BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 Because Rolston has had tons of practice at that, and is ******* good at it. Zetterberg's was weak, and he waited too long anyway. Z doesn't have a great slapshot but he was going for the surprise element. If it went in, there would be a whole separate thread dedicated to how brilliant it was. commadore183 103 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. It's great that they got the point. They come in handy down the stretch. Good, then I am on the same page as you. From a racing fan who has seen championships lost because of races when a driver could have picked up the optimum amount of points in the situation. BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 I do think the injuries to Draper, Maltby, and now Holmstrom, are catching up to the Wings a bit. Teams often play over their heads for a while after suffering key injuries, but they can't sustain it. This is where the Red Wings are at now.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 without rewinding the DVR of the game, did I hear correctly that Lilja leads the league in blocked shots with 50? I swear they said that in the game intro. I believe it. BlueMonk, I said the same thing today to my friend in Atlanta, had a feeling the MIA players were going to make a big hole in the team effort. Too bad it happened tonight, but it was not unexpected in a way.

Teams often play over their heads for a while after suffering key injuries, but they can't sustain it. This is where the Red Wings are at now. Ah, good point. Without Homer being abused near the net, it would make it a bit more difficult for the team to score, what with his rump-shaking spell hypnotizing the goalie and such Seriously, he's up there causing havoc for both the goalie and the defender (and doing it within the rules, most of the time), thus getting them out of position for the shot. Draper's presence on the PK is helpful, what with his speed and experience. Once he gets those legs going, it would be damn hard to slow him without taking a penalty, which gives the Wings the ability to get on the PP. Maltby, like Draper, can draw penalties from the opposition in his own unique way, but sometimes it bites him in the rump. I'm sure that we can carry on with just one of the above missing from the lineup, but having all out will definately hamper us. It's gonna be up to the others to step up and try to fill that gap (whether real or imagined). It means the Cheli and Lids will have to work just a mite harder on the PK and defense, but it shouldn't be too much for them. Homer, on the other hand, is one that is a bit more difficult, as, well, who wants to get pushed around, chopped at, and just all around abused while in front of the net? Maybe Lijia can do that. He's fairly tough and a big body as well? Or Downey? Having someone hard to push away will help. Or maybe I'm just overanalyzing it all
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 Danny, Z and Rafalski played good. We shouldnt be giving peices of s*** like Pitkanen a half break away like they did. We have to beat the terrible teams in regulation. We didnt, we had zero hope against the Oil in the shootout, get over it. We'll kill the Panthers on saturday and eeevverryone will be happy. HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 It's fine. At least we got a point. I agree bout the injuries catching up as well. Anyways, no one should be complaing about Z taking a slapshot. He tried something different and it didn't work. It's not a big deal at all. End of the win streak but at least one point for the tie. Wings just looked lethargic tonight, just a step slow, passes just a little off, etc. Not one of their better games. Pretty much spot on. I was thinking the same while watching tonight. They looked really out of it and slow.

SO what good happend? obviously not much we lost.. Howd Kopecky look on the 2nd line? Downey get ina fight? Did hasek give away some goals? Kopecky wasn't bad, didn't do anything to stand out.. which can be both good and bad Downey didn't scrap, he did get the homer-esque goalie interference calls. First one was pretty shady, but the second one he just wasn't on his feet and couldn't get himself to stop near the goalie. Hasek played well, a few times things could have gotten bad but the D took care of it. Hartigan did score our first one though A good move in his 2nd game of the season. And a good goal at that. Downey had two retarded penalties, Holmstrom's absence on the powerplay was definetly noted.. Couldn't seem to get the puck out of our zone when we needed to. Downey took two bad penalties and saw very little ice for the rest of the game. Hasek cost us Pisani's goal, but played really well in spurts.

Hasek cost us Pisani's goal, but played really well in spurts. I'm not too concerned about the loss, or about the loss of key players. Holmstrom was definately missed, but Roloson was great, and as usual, the other teams' goalie was the biggest obstacle. They played lazy last night. It happens in a long season. I expect them to get back in form for the next game.
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 This team would be so epically screwed without Hank. Not exactly... much like last season, yes, they are relying on him a lot and thats becauase they can. When their weight eventually broke Zeta's back last season, we did not roll over and die. People stepped up the team gelled on a whole new level. I expect the same could be said if something was to happen to Zeta this season. The guys know how to git er dun... by why put forth the entire effort when they have zeta to rely on to save the day? haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 On the highlights they said that was the 9th shootout win for Edmonton this season. Is that right??? 9 of their 15 wins have been from that fake event?!

edicius 3,269 Report post Posted December 14, 2007 On the highlights they said that was the 9th shootout win for Edmonton this season. Is that right??? 9 of their 15 wins have been from that fake event?! Yep, and that bugs the hell out of me. I think a good chunk of Anaheim's most recent wins have been due to the shootout as well. Even more motivation to take away the loser point from the shootout. Seems like teams like Anaheim and Edmonton will play to tie until the shootout where they feel they have a better chance to get the W. Kind of makes regulation play meaningless with those teams. So much for playing the game.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted December 15, 2007 I don't see how their shootout record is going to help the Oilers come playoff time? Oh wait, they're not even going to make the playoffs, so it doesn't really matter.
