Detroit Lions, NFL 2006 Season Thread

I'm pretty excited for Monday Night Football tomorrow night.

I'm not the biggest of Saints fans in my neck of the woods, but tomorrow night is going to be something special.

A different team and a different attitude with a 2-0 start. A winnable game against the Falcons if they can contain Vick.

But, much more importantly, the 1st game back in the Superdome, the same place that Hurricane Katrina rotted, in over a year.

I'm not going to be at the game, but it's going to be an event worth remembering.

The re-birth of a great Amercian city. We've still got a long, long way to go to completely recover from the storm, but slowly and surely it is going to be done damn it, and the Superdome is just one of the many examples tomorrow and in the future that will show this city is going to make it.

New Orleans will be re-born once again, and I'm proud to be a part of it.

The Lions got over a big hurdle today. Losing to the Pack proved to be a tough loss, but they came through in the end. It was really close. Green tried to give them a win, but the Lions hung on to the loss. Thank goodness! My dream of 0-16 is still alive.

looking at their schedule...they got a good shot at doing that. I think the key is getting to 0-7 and then getting that boost during their bye week. The 49ers game and the turkey day matchup against Miami are the only games I am worried about in the 2nd half.

Not a big MNF fan, but the the game last night was very special and fun to watch.

It defiintely was.

I watched most ofin the French Quarter which is just outside downtown New Orleans and the Superdome and the whole area was just jumpin and happy. I never saw so many people down here this happy and excited and hopeful about something for a long time. It was so much fun and it felt good just to see everybody enjoying themselves and relieving some stress temporarily. Thank God I got out of the area though right before the game ended, you can only imagine what the French Quarter was like after the game with all the celebrating.

Oh don't be silly, these are the Lions we're talking about :P they'll find some way to beat the most unlikely team (perhaps Atlanta) for no apparent reason at all. In fact it's not totally out of the realm of possibility that they win 2 of the next 3 to go into the bye 2-5....mount a mini-rally to get to the very fringes of playoff contention....make everyone think that they've got some real bite after all.....and finish 7-9 to ruin their chance at drafting that shutdown corner they desperately need. They're the Lions....they do s*** like that.

Now, the offense was clicking today, against a St. Louis defense that isn't actually a complete embarassment to the state of Missouri. In othe words, they're starting to learn how to score against mediocre defenses, which all the next three opponents have. So they just need to put it together on defense, which shouldn't take longer than three or four games. Just in time for Bye to come to town, and we never lose to Bye!

Bad sign though: Daunte Culpepper is playing poorly, which means Harrington might get the start against us on Thanksgiving. So he'll be in Ford Field, and he'll see the Honolulu blue unis, and he'll get all confused and throw to the guys not wearing blue just like old times, only this time those will be his receivers, and he'll go for 400 yards. So Thanksgiving is already in the loss column.

I think that Roy WIlliams first down pose is hilarious! Just something about seeing a guy on a winless team talk smack...i laugh every time! Mike Furrey is the man, lock this guy up. Even if he's eventually just a #3 or whatever...the guy can play. Its nice to finally have signed a WR and have it actually work out! Schroeder, Hakim, Jefferson, K Johnson, Bradford...the list goes on and on.

The defense is deplorable, god does Fletcher suck. The bad thing is i dont see improvement coming any time soon. As others have said...theres just nothing there aside from Rogers at this point. Sims at least you can hope for, but with the rest of these guys(aside from Bullocks)...what they are now is what theyll always be. Theyve already reached their ceilings. It could take a couple years to rebuild this, and by that time Martz will be gone and we'll be having problems on offense again. Its a vicious cycle, that is of course, unless we make Martz the HC to stop him from walking. (NOT saying we should) I heard there was no cap on coaches though, so hell, just throw a s***load of money at him to stay here as OC.

50+ years and counting.

That reminds me of a shirt i remember seeing last year. "Detroit Lions - Rebuilding since '57" (i think it was '57). Friggin hilarious, i shouldve bought one. I wonder if theyre still around.

Heres what you said

You know what, you're right, he must be terrible.

Get a clue.

And if you didn't want to continue to talk about Favre, why did you throw another jab in there?

Sidenote: Yeah, and Harrington and Kitna have been just money for the Lions!

WOOOOOW! This has nothing to do with the Lions! No crap Favre won a Super Bowl. He's been the best QB in the last decade, and ranks among all time greats. You have to admit though, hes not what he used to be...JUST LIKE HASEK. That was my point!

I understand why people don't think Favre currently is what he used to be but there's a reason for that. You can put Peyton Manning on the Packers, and it isn't going to make a difference at all. The Packers won't win any more or any less just because Manning is their starting quarterback. The point is, the Packers were not a good team last year or this year for that matter. Favre has absolutely no targets (aside from Driver, who is doubled teamed every time he's on the field), and thus has to try and make things happen, and take a few more chances.

You put him on the Colts, and you'd be singing a different tune.

I agree with that

Than why did you throw Favre in your initial post? That's the main reason I was upset with what you said (throwing Favre in the mix).

You're contradicting yourself.

I agree that it doesn't matter who GB's QB is because all the other players suck. But I'm not changing my opinion that Favre/Hasek are simular....

Than we'll have to agree to disagree, because I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Thats fine. Hey I love watching Favre when he's out there having fun, and winning....not a lot better then that. All I was trying to say is Hasek/Favre are not as good as say like 5 years ago. I wasn't bashing his great career

Ok, but I still disagree with you here. Hasek, just one season ago was the front runner for the Vezina before he was injured. Put Favre on a team with a talented offense and you'd see the same Favre you saw 5 years ago. What's incredible about Favre is the level he's able to play at even with no one around him. Hasek can't say that.

Got home from golf today and found out the Lions gave up 23 4th quarter points. Damn I am proud of them. Thats a tall order, even for the Lions. Coming through with that loss just shows me how committed this team is to perfection. From the Ford family to the fake ass cheerleaders I thank you all for the passion.
