they got worse in between playing OSU and Michigan. So really, it comes down to the difference between Notre Dame and Texas, and I think you'd be hard-pressed to say which is better right now.

As for the margins of victory, that has everything to do with the fact that OSU has a primarily passing attack and Michigan is a grind-it-out power running game. Michigan is #1 in the country for time-of-possession at 34:09, OSU is 23rd at 31:21. Defensively, I don't think anyone would say there's an argument as to who's better. At 269 rushing yards against all season long, there are teams who average more than that per game. So "dominant" is pretty subjective. Michigan hasn't run up big numbers on the scoreboard like OSU, but Michigan suffocates teams with old-fashioned Big Ten football.

Yes, it's pretty much a non-issue, but we must have something to obsess over between now and Judgement Day.

Of course, its half the fun of it all.

I wouldnt say we've been running up the score. Tressel's been pretty quick to put in the second and third stringers. Michigan's defense has been the best in the nation and I agree with your argument about ranked opposition.

But our defense has been the epitome of bend, dont break. We give up yards, but they always find a way to come up with a turnover or force a stop and keep points off the board.

I think the OSU-Michigan matchup is the most intriguing game of the year just because of how different they are.

Aren't Michigan State fans used to not worrying about the polls? Zing! :P

Me! (feels like I just raised my hand  ) I havent really watched the polls at all this year, besides the 1st BCS releasment. I know U-M has a tough enough schedule to control it's own destiny. If they win out there is no way you can say no to them if your picking the NC game. It is fun to argue about though...I'll admit I don't like the small schools being ranked high such as WV.

WV is hardly a small school, unless you consider anything below the most elite programs "small". They're like Maryland, Iowa, Georgia Tech, etc. Nothing wrong with having them ranked so high.....IF they deserve it. WV does have a dynamite QB-RB combo, and unlike most schools they're undefeated, so I have no problem with a top-five ranking for them. But are they better than Michigan or OSU? No. We'll find out what they're made of when they play Louisville and Rutgers.

I figure the team that wins the Lousiville-WVU game will beat Rutgers. If not, ND can beat USC and open the door for them getting back into the national championship game (however unlikely, considering Florida and Auburn also have just one loss), which is not something I'm willing to stand for!

I dunno....Rutgers could surprise some people. Big East coaches are saying Rutgers is the only school in the conference with a running game AND a defense. All three of them have played garbage schedules so far (although Pitt, which RU just beat, is a quality team), but in two weeks is that Louisville-West Virginia matchup, then Louisville-Rutgers after that.

I would absolutely dig the idea of Rutgers crashing the BCS....there's extra at-large bids this year, so if they can beat either UL or WVU, they can make it.

That what I meant by small school..not literally, but status wise compared to other schools around the nation. I don't have a problem with WV being ranked in the top 5, but I just really doubt they could play like they do playing in the Big 10, or SEC.

Well, the Big East isn't really much of a conference, but West Virginia would smoke a pretty solid majority of Big Ten teams. Actually, there's only four teams in those two conferences that I would see beating West Virginia: Michigan, OSU, Florida, and Auburn. And Auburn's a maybe. If LSU, Iowa, Tennessee, Penn State, Georgia, etc. beats West Virginia in a bowl game, I'd call it an upset.

West Virginia has one of the best NCAA college football programs. They are always competitive and just when you call their conference weak, they beat a good Georgia team in the 2006 Sugar Bowl in Atlanta.

The Mountaineers deserve to be ranked high and if they are 1 of 2 teams undefeated at the end of the year, they deserve a shot at the National Championship.

Your right they beat Georgia, but my question was could they do that week in and week out if they played in good conference.....

Bad news for Henne....

He was seen with some kind of subtance on his hand during the Iowa game. He told the refs it was dirt, and Lloyd made him wash it off at half. Hope he plays next weekend..... :D

No, Manningham will be the reason the Buckeyes lost. He's going to be back a week or two before Armageddon.

Got that right Matt! Also remember the name Carlos Brown. I have a hunch he will be used in a trick play against OSU. If he's on the field you know it's coming because he never plays.

Bad news on Arrington. Sounds like he has got into some trouble. He will probally be suspended just b/c of the publicity he has got even though not convicted of anything. He finally got out of Lloyd's dog house...looks like he will be back in there very soon

This is probably way to early to talk about, but what if U-M beats OSU, and U-M plays in the NC...is that Lloyd's last game?? Or does he wait till Henne/Hart leave, and a few more years with Mallett?

Since when do Michigan fans overlook Ohio State???

Never have never will. Just something interesting to talk about during the down time during the week. Since when do you decide to rejoin the college football talk?

I have never left. Just talking more in the world series thread.
