haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 I have to say, even at his bargain basement price, Drake has been a disappointment. He throws the occasional big hit and has fought a couple times, but is -8. That's a big number on this team. I'm just not sure he's worth the defensive liability he seems to be, especially with Downey in the lineup.

I'm sure he'll get back to headhunting soon.

But other than that, Id rather have Downey in the lineup. I wouldnt be surprised to see Downey and Drake switch off games once Maltby comes back.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 I can't wait for tomorrow's game. This season has already become boring for me, and we're still 4 months away from the playoffs. Hopefully a divisional game against a rival will start my blood boiling again after these dull games against the Caps and Kings.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Downey and Drake switch off games once Maltby comes back. I think Drake was just a hunch by Holland that hasn't paid off. Yeah the money investment wasn't big on him, but it's still a waste of roster space that could be used to give someone else a shot. Drake is 40 years old, he's already had his shot. HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 Kronner was amazing, and I am damn happy he got his career high 4 points in a game. ATTA BOY! I actually thought Drake played one of his better games tonight. He was all over the place. Great game by the fellas. GO WINGS!!
puertoricanWingsfan 5 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 once again, Zetterberg is a constant point machine, Holmstrom is a demon in front, and Hasek is doing well (mostly) in net. All the usual suspects. But did anyone else see the stat about Lidstrom and Rafalski being the league leaders in points as a defensive pairing? Looks like he (rafalski) was a pretty good pick up indeed... Go Wings!
JoePuckster 4 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 (edited) I haven't been super impressed with Drake, but he's been pretty good on the power play... I think he'll shine in the playoffs when the grit comes out.... and we'll be happy we have him... hopefully! Edited December 20, 2007 by JoePuckster
Shockwave180 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 This team is just on automatic right now. I have a feeling this road trip might bring a bit of adversity, but we'll see. Great performance tonight.
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 Wow Zetts was great tonight, and what a pass from Lids... Nice to see Saint Nick get 4 points... And Draper was great as well, so productive in the faceoff circle. Dom played well when needed. MAN I LOVE THESE WINGS

HoustonWingsFan 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 F Bettman and his stupid TV setup... I pay $140 for Center Ice, and then I can't watch tonight's game (and others) because of his new, stupid NHL Networks, which I would have to pay more for, IF my cable company offered it?!!! What a crock. No wonder the NHL is hurting for fans... they make it impossible or very very expensive for us to even watch the games on TV!! Bettman's gotta go. http://www.FireBettman.com Yep. I paid $149 . This is the 4th game I have missed so far this year and we haven't even reached the 1/3 mark of the season. My Austin Time Warner rep tells me that they have no intention of bringing the NHL Network onbard. (EVER!) I have sent a compaint every time this has happened. Not once have I recieived a response. Not even a canned we are sorry repsponse. Bettman is the death of the NHL. And we are dying. What a shame.
PenaltyShot 96 521 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 (edited) Christmas came early this year!! My parents told me we were going to some vague charity event and they surprised me with Red Wings tickets. Plus I got two jerseys cuz they were buy one get one half off lol    So that's a pretty big chunk of my Christmas, but it was worth it! This was an awesome game to go to. Wings dominated except for the very end of the 1st and the first 15 seconds of the 2nd... But I have to say that at its peak, the Joe was about 90% full. No exaggeration Edited December 20, 2007 by PenaltyShot

Looks like he (rafalski) was a pretty good pick up indeed... Go Wings! The team was rolling tonight for sure, though the Kings are an easy target. That second goal I'm sure is one Dom would like to have back. A bad angle shot from the top of the faceoff circle. Dom made some big saves tonight, but consistency is still a problem. (I don't want to say more or the Dom martyrs may jump in...) Edited December 20, 2007 by haroldsnepsts
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 Just got back from the game. Does anyone know if it was a sellout tonite? There were more people there tonite than most the games I've been to when the sellout streak was still alive. It was good game to be at...seems like the Wings could have put 10 up if they wanted to. gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 there's no reason for you to go for the throat as you put it, just tone down the sarcasm. It's uncalled for, and it makes you less credible. This (above post) is the most reasonable you've been in a while, and I appreciate it. Of course, I know Dom hasn't done well earlier in the season. I know that. He was injured and played anyway, and he shouldn't have. The fact that Ozzie has worked his butt off and improved his game is admirable and I am very grateful to have him, as I always have been. What I disagree with is the slamming, personally and professionally, of Hasek because he got a rough start. I don't mean you, 007 -- there are plenty who are far less reasonable about their opinions. Yes, I am a fan of the Dom, so are a lot of people. We react to the constand dismissive attitudes toward a player whom we all know can and will contribute to this team. We can continue this in PM's if you like, but know that I respect your opinions. I would like to know what you would do with Dom in terms of game time, which would be any different than what Babcock is doing? All the decisions about who's in goal thus far have been reasonable, and make sense if you look at schedules, track-records, all the factors. That is what I assume the coaches and staff are taking into consideration. Not playing Hasek as a favor to him, but because they believe it's the right thing to do? I've had no issue with any decisions made so far. I'd keep them rotating for a good while. Today is totally understandable to break it up as things like this happen. Just as Osgood likely will get a start or two more here and there when they need to put their best foot forward. Osgood's proven that he's got what it takes and he doesn't seem to be shaken by any off ice stuff so I don't think it hurts to give Hasek a few more chances here and there. I'm all for him getting his shot. Generally though, rotate until maybe trade deadline-ish and see where things stand. If Osgood's still playing better, get him geared up and ready to go in the playoffs. If Hasek proves that he can play at his top game, get him going. Even then not much would likely change in terms of rotation. Maybe 2-1-1-2-1-1 to close it out.

I'm just not sure he's worth the defensive liability he seems to be, especially with Downey in the lineup. I love Drake, but he doesnt even hit anymore. I watch him get a chance to lay a huge lick on someone, and just skates right past them. I might call it "Red Wing Syndrome", but Downey is a tough son of a gun and goes against the standard. I just hope, he turns it around. He cant blame his helmet anymore, he just doesnt have it in him IMO. I think if he doesnt start to throw the body more, he may be on the way out. He's a good playoff guy, so that'll be the decider, I just dont think he's got it left in him to be a cheapshotter/big hitter. I think I've seen Datsyuk throw bigger hits then Drake so far this season
