Zeta Power 40 1 Report post Posted February 28, 2007 ARIZONA REPUBLIC: David Vest reports Phoenix Coyotes forward Owen Nolan could've been dealt to the Detroit Red Wings yesterday but turned the deal down. He doesn't have a no trade clause but the Coyotes asked his approval anyway. Spector's Note: As TSN's Darren Pang observed yesterday, Nolan's wife is pregnant and neither he or the team wanted any undue stress on his family. The Wings obviously made an offer and the Coyotes out of courtesy asked Nolan if he was interested.

I doubt they would have been able to get both Nolan and Bert here. The Wings have to be right at the cap or damn close.
JeeSpot82 10 Report post Posted February 28, 2007 I read that blurb this morning, and was surprised no one had posted it on LGW yet. I get to the office and here it is. It's interesting to think that the Wings brass put together that package of conditions for Bertuzzi AFTER Nolan rejected the trade. It seems like a lot of work went into selecting conditions and draft picks that would go to Florida, so I have to believe that both trade possibilities were going on simultaneously. Wonder who the Wings offered the Coyotes...

Turretin 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2007 These stories (most of which you do not hear about) are what make all of this "internet general managing" so infuriating to listen to. The reality is no one here has the slightest clue what Holland, Nill, Bowman, Yzerman and Illitch are dealing with.

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted February 28, 2007 That's totally understandable. Family comes first, especially with a pregnant wife. No hard feelings, and I'm happier with Bert anyway.

wingsfan75 2 Report post Posted February 28, 2007 (edited) Panger was saying yesterday that the Nolan family went through some tough times last season. Maybe they lost a baby last year or something. I don't blame the guy one bit for taking the family first stance. Edited February 28, 2007 by wingsfan75

The reality is no one here has the slightest clue what Holland, Nill, Bowman, Yzerman and Illitch are dealing with. Wait, you mean Holland can't just control any trade that the Wings may want??? Forcing other teams to make lopsided deals with the Wings, forcing players to come to Detroit... But that's how it works on my Playstation!

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 28, 2007 (edited) Pretty classy of the 'Yotes to consult with Owen before deciding to move him. They know he's going to leave for nothing at year's end, but they did the right thing by adhering to his wishes and not stressing those guys out. The reality is no one here has the slightest clue what Holland, Nill, Bowman, Yzerman and Illitch are dealing with. That's why they should have an ESPN special that gives viewers a glimpse of what goes on inside all the NHL war-rooms during trade deadline day. They did a bit of that on 'The Season' a few years back for Detroit but they should do it for all the teams. Ehh cant blame the guy for thinking about his family first. Amen to that. Although the Coyotes are not the classiest organization (which IMO comes from their coach) they did the right thing here. They put family above team and above sport. Not too many organizations can do that. Good for them.
