Really? Really,.....sometimes it's obvious some of you guys have no clue about what you're writing about.

That goal he scored, won us our first stanley cup in 52 years

42, not 52.

i'm grateful for what he did, but he's too old, too slow, and too fragile to play in the nhl now.

Oh i agree,...my point was that certain people where trying to say mac wasn't important to our squad at ANY POINT. That's simply not true.

i would like to see Mac as the new color commentator on road games. I can hear him now..." oh F#%$ that was a BullS#$T call. That ref needs his MFing A#$ kicked"

It would be great

Where is McCarty? I'm sure his creditors are asking the same question

I just pissed myself!

Really, bring Mac back for some on the ice commentary. Imagine him and Micky Redman calling a game? Hilarious!

Better yet, put him between the glass like Pierre and we'd not only have a commentator, we'd have a free enforcer. You know he'd forget himself and start something. Hey, get a cable contract for "Xtreme Hockey Commentating" and he could use all the naughty words and throw all the punches he wanted. Talk about ratings! Just put a parental advisory on it.

I love D, and I'd love to see him around in some way even if his playing days are over.

I didn't read every post in this thread, but that is just the wrong thing to say about Mac.

Isn't the selective memory about who did what and when for this team an amazing thing?

I miss Mac, and hope he's OK. He's made some bad choices, but I pray he finds his way. He won't be a Wing again, likely, but I hope he lands somewhere that's good for him.

His on-ice career is unfortunately over, I'm betting. But you never know, the WIngs have a habit of giving has-beens a renaissance, heh.

I would seriously think that if he was in need of a job, the WIngs would give him one. But yeah, he's back in Detroit, so he can be closer to his family. I don't know if he's gotten in touch with any of his old teammates or not.

Training in Calgary. Whenever I go to the gym, I think to myself "It'd be cool if Mac was here" But he never is. I really feel bad for McCarty, he shouldnt have to go through it. I know it'd never happen, but if he somehow pulled a Kocur back in 97, I'd love it. Hopefully he signs somewhere this year.

I don't mean to be harsh on your opinion, but there are a lot of things in life that people shouldn't have to go through. I loved MacCarty as a player for the Wings Heart and soul But the fact remains that every player knows their playing days are limited and they need to plan for the future. I'm sure the Red Wings front office can put players in touch with financial planners to help them plan for life after hockey. He made his own bed, now he's got to sleep in it. I love the dude but he wanted to play the leed role in "Wings gone Wild" and now he's dealing with the consequences. Yeah, I feel bad fo him, too but, c'mon, he was a fool with his money, and a fool and his money will soon be parted.

Back in the day, I liked Mac so much that I thought the Wings should let Feds go if he wants to be a bonehead about the situation, but don't let Mac go.

That goal he scored, won us our first stanley cup in 52 years

That fight he had in march of that year,...that helped too.

so did the game winning goal from that same game.

He had problems,...sure

He spent his money foolishly and probably deserves to be where he's at.

Like it or not, if you became a redwings fan after 97, you did so in no small part due to Darren McCarty.

Without him fighting Claudia there is no cup. It showed everyone we would not be initmidated

Without that goal the avs would have won that game, and the battle of the joe, would have lost all significance.

Without THAT GOAL we'd still be looking for a championship (you could argue we'd have got 02' but no way we win 98 without winning 97 first).

You don't like the guy,..cool

But his place in Red Wings lore, is right up there with all the greats who wore the winged wheel.

Gordie Howe lead us to multiple stanley cups. Let's sign him!

Paul coffey once scored 48 Goals. Let's sign him.

Stu Grimson had a 100 mph Slapper, let's sign him.

Hell, Terry Sawchuck recorded 103 Shutout, let's dig'im up and Sign him too.

Hey, I loved D-mac, I actually went to school with and grew up with his Cousin. I loved how he pummled Lemieux. But it's 2007-08, and not 1997-98. He isn't that player anymore.

Without his goal in 1997, we would have still had a 1-0 lead, up 3 games to 0 in the series. Without his goal, we might have kept the pressure on and someone else scored. Or at least kept Philly From Scoring, and won 1-0. With out his goal, the score might have been 1-1, and we win in OT. Or if we lose that game, That team would have won one of the next 3 games. WE still would have won that cup. The entire Championship did not rely on 1 goal. It was a great goal, but being game 4 of a 3-0 series, I think it's kind of an overrated goal.

Please point out to me where in my argument i said we should sign D-mac?

Quite frankly you just debated to yourself by not reading my post at all.

You're absoutly right, he's not that player anymore.

But, In 1997 he scored a goal that won us a stanley cup.

Unless your God, or the Grand wizard of OZ, you have no idea how that series would have turned out. To say otherwise is speculative, and totally impossible to prove or debate.

I think the better question is, are you serious?

Oooh I'm sorry wrong answer. The script goes as follows:

Uncle Rico: Back in '82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile.

Kip: Are you serious?

Uncle Rico: I'm dead serious.

It would be a lot easier for people to know what you were saying if the quote you mentioned was easily recognizable.

so he's working at a pawn shop now? U7Pa0.gif

at least i don't have to endure his 3-pack-a-day voice on 97.1 anymore.
