You ain't lying. The man is amazing. Him and Dats tonight were just..WOW. I don't even know how to word it. lol

Great to see Homer get another one. He's on fire.

Cheli's goal was freaking awesome, but my goodness Sammy's goal was pure beauty. Loved it!

Tonight's Attendance: 16,913

I believe that number is down about 900 from opening night. I know I yelled at people earlier for bringing this up, but I thought it might be interesting.

ARARAGH!!!

Well, it was a good bounce back win from the letdown 2 nights ago, and here's what I took out of this game.

1. I thought the Hudler-Fillpulla-Sammy line was pretty good tonight. It'll be interesting to see if they can develop more chemistry, because it's obvious that Hank and Pavel will be playing together. It's just not something that Babcock can resist considering how crisp they are together.

2. Our backchecking is still lazy. Both goals tonight came off of plays where no one picked up the man coming off the puck. Not to mention, it was Cleary and Drapes who made those mistakes, both of whom are great defensive forwards. Go figure.

3. What's up with Drake tonight? I thought he was going to drop the gloves every night. Well, we'll probably have to wait for January to see another fight.

4. Why not dress Downey if you're not going to play Kopecky or Ellis anyway? I'm glad Babcock doesn't have enough faith to give either of those guys much icetime, but why not put it somewhere more useful.

5. Say what you want about Lang and Bertuzzi being lazy, they still gave us more of a scoring threat on the 2nd line than what we have now.

6. Lilja looked solid tonight. There I said it, and with that I'll close.

I can see Downey being in the line up for the Flames game. Ellis did well when out there but for his 3.11min I would have Downey in.I mean lets be honest that is less than what Norton was getting last year. Yes I realise that Matt is covering for a top 6 guy on the 4th line but I would expect him to play more than he did.If he is only going to be getting enforcer type minutes then I say leave him in the com-box and get a guy who can play the role, ie Downey. Babs has only been giving Kopecky 5.20min ave ice so far, whereas his line mates Drake and Malts

have been nearer 10mins. Will be interesting to see the time they get against the Flames and Hawks. We will have a clearer picture on what Babs has in mind by the weekend I'm sure.

And the pubs were all full... not sure what your point is... nothing spells missing a game at the joe then a long monday at work...

I dunno... i think its time we drop all the attendance posts... Mr. Moneybags is NOT going broke people... there will STILL be hockey in michigan for years to come!

Let's not forget it's a Monday night. Not a very popular day to go to sporting events and such. People have work.

excuses, excuses. that hasn't been a problem the last 11 years.

nice to see us dismantle the oilers. good effort. some poor meltdowns, a couple key ones by lidstrom of all people, but those will get ironed out. good game. z is lighting it up. i don't want him to score too much the next two years or we aren't going to be able to afford him!

well in the past people could skip work.. unfortuantly skipping an hour puts me behind in michigan. Just can't afford to miss ANY time at work.

Not to mention i have other things going on that i would not be able to do while at the joe ;)

it just kinda sucks. 10 years of sellouts is a point of pride for wings fans, or should be. we've had such a dramatic shift the last few years (even though they've been sold out there have been tons of empty seats), it kinda sucks. it's ruining our rep, man!

I never said I couldn't take a vacation... just couldn't skip work..i am saving my time off for you. Its slightly off center ice also.

You'd think that Illitch would have gotten the message at opening night when 17,000 were sold....now less? You'd think he'd lower prices faster then Bettman would put a new NHL team in Vegas if they asked him to.

Thats has to tell just how much Mr. Monegybags was is still actually racking in then doesn't it? Trust me peeps... Moneybags is not going under anytime soon.

Man-love status reaching critical levels for Holmstrom, Zetterberg, and Chelios. If I had even 1/4 of Chelios's body, I'd just look in the mirror the whole day.

I'd help you look at yourself, SWF! :yowza:

No love for Sammy? ;)

Oh well, still a decent number if you ask me. You can't sell out all the time.

Went to the game last night (literally walked up to the willcall window and got 2 $22 tickets - I LOVE FAIR WEATHER FANS!!! ;))

Anyway, the game was great, but the puck bounced so much it was like they were working with a rubber ball out there. I guess the 100 degree heat has something to do with it.

Anyway, a couple of observations:

1. Datsyuk and Zetterberg need to learn when it's appropriate to shoot and when to pass. On several occasions both had glorious chances to score but elected to dish instead of shoot.

2. Zetterberg should have gotten 5 points (I have him in my pool so I expect more from him ;)). He made some sick plays and was easily the best Wing last night.

3. Lidstrom made 2 mistakes. Has hell frozen over?

4. Sammy is the only guy that seems to know when he should shoot. And he actually hit the net more than he missed. But he still makes bad decisions at times and is really a good 3rd line player forced to play on the top 2 lines because of lack of scoring.

5. Draper is horrible. There is no way on this planet this guy should be anywhere near a scoring line. He has NO hands and ZERO offensive instincts. Put him on the 4th line immediately.

6. Hasek still look solid.

All in all, it was a fun game to watch and I felt that we really took the play to the OIlers. Edmonton only had a handful of decent chances as we controlled the play most of the night.

But if Raffi Torres actually had any kind of hands, the game could have gone the Oilers way. He had at least 3 quality scoring chances, but failed to score on all of them.

Also, we watched the warm-ups and I was forced to observe the Edmonton half because the buddy I went with is a big Oiles fan.

There are some things that grown men shouldn't do:

1. Wear a jersey of a team that isn't even in the game. And have a name on that jersey of a player that isn't even with that team anymore. Some stoner had a Lindros Leafs jersey. I think the next time I go watch the Wings and Blackhawks I'll put on a Jeremey Roenick Coyotes jersey.

2. Grown men should not act like 10-year old star struck girls. There was one dude who had a 'Samsanov' Oilers t-shirt that would wave or give the 'black power sign' each time one of the Oilers players skated by him and made eye-contact. He had this dumb-ass grin on his face that made my buddy and I howl. I'm a big homer myself but I'm not going to watch the Wings warm up with a *** smile and wave everytime one of them notices me. If I was a player I'd be seriously creeped out.

This was bugging me the whole game and maybe i'm the only one that thinks this.

The Oilers jerseys look like practice jerseys. They are so plain and stupid looking. It made me start to look at some of the other jerseys and to me alot of the new road jersey seem like practice jerseys. They are very simple, almost too simple. I think it is because they don't have any kind of stripe on the bottom but who knows for sure. It drove me crazy all game long.
