They ought to be able to earn the #2 slot on their own merit if Michigan runs the table (in other words--beats Penn State and Iowa) coming into Ohio.

Well I'm a little worried about Penn State. But rankings won't matter if it comes down to playing OSU. If both teams remain undefeated, whoever wins will go the the National Champ bowl. And let me just say this before the fact, if OSU wins out and beats Michigan (which I hope they don't) I will go on the record and say I will pull for them in the big bowl game............

Now for Auburn to beat Florida...

Notre Dame gets to beat USC.

And Michigan/OSU will determine one of the participants in the title game.

It will anyways. If both teams are undefeated, Michigan will be ranked no lower than #4, OSU still #1, and there's no way that Michigan beating OSU wouldn't jump them to #1. And of course OSU would be in with a win, out with a loss.

Here's the real twist: If Michigan and Ohio State are undefeated, clearly the winner plays for the national championship. But it could easily be the first time in history where the loser of Michigan-Ohio State goes to the Rose Bowl. How's that for a consolation prize?

Hey remember U-M has to beat PSU on the road, and Iowa before we start talking about this. If U-M gets through the next 2 weeks we can talk about it because the rest of their schedule is a cake walk.

NOT GOOD NEWS: rumors as of right now, but sounds like Manningham is out for this weekend, and maybe longer....

Super Mario out 2-4 weeks according to ESPNews with a torn meniscus. Uncle Lloyd is denying everything though, which ins't suprising.

Breaston/Arrington are going to have to step up now. So is someone else...maybe Greg Matthews, Doug Dutch, or Carl Tabb

f***.

Oh, I ain't worried. Notice that Michigan's strength has been the running game on both sides of the ball. They still have that dominant run defense. In fact losing a wide receiver, even Manningham, has the least impact on the team of any position they could lose. Besides, even without Manningham, the top three of Arrington, Breaston, and Tabb are three that any team in the Big Ten, outside of Ohio State with Gonzalez and Ginn, would kill for.

And 2-4 weeks would mean he comes back in the middle of the cakewalk portion of the schedule at the latest - plenty of time for him to get back into game speed for the one that matters most.

I couldnt decide whether I was happy Manningham was out or not. I mean, he's from Ohio, and apparently not good enough for Ohio State (ps I know thats not true) but I want Michigan to be undefeated coming into the big game.

By the way, earlier in the season I wondered, but now I'm sure we'll beat anyone we face. A little bit arrogant sure....but we've played every game to our opponents. The only game the Bucks have given double digits to is Iowa. I expect them to more than likely give up double digits in the Michigan game thats over a month away. but I am very confident we will win. Because as piss poor we look against the bad opponents, we look amazing against the good, which Michigan is.

To the MSU fans, the funniest thing I've ever heard is the MSU Radio guy the Monday after the Notre Dame game, do you think MSU has any chance to beat OSU, because before Michigan, they are the last time I have worries about.

It's tough to replace two TDs a week... Perhaps I'm just a bit nervous here... there are still a couple of big games to play before OSU. Here's to a speedy recovery, man.

I'm really not worried about losing Manningham. If Arrington hadn't stepped up this year I would be, but Arrington is 6'3 and has deep threat speed. He can defintley fill his spot. Carl Tabb/Greg Matthews are good possesion recievers. Lloyd was talking up Matthews a lot during the conference so he looks to be promising. Breaston will play his regular role. Plus we got TE's that can catch.

I remember reading in a U-M magazine before Manningham's freshmen season that OSU never really had a shot at him because Manningham 's team apparently had some past conflicts with Mo Clarett, and neither him nor Prescott Burgess (same HS) wanted to be by him.

Now Yahoo! says it's a torn ACL. He had arthoscopic knee surgery Tuesday.

I don't suppose that might alter the time table at all...?

They were talking about it on ESPN today and mentioned the surgery, saying he *might* be back for the game against OSU.

Damn.

That article is stupid since it's entirely inaccurate. There were no riots here after the Michigan game last year or 2000. It's funny in that its true that we do like to burn couches and dumpsters and the sort, but people think there is a bunch of crime around OSU which simply isnt true.

I'm sure up at Michigan there isnt any crime since after most games people are attending wine and cheese parties (or perhaps during the game, by the sound of the crowd who could tell).

I guess when you're not winning a rivalry the best thing to do is to tear apart the rival, infact, I'm surprised there wasnt much mention of the Cooper era in that article, since that seems to be what comforts most UM fans.

What the heck? I'm not trying to "tear apart a rival b/c we haven't won latley" Why would I bring up the Cooper era? College sports is all about what just happend not the past. Maybe the article isn't tottally accurate, but I guarentee you some if it is...where theres smoke theres fire. I also know there were riots after U-M 2000

Um, was that article even meant to be accurate? That was a straight-up Onion clone.

But if you don't like to be pigeonholed as violent couch-burning thugs, there's a simple solution: Stop burning couches. When your school has to spend $30,000 to put a stop to riots and try and get fans to stop acting like assholes to visiting fans, you have a problem. When over 40 fires are started in response to a victory, you have a problem.

And if rioting is a "tradition" you actually defend and rationalize, that's a BIG problem.

I agree with BetterRed here. Don't be mad b/c your school is known nation wide for being trouble makers. There is a reason why Texas has said they will never play in Columbus again.......

Auburn beats Florida. Another team in front of Michigan goes down. Couple of other big upsets too: Vandy over Georgia, IU over Iowa. And USC is tied 21-21 against Arizona State. Michigan's holding on to a 17-10 lead right now....so they could conceivably be the #2 team after this week. USC will lose sooner or later. Even if they beat ASU, they've had too many close ones against teams like Wazzu, ASU, etc.

The pollsters ought to vault Michigan over USC and let this thing be settled in Columbus.

The Wolverines have the most powerful, ferocious, and dominant defense in the nation and they showed it tonight, save for one ugly play. Offense had an off-night (largely in part to the loss of Manningham, though Arrington stepped it up), but the defense was just brutally efficient. Seven sacks, two QBs knocked out, oh man what a game they had.
