Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 Holliday shouldve been out, however, I am definitely not in favor of any replay system in regards to what goes on for calls at the bases. You have umpires standing right there a few feet away...if they blow the call, so be it. The league can down on ump by not giving him important games. Its no different than a football ref who makes mistake penalty calls. I would be in favor though of replay with regards to homerun balls. In this case you're entrusting the view of guys standing near the infield to see if a ball at live speed hits a yellow line on the fence or not. Thats pretty ridiculous. timothy1997 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 for those that wanted a "Barry Bonds to Detroit" article. I didn't find the one I was looking for several weeks ago but 2 came out this week. Sharp says Tigers should add Bonds for 08 Leyland says don't count on Bonds for 08 Back to the subject of instant replay, let's assume that they have the replay option. Would they have even overturned the calls on the field? Both plays are debatable and IMO wouldn't be overturned anyway.

As for the replay, I think its pretty cut and dry that Holliday didnt touch the plate. But like i said that doesnt really matter to me, I still dont want replay for the base calls. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 The problem I have with instant replay is this: It would cut down significantly on the amount of hilarious manager tantrums. There are few spectacles more entertaining in sports than a crotchety old gray-haired guy coming raging out of the dugout screaming at a huge fat guy made even bigger by a chest protector. Watching the umpire and manager bawl each other out, followed by the inevitable emphatic rear-back-and-give-the-old-heave-ho from the umpire is always a treat. There's nothing like a good old fashioned ejection to get the crowd and the team fired up. Jim Leyland, among his myriad other admirable traits, is quite good at this. rwfan007 18 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) so apparently Andruw Jones is not going to be re-signed by Atlanta. He is only 30 and has won a ton of Gold Gloves. He can also be slated to hit 25 homers and knock in 90 runs. What does everyone think about him for our LF? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3046705 Edited October 3, 2007 by rwfan007

The game takes long enough as it is. I lucked out and got tix to the NL wild card play in. I was sitting first level on the third base line and I still couldn't see the play clearly. The umps blew the home run non-call earlier in the game too. Guess you got to live with it as baseball fans. As sorry as I was that the Tigers blew their post-season chances, I'm really glad my new hometown Rockies got in. Fans here deserve this after putting up with their horrible ownership for years. Best ball game I've ever been to in person last night! I'm lucky to have been part of it. Go Rockies! Go Tigers in '08!

Both plays are debatable and IMO wouldn't be overturned anyway. My theory is that if they had instant replay, they'd have better camera angles The problem I have with instant replay is this: It would cut down significantly on the amount of hilarious manager tantrums. Now that is a great point! I can see the argument for not having it on the base paths (though I still want to know how the ump is supposed to make an accurate call when he's standing behind the catcher), but to review home run vs. no home run, it's a no brainer. It happens so rarely, and it makes a huge impact on the game if it's wrong.
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 3, 2007 I see no problem with a replay system. As long as it doesnt take forever. Give the Umps 1 minute to watch and discuss what actually happend. It only makes sense. Cause no matter what, Holliday never touched homeplate. And a team quite possibly got screwed out of a trip to the post-season. 1 extra minute isnt gonna hurt, if we can actually get the right call on the field. If the Tigers are going to spend tons, I'd rather see them go after ARod. Even if he'll probably be a Cub.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted October 3, 2007 They should have instant replay, but only by manager challenges, like how the NFL does it. You get two or three challenges per game, and if the challenge is wrong, you lose an out or something. And arguable home runs and calls at the plate could be reviewed without a challenge by the umpiring staff. This way, we still get the hilarious manager rampages. That's a good point - give each manager 2 per game. That way someone won't be asking for replay every pitch. I see no problem with a replay system. As long as it doesnt take forever. Might have not touched homeplate BUT the umps also called a Rockies HR a double - it bounced off of something in the stands and back in. So actually both teams got screwed once..... betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 I've always kind of dug the Rockies. Sharp uniforms and cool colors. Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2007 Has anyone mentioned yet that Pudge got his option picked up? I just hope this doesnt hinder any possible acquisitions...thats been my key problem. As long as it doesnt then im fine with it. I seen a very interesting rumor about the Tigers being interested in trading for Ibanez. This would be GREAT i think. Not only because this guy always seems to kill us going back to his KC days, but i believe he has 1 year left on his deal for only 5/6 mill. That is all we need, no use signing an outfielder to a multiple year deal when you have Maybin. This would be such a perfect fit....plays Left, hits Lefty...by all accounts is a good character guy as well. Make it happen DD! Oh as for the reason why Seattle would trade Ibanez, they have a young outfielder who they need to make room for (Adam Jones i think his name is...no not Pacman!) Would probably cost a couple good pitching prospects, but hey you gotta give to get.
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 13, 2007 This is such a sad post season for me. I have zero interest in the NL. Arizona and Colorado??? Ughhhhh. And both teams left in the AL, I HATE. I hate the Indians, and I hate the Red Sox. But since I hate Cleveland more, Im forced to root on the Red Sox. So basically, this sucks. Usually Im totally into every LCS. But this year, it's a struggle for me to keep watching.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 13, 2007 As I've said before, I like the Rockies, so I'm liking them being up 2-0. I'd have preferred the old-school matchups between perennial losers Phillies and Cubs, but the Rockies are cool, they've been in the league I think 15 years now. That's about as long as the Jays had been in when they won the Series. As for the Indians, my dislike for them is pretty mild and doesn't extend past the regular season. On the other hand I hate the Red Sox almost as much as the Yankees. So I'm definitely pulling for a Cleveland-Colorado Series.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2007 Cleveland has always been one of the secondary teams i like after the Tigers. So i'm rooting for them. Cleveland vs Colorado is what im hoping for.
