2007 Baseball Season

Cutting Monroe was a bit of a surprise. Yes, he was bad this season, but figuring he had a good season last year he might have at least been on the bench for a little while.

Didn't get to see Maybin tonight, but I'll be able to watch it later. FSN usually replays all the games late at night, which is good for me because I'm usually working when the Tigers are on.

You call up Maybin up now rather than later, because he is someone that can actually help you if you make the postseason. I'd rather him get rid of the jitters now than in September! Craig Monroe simply was not going to help this team, the loyalty for what he did last year had to end. At the very least, Maybin is guaranteed to be a great pinch runner if nothing else, if you think that means nothing, ask Boston about David Roberts! I firmly believe this is a sign that Jason Grilli is on the way out...very soon. Probably as soon as Zumaya is back. If theyre willing to do the right thing for the team and dump Monroe, theyre obviously at the point where theyll do the same to Grilli.

He definitely looked a little shaky tonight. Even while he was in left field. But hopefully that was just a little first game jitters. Personally, I would rather see Monroe out there for now. We should call Maybin back up once he developes a little more, or until he gets those stylin braces off, whichever happens first. lol

Maybin's a centerfielder though, so playing in left will be an adjustment, but i expect it to be a fast one. He does look a little weird doesnt he? First thing i thought of was Buckwheat from the Little Rascals!

I really wish Raburn was able to play shortstop. I wonder if they'd consider trying Brandon at short (a drafted SS)and Raburn at 3rd? Not talking about this season, but next. I'd like to see him get a shot at playing everyday.

I dont think we should give up on Monroe altogether. If he doesn't play the rest of this season I'd be ok with that, but if he isn't going to command as big of a salary next year, I'd be willing to give him another shot. Sometimes a guy just has a bad year, although he's getting to the age where he should be reaching his full potential, so it's really now or never time for him.

I get to watch another Tigers game today...hurray! I hope we f*** up Roger Clemens. We're gonna have to with Durbin pitching.

Well, Monroe is guaranteed to be done as a Tiger within the next 9 days. He'll either be traded, to someone like the Cubs would be my guess, or outright released. Monroe refused an assignment to Toledo, so those are the only two options left. One will happen, so he's gone. As for bringing him back next year, i dont see the point. Maybin - Granderson - Ordonez is the OF. Monroe was not going to be here next season anyway, he was a stop gap to Maybin's arrival.

And Cameron Maybin smokes one to center for his first HR! 2 for 2 in the game so far.

That was such a sweet shot! And being off Roger Clemmens, should put a huge smile on his face. This guy just might be the real deal. Im pumped to find out!

Any guesses on which Bonderman we get today?

It'd be nice to see a Tigers starting pitcher make it through the 6th inning. Of course with Bonderman anymore, you just have to pray he makes it past the first.

BTW, Polanco is out again today.

It's too bad, we could really use his bat. When Polanco comes back, I'd consider playing Raburn over Inge when we need offence. You know, like every game with our current pitching woes

Inge strikes out in a big situation in the 2nd inning. I hate to sound like such a pessimist, but we really need some guys to step their games up or we mind as well forget about the postseason.

Make that the 4th inning as well. Inge is single handedly killing us right now!

Now add an error to Brandon's impressive day.

I JUST turned the game on in the 3rd. I guess thats what I get for sleeping in till 2pm, lol. With it only being a 1 run game, I expect Bondo to get the job done.

It's times like these that make being a baseball fan so hard. We have so much talent on this team, yet because of injuries or guys slumping we are literally one of the worst teams in baseball since the all star break.

It's hard to figure this game out sometimes.

Ughh ... This team is so frustrating to watch. That spark from last season is completely gone.

As good as the offense is, the pitching makes up for it and then some by being so pathetic. Even if the Tigers somehow make the playoffs, they are going nowhere if the pitching continues like it is now. The Indians, Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels all have far superior pitching to the Tigers at this point.

By the way, Brandon Inge is a complete waste at the plate. Honestly, he has the same numbers as Monroe, plus about 2000 strikeouts to boot. I don't understand why Inge gets a free pass constantly for his horrid batting. All Inge does is strikeout, and always leave runners stranded in scoring position. Sounds like someone the Tigers just released. I can't believe our number nine hitter can't lay down a lousy sacrifice bunt. Brandon Inge is like Tayshaun Prince to me - I can't figure out what all the hype is about. Maybe I'm supposed to overlook the strikeout every at bat, because of his spectacular glove.

Well despite all my gloom, I'm holding out hope that a turn around is near, although I've been waiting for over a month now. Maybe getting Zoom and Pauly back will bring that spark to the team. This homestand is literally the season. We're going to see which Tigers team this really is. Please beat the Indians and Yankees!

Ahh, so out come the pessimists. And I thought I was the only one. :P

These games are too damn critical to be losing. The Yankees are fighting hard for the wildcard spot also, and we can't be losing games. While I'm more concerned about Cleveland, the Yankees are also a huge problem.

Cleveland is on a 3 game winning streak right now. While they aren't miles ahead in the AL central, they still got a jump on us, and unless this losing stops, we'll have to rely on the wildcard spot.

In our current position, we are 2 1/2 games back of a wildcard spot, behind both Seattle and New York. That makes the New York series even more critical: if we can't catch Cleveland and start dropping all these games to New York, we'll be on the outside as far as the wildcard spot goes also.

Ugh. I'm getting tired of this. This team has too much talent. We shouldn't be losing games like this.

As dismal as the Tigers have been, we're still in a tight and very winnable race for the division. It's about time to win a series. This could be it: lost the series to Cleveland, I'm not sure this team can come back from several games behind. Our only dependable starter is Verlander. Our only hope with pitching is for Rogers to come back and win some games. JL continues to play Grilli - baffling - I could see playing him if we were already behind by 10 runs, but why in a tight game - that's basically tossing the game right there.

Oh well, the home series with Cleveland will tell all - I'm not giving up - but it's the way the Tigers don't really compete alot of games that is disheartening....

Zumaya activated, Lopez sent down.

The good news for you, Raburn is being moved to third and Inge is sitting.

I'm glad Zumaya's back, but realistically he can't help us unless the starters do their job. If we are going to get back on track, we need better starting pitching!

Leyland needs to pull Chuck Hernandez and the starter pitchers together and tell them to throw strikes and challenge hitters or else. If they hit you, then they hit you, but we're getting KILLED by walks and high pitch counts. If I had a dollar for every walk that ended up scoring lately, I could probably put a nice down payment on a house. Also, we can't expect the bullpen to go 4 or 5 innings every night and still be effective. This 100 to 120 pitches in 5 or 6 innings has got to stop!

If we don't make the playoffs, Chuck Hernandez should be immediately fired! Nobody has done less with more, and I'm including Craig Monroe in that group.

The reason Inge gets a pass over Monroe is because he's a 3B. Monroe is a left fielder, where Thames, Raburn, and Maybin all can play and outperform Craig. Thames would be the only guy who would be a defensive dropoff, but its not that big a deal. Inge on the other hand, plays good defense in a position where we really have nobody else to play. Not on the big league club or in the minors. Hessman? Hannahan? Thats no improvement, nor is Infante. I do like the decision of trying out Raburn at 3rd, as i brought up a couple days ago, but i wouldnt expect him to play without Santiago at SS at least for the first few games. If he can he play decent defensively there, then im definitely all for him taking the job. But we'll have to see as he's been primarily a 2nd baseman and outfielder.

Rumor has it that Omar Vizquel recently was claimed by somebody, but a deal was unable to be reached and he was pulled off waivers by the Giants. That rumored team was said to be the Tigers or Indians,..which in the Indians case, wouldve just been to block the Tigers from getting him. This couldve went down when the Tigers were a half game up...which wouldve given Cleveland first crack. Just thought it was something interesting to bring up. I dont know if its been mentioned yet, but Jack Wilson cleared waivers a while back. So thats still in the cards..

Yes that is extremely good news. I am honestly thrilled Inge is getting benched. Having Inge's defense really doesn't mean much when the pitching is giving up ten runs each game. Raburn's offense will be more of an asset than Inge's five strikeouts, and solid defense at this point.

Monroe gone, Inge benched, Zumaya back - now all we need are some wins, and any form of starting pitching. I feel something positive is going to happen with this team starting Tuesday night.
