...balls! He was showing clips of Stevie going down sideways to block shots. Bad knee and all. He then brings up a shot of Dats standing upright to block a shot with one hand covering his face and the other his jewels (more or less). Grapes said he didn't know why he was covering up 'cuz there's nothing there to cover'! Classic.

Course he also said our PP was great so he musta been into the Molson a tad early today.

Did anyone else see what this looney old man said about Datsyuk during Coaches Corner? He showed footage of Stevie diving in the way of shots, saying how that's the way it should be (no argument here)...but then he shows a shot of Datsyuk squaring up to a shooter covering his face with one glove and his junk with the other..then made a remark about how there's nothing down there to protect anyway...MacLean then went on to say something about Datsyuk being scared of "a boy named Susan" and they whined about his new contract. Funny how they didn't mention anything about having 2 pts in game 1.

Ya i saw that, i got a lil mad when Cherry said that but its just Cherry. But our PP was good for one game. All this year it seemd to do that, one good game or two then bad the next 3-4, etc. Hopefyulyl we can keep it up as that will help us control the flow of the game and shut down the other team.

Funny, this coming from a guy who only played 1 NHL game in his career. I'll bet he didn't block any shots in his career either.

I'm starting to find Grapes to be exteremly annoying as of late. All he does is go out of his way to criticize the Wings. It's become especially apparent after Yzerman retired. I've began to watch him only to get a good laugh about how biased he is about canadians.

I wouldn't put too much stock into what Cherry says. Sometimes he is right on the money and other times he just needlessly rants.

Blocking shots is one of those things that he is always dwelling on. Typically he comments on how some players are bad at blocking shot and put themselves in danger. Either standing up and putting their hands down near the ice, leaving their wrists exposed. Or players sliding on the ice and not looking the other way and exposing their face.

Being Canadian, there are times when his patriotism is nice, but yeah, it gets very wearing why he talks baout us as the only talented players with heart. His arguement for Staal to get rookie of the year over Malkin nearly killed me.

Datsyuk doesnt block shots , Not because hes russian (which is what Dons getting at) but because hes a skill guy.

Still , I wish we had someone blocking shots.

An dthe clips he showed were Yzerman blocking shots when we were up 6-0 agaisnt the avs. Stevie was probably the only guy to do stuff like that

That's Don Cherry for ya....fact is, Russians almost NEVER drop to the ice to block a shot, it's their instinct to stay upright because that's how they're taught to do it in Russia. That way you screen the goalie less and if you do block the shot you're in perfect position to chase it down for a potential breakaway. Just a little cultural difference.

And even Canadian soccer players cover up the "zone" when forming the wall. Like I said though....just Cherry being Cherry. With him at least you know what you're getting.

I don't think i'll ever understand what he's got against Euro's , I mean sure there's alot of skilled players from europe but there's been a few tough guy's too. Do you guy's think he just use's this to stir up a bit of controversy or is old Don too stupid to do something like that ?
