The Official: 2007 Detroit Lions Season Thread

Now we have a regular season thread.

Only a few minutes left in the 1st quarter. The Lions drive down the field, like men on a mission. They get a 1st in goal. And in typical Lions fashion, they turn the ball over. In the end-zone no less. I refuse to ever get my hopes up until I actually start seeing something out there. Besides typical Lions football. Kitna sucks soooo bad. Better than Joey, but wow, Kitna sure does suck a big one.

Bad play by Roy. But since he got into the end-zone today, I'll let that go. Calvin is looking great. Thank God for our MVP Jason Hanson though. I just wish we could get a bad ass QB to help utilize all these offensive weapons. Maybe Stanton will end up being that guy in a few years.

Wow, im actually shocked. 36-21 victory. Pretty damn nice. Our D looked solid, our offense looked crisp. Everything looked great actually. But lets all keep this fact in mind...It was against the Raiders. lol

Kitna played great, I dont know what else anyone could want from him. 1 bad interception that was his fault, but more than made up for it with 3 TD's, and nearly 300 yards passing. Also was very efficient and led his team down the field when we gave up the lead. He didnt make any really great throws, but he didnt have to. Thats why you have all these weapons under the Martz system, somebody will always have a mismatch and get open.

As for the defense, up front we looked real good. However, it wont be till week 3 when the secondary is put to the test. Tarvaris Jackson is probably the worst starting QB in the league right now, stop the run and you beat them. I'd be stunned if we dont start out 2-0. After that though, things could get a little bumpy. I believe we can beat Chicago at home, but we wont win in Philly nor in Washington where we ALWAYS lose. Doesnt matter how the 'Skins look. 3-2 after 5 games though...hey i'll take it.

Lions looked pretty good today, but Im still skeptical. I think we will need more of a running game if we want to keep this up. Anyone know when Kevin Jones will be back?

This sunday's game against the Vikings is huge. I really think that if we can establish the run and hold the Vikings to under 20 pts in this game, against a divison opponent...then we can compete with the divison. This divison is not that good and like i said earlier in threads..I really think the lions can win 7-8 games and be in 2nd in divison.

Chicago lost to a good San Diego team. Bears dominated LT most of the game tho which was impressive.

Green Bay squeeked by Philly, despite only having #4 on offense. Packers get someone to help #4 on offense, then the Packers are gonna be tough.

Minnesota had an impressive rookie performance from Peterson but that was also against the Falcons. Atlanta is going to be one of the worst teams this year. Wonder how Michigan fans would feel seeing Chad Henne in a Falcons jersey next year. Scary huh?

I can't actually believe the Lions have a winning record - and they're better than the Bears too, no less.

Better clip the standings from the paper this morning and put 'em in a scrapbook, because I don't know if we'll ever see that again.

in 2004, the Lions won their first game...on the road in Chicago. They went on to beat Houston the next week to start 2-0.....all went downhill from there as the Lions finished 6-10.

Could we be seeing the same type of start this year? Perhaps.

Actually, I expected the Lions to win this one and have slightly positive expectations for the season (maybe 6, even 7 wins and one of the best offenses in the league). I was a bit confused as to how the Lions were not just underdogs to Oakland (who, frankly, sucks in every way it is possible to suck), but that the pre-game guys on Fox had the audacity to pick Detroit as their big "upset special".

It seems like we always manage to beat somebody up pretty good on the first game.

I don't expect much from the Lions, though Johnson really impressed me last night. I'm not ready to drink the Kool-Aid yet, but if Johnson keeps it up, and the rest of the team doesn't suck, then we might have an actual shot at the playoffs this season.

Playoffs?! You want to talk about PLAYOFFS?!

Hey, I said a chance. I should have specified by that I meant a very very very very very very very very very very small chance. :P

As I said: I'm not jumping on the Lions bandwagon yet. They did go 2-0 a few years ago, and then didn't win a game for like 6 weeks or something.

Anything is possible. Who would have thought the Tigers would have turned things around so drastically last summer after 19 straight years of futility and playoff no-shows?

I think he was just referencing Jim Mora's notorious post game explosion about 5-6 years back. That was absolutely hilarious! PLAYOFFS??!!

I remember some guy on Cold Pizza (that crappy ESPN morning show) predicting that the Tigers would win the wild card, in March, right before they went on to do just that. The other guests just called him insane, if I remember correctly.

D-Line looked good!! If the Lions defensive line can stay health (Edwards, Rodgers, Redding,White), then I think this could be a very big year. I think that the d-line can make-up for our deficiencies in the defensive back field.

Good news: The Raiders had the best pass defense in the league last year and Kitna shredded it.

Bad news: The Raiders offense is garbage, and the defense gave up three touchdowns.

I really like the matchup this week against Minny, though. The Vikings' offense is no great shakes and their real weak point is pass defense. Oh goody. But the Lions won't make believers out of anyone unless they show up to play in Philly next week.
