Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 In the Rangers 2-1 win yesterday Avery played 21:18, had a goal and an assist and was +1. He played 4 minutes on the PP and 3:02 on the PK. Since when has Avery been such a good defensive player than he spends 3 minutes on the PK, and in a playoff game to boot? He also had 9 SOG and won 12 of his 18 faceoffs. So it was a brilliant all-round game from Sean. What a performance, and what a time to deliver the goods. Hasn’t he taken off in New York?
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted April 15, 2007 Stupid comments aside, no one can say Avery hasent matured as a player at least.

edicius 3,269 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 Avery has definitely matured. I think he's becoming the player he'll be for the rest of his career.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 He's always had the abilities, they were just overshadowed by the other garbage. Seems like he's getting it together in New York.
redwingsfan19 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 I agree with Herald, the abilities have always been there, in Detroit he never got to play enough minutes to really show what he could do. With his increased ice time he has become a better player and a more mature one.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 I've very proud of Aves. He's toned it down big time, and has matured which in return has progressed his game big time. He's makes a difference, believe it. He's a heck of a hockey player when he's not doing the BS he use to do. Atta boy Aves. Keep it up!
Zetter is Better 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 I guess when he played in LA he felt they had no chance to do anything. Then a change of scenery caused him to focus and gave him a shot at the cup. Now hes playing with very skilled players and he has people like Shanny and Jagr to tell him to tone it down. He was also LA's enforcer but now Orr and sometimes Shanny and others are not afraid to fight, giving him more of a chance to show off some skill.
reyalp 4 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 The goal he scored was prolly one of the luckiest playoff goals I have ever seen.
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 He's playing the same way he played in LA all year, just nobody noticed. Now he's on the grand stage in NY and everyone can now see for themselves. esteef

Cicada 4 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 Avery was a small part of that. (See Lundqvist) most ranger fans think avery was a major part of it
johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 It was also pretty funny banter between him and Hull during the 1st intermission on NBC. He will always be one of those players you love to hate and wonder what he's going to say next.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 It helped him getting out of LA. He was on a very short leash. Just listening to him in the intermission in the Wings-Flames game just shows how much scrutiny he received in LA. He's definitly turned it around in New York. Watching him play now almost makes me wish we hadn't gotten rid of him. I'm serious here too, since when he's not in the box he can be a pretty good offensive player. C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Who did the Wings get for Avery? I forgot. I didn't like the trade then, and I still don't. How do you know if you like the trade or not unless you know both sides of it? Glad to see him doing well, I always thought his rep wasn't entirely deserved. Yeah, he'll spout off every now and then, but I'm not French-Canadian, so that doesn't bother me that much. He's one of the more skilled sandpaper-types out there, and him and Shanny make the Rangers my #2 Eastern Conference team right now after the Pens.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Who did the Wings get for Avery? I forgot. I didn't like the trade then, and I still don't. Look at it this way: In that trade, we finally got rid of Max Kuznetsov. There, better now?
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Good for Avery. I never liked him with his yapper and controversial b.s. that he spouted off, I'm more of a guy that just wants to do your job and go about your business quietly doing it. I don't like drama and causing unnecessary distractions. That being said, at least for now, he finally looks like he has started to ductape his mouth shut and just focus on his play on the ice. Hopefully he can continue this.
