Anson Carter an (e4) Detroit according to Eklund

I hope that he ends up with the Wings. If he sucks, better for me. If he's good, better for entertainment's sake.

e4 is as high as you can go without being confirmed. This is the kind of rumor that makes or breaks Eklund. e1, e2 doesn't mean crap but people rip him for that stuff. e4 is really sticking his neck out, so I wouldn't be surprised if this really happens.

The wings reportedly offered Dumont more money than the preds, so i'm sure they can come up with an attractive package for Carter.

If he does come here then I hope he doesnt turn up like Ray Whitney: 24 goals, 52 assists before he came to detroit then he ends up geting 14 goals, 29 assists for detroit. Anson Carter is coming off a 33 goal season, and a player like him wont usually repeat that.

I would like to see Anson Carter come to Detroit, he will adress a need for scoring. I know he is not a really phyisical guy but I do not think that he would hurt the team in any way.

Well, I agree that he wouldn't hurt this team and that he could go a long way in replacing Shanny's 40 regular season goals. But the problem is, if we sign Anson Carter, the roster is essentially set, and after an off-season full of promises, we'd be left with a team very similar to the one that got bounced in the first round last year. This is especially true for our forward unit. Despite the floating Shanny committed from time to time, he did provide arguably more toughness than anybody else in our top six, and with him gone, we're even softer than last season. Personally, I felt it was quite clear that the Wings needed to add a forward capable of driving to the net, but it seems less and less likely that Ken Holland is going to acquire such a forward.

Not to mention the fact that signing Anson Carter basically means that Jiri Hudler, Tomas Kopecky and Daryl Bootland will all have to fight for one roster spot (at the most).

IMO, Carter isn't going to make or break the year.... He ain't going to be the difference maker in advancing in the playoffs, so why bother? Blah, I'd take Bondra of Carter... it'd be a one year deal for about 1 mil cheaper.

In Whitney's defense those points he got in Columbus came because he was on the 1st line and on the 1st power play unit and basically they used him in all situations.

When he came to Detroit he got stuck on the 2nd and 3rd units and didn't get 1/2 the playing time he had in Columbus.

It wasn't that he bombed as a player it was that he didn't get the same amount of ice time.

PS, he had a really good playoffs this year and I was not at all surprised by it. He's a good player when used appropriately. We did him no justice in Detroit.

Right (about Whitney). We don't have Shanahan, Yzerman, Robitaille, Hull, or Fedorov anymore. It's completely different.

Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Carter, Holmstrom, Williams, Lang is a top 6 in Detroit now (with Carter). Samuelsson and Hudler probably replace Williams and Lang, though, on the top two lines.

Carter Datsyuk Holmstrom

Hudler Zetterberg Samuelsson

Williams Lang Franzen

Cleary Draper Maltby

I REALLY hope Draper and Maltby play like it's 2003. Maybe then I'd trust Drapes up on a scoring line, and there could be changes. Carter plays well with Swedes, so I wouldn't mind putting Hudler with Datsyuk, but I'm afraid of what that'll mean as far as extra duties for Holmstrom. He'd have to work harder on a line with Datsyuk/Hudler.

this question might seem a little dum but I'll ask it anyway...what does e1, e2, e3, e4 mean??

thanks for the help :)

Its basically from less possible of happening to most possible. E4 usually means the deal is already signed or that its right around the corner from happening.

If true, I'm not to overly excited or annoyed, I guess you can say I'm on the fence. I hope we don't overpay for Carter, because I'm not banking on him scoring 33 goals as a Wing because of our depth.

If asked, I'd rather see Bootland or Kopecky out there instead of Carter, but whatever.

EXACTLY! Same thing happened with Lang, he got less time than he was getting in Washington when he was playing with nobody and scoring 40 goals, I'm telling you, if we put Lang on the top 2 lines with Dats or Zetterberg, he'll score 30+.

All three of those guys are far more effective in the middle than they are on the wing. It would be stupid to hurt someone's productivity considerably for the sake of putting Lang on a top-2 line, when we can have three first line centers all centering decent scoring lines.

Yeah good point but at the same time, look at our centers. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lang, Draper, and Johnson.... Johnson is already manning the 4th line, so Draper can man the 3rd, Datsyuk 2nd, Zata 1st.... Lang is a good center, no doubt, but he can also be effective on the wing. Draper is a good center as well, don't leave him out of it.

Thanks for pointing out the obivous. Everyone on this site knows this team is stocked with centers. We have no legit scoring wingers.

Where did you see any evidence last year that Lang can be effective on the wing? He looked completely out of place last season the few times he did play wing. Barring any trades, Draper will be the one playing wing.
