GDT 11/17: Blackhawks 5, Red Wings 3

Pre-game Preview

It's a good twelve hours til game time but I figured I'd make the thread anyway, just because I want this game to start already! The Blackhawks have suddenly become interesting this year.

But here's to hoping *crosses fingers* that Aflac comes back. If you guys have an eye out, he looks a little like this, and I believe there is an image out on milk cartons for when he unexpectedly wanders away. Keep a sharp lookout:

Fact: The Two Kids and a LazyAndSucks Lang line have owned all three GWG this season. LazyAndSucks™ also is posting the team's second spot in scoring with J Willy at 6G & 18P. So far the only Wing forwards nearing that point production are Datsyuk (17) and Holmstrom (16).

I'm not really posting that to rub it in anyone's faces (well alright, maybe a little) or to insinuate that his time here wasn't up (it was), more to simply say that he apparently doesn't quite live up to his moniker as much as half the rabid fans wanted. The proof is in the pudding folks.

That aside: Go Wings! We'll need an angry Hasek, a fighting Downey <--, and a domination mode Z tonight or unlikely heroes if we're expecting what the Hawks are bringing in '07. Let's get a f-ing win already.

-Detroit went 14-0-2 against Chicago the last two seasons, but is 0-2-1 this year, including a 3-2 road loss last Sunday to snap its franchise-tying nine-game winning streak.

-Chicago has not won four in a row over Detroit since taking five straight meetings in 1985-86.

-Two of the NHL's rising stars, Chicago's Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane have combined for two goals and four assists against Detroit this season.

If the Wings all show up and play well in front of Hasek, we will win. If they don't and there are constant PKs, 5-3s, and a dozen odd-man rushes like the last few games with him in net, we probably won't.

For the love of god Babcock put Downey in over Drake. Since when does somebody who's line is 0 -1-1 (-6) whos incapable for fighting get to play every game.

Lord I hope you're right. And as much as I love Dally, I think he should go down over Downey too. He can't fight anymore(although if he still did that would be the sickest/stupidest thing ever) and his line's not doing to hot.

You mean Lang wasn't the worst player to ever lace up a pair of skates???

Lang currently has 6 goals 12 assists and leads the team at +7. He's one of 7 players on the Hawks that even has a positive +/-. Not bad for a guy who's so lazy he never backchecks, right?

Lang has played one more game than the Wings, but as you mentioned, the only player with more points than him on Detroit is Zetterberg.

I still think it's better for the team that he's gone, but he didn't deserve half the crap he got here.

That being said, I am now a member of your board.

I am going to be taking a nice road trip to Joe Louis tonight to see my beloved Blackhawks. To be honest, I doubt we'll beat you again today, but it sure would be nice. I'll be in section 203.

I would like to post some rules as a guest in your house. Often, at the United Center, many of you Detroit fans to do not follow these rules. I intend to do nothing more than cheer when my team scores, flinch if yours scores, and flick off your Jumbotron if you have the temerity to put me on it. Or maybe I'll just hold up three fingers, and then a doughnut. (Figure it out...)

First of all, and this is the most obvious and most broken rule, don't walk into the United Center like you own the place. You don't. This is Chicago. Our home opener, Detroit fans were actually talking plenty of s*** at the end of the game and being general assholes about losing. What do you expect? If you come to Chicago, you will face resistance and hostility. Just because you have been owning us for the past decade or so, and the seats are empty, does not mean that the United Center is your domain. Actually, that is pretty much the only rule. So I will follow it at Joe Louis.

There is no need for fighting. We can all band together, can't we? (Except when we're playing each other.) We all want to see good hockey, and probably see Bettman get canned. We really aren't that different, you and I.

But I've probably ranted enough. I am a Blackhawks fan in hostile domain. I will be as respectful in your house as I think that you should be in ours.

Here's to a good game Detroit. I hope to make some good, civil conversation with some people....

PS: Keep in mind that even if you win, we are still 3-1 against you so far this year.

Hasek has a long history of coming out and standing on his head in games after he's been yanked from the net.

Hopefully that's what'll happen tonight. It'd be great to see the "old" Dom instead of the old Dom.

As along as Lids don't score we'll win. Both his markers this year have come against the Hawks!! Cheli is a healthy scratch tonight so it'll be good to keep out of the box as he is one of our key PK's. Looks like Drake has got the nod over Downey, although I would have liked to have seen a 4th line with Kops Mule and Downs. Here's to a good game

and a 4-2 win with Z getting back in the points.

Since I have received a sign of the End Times (Kronwall and Sammy are listed as "hot"), I believe we will lose.

Actually, I have been picking the Lions to lose all season in the football pool at work, and it seems to be working, so I'll do it here as well.
