GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted October 13, 2007 As I've said before, I was happy when he left, but when we made no effort to sign any top 6 forwards in the offseason, I became worried about not bringing him or Bertuzzi back. Well, I guess someone else will have to score big goals for us in the playoffs.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted October 13, 2007 For $4m per year, and with his attitude? No, I'm not sorry to see him go. He might score a couple of goals against us, but that doesn't mean much to me.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 I hope we don't play the Blackhawks in the 1st round of the playoffs. For that to happen, the Hawks would have to make the playoffs though.

kylee 727 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 (edited) I hope we don't play the Blackhawks in the 1st round of the playoffs. i was seriously thinking about that this afternoon. hey, id like them to meet in the play-offs, but in the 1st round, that would just scream of another red wings early round exit. look at the board after a few tough luck loses to chicago (and no, chicago is not the worst franchise in sports, that title belongs to our lions) just imagine the wings get burned in the play-offs by that team. also: langer got another goal and assist in chicago's game tonight against dallas. and he scored the tying goal with 1.5 seconds left in the game. He's the Joe Montana of the NHL right now when it comes to clutch. The Hawks should just keep him on the ice the entire 3rd period. He'd stand in one spot for 19 minutes, and during the last minute he'd score a big goal when they need it.
Avalanche Warning 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 He's playing like he played in 04' with the Caps. I don't know why but he never looked comfortable playing in Detroit.
Guest Blackhawkdown Report post Posted October 14, 2007 (edited) Lang scored the game tying goal with 1.5 seconds left in the third period for us to send it into overtime where we eventually won the game tonight against Dallas. I heard a lot of negative things about Lang when we signed him, but so far he has been pretty solid. Edited October 14, 2007 by Blackhawkdown
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 (edited) No, I don't regret the Wings getting rid of him. He never fit well here, and his play had gone downhill each season. But if the Wings are gonna lose to Chicago, I'm glad it's at the hands of Robert Lang. To shut up all the idiots here who made it sound like he didn't even deserve to play beer league hockey. Pretty much the exact way I feel. You take the good with the bad with him. He's never played an in-your-face/grinding-type game, but he quietly produces every now and then. The Lang ripping in here was ridiculously over the top at times. I wouldn't have minded the Wings bringing Lang back, but it didn't kill me that he left either. I highly doubt he would've gotten as much ice time here this season as he probably will with the Hawks this year. I'm happy that he's kicking butt for the Blackhawks so far, but it's only a week or two into the season? Didn't Jason Williams net 2 against the Wings in his first game as a Blackhawk? Then he disappeared for most of last season... Ask me near the end of the regular season if Lang continues to produce whether I miss him or not. It's too early to fairly judge. Spinner 6 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 It makes me wonder how everyone feels about Lang now. I was glad when we got Lang but his production with Detroit wasn't very good. He just didn't seem to fit with the Wings. I wish him well in his career but I don't miss him.
wingnut40 176 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 I am a Lang fan also and was very sad to see him go, but I agree with most people that he just wasn't a good fit in Detroit. Hopefully he'll have a good season in Chicago! That's exactly what I think. I didn;t want him to go, but he wasn't all that great for the team. He was great when it came to clinchers. I still can't believe 33.4 sec left I'm SO happy that he has an A with the Blackhawks!! Maybe he'll be captain. Right nioe he's leading his team in points and goals. 5 points, 3 goals, 2 assists. I hope he scores all the goals he can, just not against us. I hope we don't play the Blackhawks in the 1st round of the playoffs. That would suck for 2 reasons. 1. If we keep lossing to them we'll bow out early. 2. If we do lose to them, It'd be so embarrassing!
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 hes good, hes always been good. he was one of our points leaders last year and came through in the clutch in the playoffs...you know how many goals he has this yr, 2, both against detroit i hope he has a good season in chicago because i like the guy and i want him to play to his potential...but i am not regretting getting rid of him
96Homer 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 While I agree with a lot of you posters, I to hope if the blackhawks do make the playoffs, we don't meet them in the first round. I do however think they a have very good team this year finally. Maybe they can climb their way out of the sellar and be a contender. Imagine an orginal six matchup in the playoffs, that would be wild I think. But of course we would have to win
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 3 goals and 2 assists in 5 games. Not bad. As uninspired as he was out there a lot of times, Lang was still a more legit 2nd line center than anyone we've got right now (with Dats on Z on the 1st line). While I agree with a lot of you posters, I to hope if the blackhawks do make the playoffs, we don't meet them in the first round. I do however think they a have very good team this year finally. Maybe they can climb their way out of the sellar and be a contender. Imagine an orginal six matchup in the playoffs, that would be wild I think. But of course we would have to win It would be nice to have the Hawks be a good team again and renew that rivalry. The league could use some of that.
sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 ok with havlat out, who else is gonna score goals for the hawks? if bobert doesn't they lose. more often than not. put a mediocre/good player on a team of superstars and he's gonna look like s*** (case in point, his stint with the wings). put him on gordon bombays ducks and he looks like gretzky on the 84 oilers (case in point bobby on the hawks). he's going to get fed the puck like its going out of style and is going to have more opportunities than he ever did here. its just the way things go. HELLLL no i dont want him back. look for the wings to win the season series 5-3. no kidding. i think they will win 5 of the next six against chi town after dropping those two early... haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 Agree with both comments above; Lang has always had the talent to be a very solid #2 center on any team in the NHL - just his attitude/effort was poor to say the least. As for the Blackhawks "resurgence"; yeah it'd be nice to renew the old rivalry, but as they say - be careful of what ya wish for yeah, as stressful as it might make the regular season, I think having more competition in the regular season is only going to expose weaknesses and toughen the team for the playoffs. And since they're the only other original 6 team in the West, it'd be great to have both these franchises be competitive.
Offsides 21 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 I liked Lang...I still do. I didn't want to get rid of him last year. russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 I didn't read the thread at all but looked at the topic *I know I'm sorry* But 100% do not regret letting bad ass bob go. 3 of his 5 points are against us...so 2 games against Detroit 3 points (sticking it to the Babcockles...I mean man) 3 games against the rest of the league 2 points (both in one game) I am glad he is finding success because he deserves it, but he didn't fit into the system here and wasn't happy. Plus he got way too much money. I am happy to see him do well as I said before and even happier that it is for somebody else. I liked Lang...I still do. I didn't want to get rid of him last year. I miss him...he'd have been good with huds...Tis a pity...we could use some goals by him and Huds having more production playing with him. I love your avatar Offsides...I am more of a Dwight guy myself..."Dwight: Garbage can be very helpful, okay? He's a useful cat. He killed an entire family of raccoons. Look at him"
joey_corleone 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2007 (edited) Lang is in a situation now where he's the man, and he gets the ice time that he wasn't getting with the Wings. Im sure he will play harder just to stick it to Babcock. Just for that, your hamster will be sent down to the ECHL. No regrets at all. All Robert Lang did in Detroit was loaf around all the time. Quite simply, I thought he was lazy and a liability when he was on the ice. Now if we could only send Samuelson to Chicago I would be more than happy haha - Joey Edited October 14, 2007 by joey_corleone
