I would never want to touch it. The only way I would is if I was a part of an organization which won it in the playoffs.

I see what you are saying, but I know I won't be in on of those, and if there was a chance that I would, I would then retract my previous statement.

Sorry for the odd sentance structure...but I think you get the point.

I agree. I had my picture taken with the Cup in 97 before the Wings won it. The closer I got to it, the more in awe I was. I just couldn't bring myself to touch it.

This must be the difference in a Red Wings fan and a Ducks fan. For the ducks the season ends in June. For the Red Wings fan hockey season is year round it just has stages...Training Camp season, preseason, regular season, PLAYOFFS!!!, who's coming back season, draft season, and free agency season!

And the makes Red Wings fans oh so perfect? Duck fans are just downright not dedicated and terrible then? Come on now, different teams, different fans bases. Just b/c the Wings are an O-6 team and have a great tradition doesn't make us any better/worse than Duck fans.

is that your boyfriend smoking the cigar beside you?/

Way to show some class and maturity there.

I'm either super jealous or in utter awe. I can't decide. It may be a combination of both. I'm excited for you. Not that it matters to you either way, but you're a respectful poster and fan of the game so I'm glad you got to experience the excitement of your team winning the Cup. Phenomenal, isn't it?

Here's what Clark thinks about

.

I am not in the NHL and have never won the Cup, therefore I will never touch it. I have the utmost respect for it, and hold the tradition that almost all the players do.

My brother and I also got a picture with it in '97 and we just touched our fingers to it ever so slightly... it was a thrill. They were telling people to back off of it right before we got up to it. Some people had their grubby paws all over the thing.

Congrats on the win and that cool pic... blow that thing up and frame it for display somewhere in the house!

Ahoy, that is a 'ery awesome that you got t' lift the cup. The closest Me got was bein' able t' just about kiss it when i was younger at the hockey hall o' fame. What was cool about that time is that the Red Win's war in Toront' for a game and in honor o' them they brought the actual cup that ste'ie lifted on ice in 1997. It was mightily special t' be that close t' That cup.

I appreciate you gettin' our cup ready for us t' steal it. Me and my mates be just off the coast waitin' for the correct time. Gar.

After everything that Mug has been through (using it to hold bait for fishing, babies peeing in it, Pprroo... That Eejit kissing it), a few fans' grubby paws doesn't bother me in the least. I do understand and respect those who feel a proper reverence for the Cup, however.

Roberto, congrats on the win and oh-you-lucky-Duck, your piccy is very special. Enjoy this time with it and your fav team.

I think I would definitely take the opportunity if it came to touch, lift, and kiss the cup. I can see your point that we did not win it but I disagree. I believe as fans we are an extension of the team. Some of us are die hard and live by this sport and our team. Without us to watch then there probably would not be an NHL and the idea behind all sports is the fans. So in that I believe when Detroit brings Lord Stanley back home next year we would all have the right to lift him.

Congrats to your team, RW. I hope you enjoy this short lived experiance!:lol:

And the makes Red Wings fans oh so perfect? Quit acting like a snobby elitist.

Why don't you back off. He's just ribbing him a little in good fun. Its not like he's on a pulpit breathing down fire and brimstone b/c we follow the Wings year round. Ever heard of a joke. Chill the F out already.

And by the way, are you a snobby elitist because you tell the truth? Quit telling everybody how to act.

Nope, I’m not backing off of this one. Yes I have heard a joke before, and this looked like a bad attempt at one. I apologize if I offended the poster or anybody else by calling him/her a snob, that I will retract, but my overall view on this stands.

The ranting and whining towards the Ducks, a lot of their fans who posted in here during the series, the referees, and towards the NHL immediately after the WCF and during/after the SCF by fans in here was beyond ridiculous at times, not to mention making fun or looking down at the Ducks fan base (save the how small it might be jokes).

I think we need to take a good look in the mirror at ourselves and do a better job of showing class and respect towards other fans in here and quit showing over-the-top bitterness or the “we are so better than you and will always be better than you†mentality just because the Wings are more established and have more history to refer back on.

Were all of us in here like this? Of course not, but I was severely disappointed in the way a lot of us acted in here during the conference finals and Stanley Cup Finals and how bad we treated Duck fans overall.

I can agree with that. Some people are malicious about it though and some aren't and context needs to be kept in mind.

As for the whining, yeah, you could say the best team didnt win the series. It isn't like that has never been said before in all sports. But all the Ducks had to do was be better than us and frankly, they won, we didn't, they were better.

Other than a handful of crappy calls I thought the officiating was fine. People complaining about Datsyuk's interference call that cost us game 5 are just bitter. He held the guy up in open ice, nowhere near the puck, on the backcheck staring right down at the referee. That's such an easy call and I for one can't believe Dats took that penalty.

However, this is pretty much a great board and as far as being friendly to other fans I think this board does it better than any of the others I went to this year. Always some though that are just bitter and pissed off.
