12/27 GDT: Red Wings 4, Avalanche 2

I thought Kronwall looked good tonite offensively. Not necessarily just the assists, but he was making some nice moves around fore checkers at the blue line and getting good shots.

Exactly.

Looks like on ESPN.com they have Flip as 1st star, then Dom with the 2nd. Still, I thought Kronwall played awesome tonight.

As I said earlier, for those who wonder what Wings management sees in him, tonight was a great example.

EDIT: Holy crap I posted a lot in the GDT tonight. I guess I was just excited I actually had a chance to watch a Wings game! :P

Pretty exciting game. One thing that hasn't changed is the Avs still play pretty wide open hockey. They had some nice puck movement going on during their PPs and they can definitely skate. There was a lot of hitting on both sides. Good, clean hits, too. The Wings had every reason to lose this game playing on consecutive nights but gutted out a good win. Hasek looked good.

Filppula, Hudler, Kronwall... the younger players are really making a name for themselves of late. It's good to see. The Wings look very good right now.

I really thought the Wings did just enough to win tonight, they just didn't look to good I'm glad they won tonight.

I honestly think it was a combination of playing a game last night and playing tonight in such thin air. A normal human being would be sucking for air just standing there...can you imagine skating aroung like that? I honestly didn't expect a win but am far from complaining.

I thought that this was a great game. It was nice to our guys play in a great close game that we had to fight through. The guys didn't give up and played some great hockey.

It was also nice to see a game that was a little more like the good old old days of the detroit colorado games in the past. it was not exactly the same, but you say that there is still some hatred out there for the each other. I would love to see us get the old rivalry back. I miss the fights and the physical games that we use to have.

THAT'S A WIN!!!!!!

Flip, you're amazing. How do you say "YOU'RE ******* AWESOME" in Finnish?

Lock him up Kenny! DO IT!

If some of our defensemen are getting tired, I know someone in GR who looked DAMN SPECTACULAR in last year's playoffs who would LOVE to come to Detroit......

HeHe - cannot begin to tell you how much fun that was!

Got tickets through the UM club of Denver to the game and there were about 40 of us in our section - plus just a sea of Red in general - which totally pisses off the Avs fans - and boy were they obnoxious tonight.

Nice to stick in to them in their own building! Way to go Red Wings Nation - really rocked the Pepsi Center tonight!

Go Wings! :D

Does anyone know why the highlights on NHL.com don't have any announcing? It was like that for half of the highlights for last night's game against the Blue's as well.

I noticed that too. I'm thinking incompetence. It is interesting hearing the game without announcers though.

Hey did anybody else read this, the last line in the AP story?

The Pepsi Center was near capacity despite the second major snowstorm to hit Denver in three days.

This is unlike Boston when only 1,500 people attended a game during a snowstorm.

Denver is a hockey town.

You know, I really do like Babs!

"Val's a real good player, and people in the league are going to get to know that," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said.

"He's such a strong skater that just because he played last night isn't going to make a difference to him, he's effortless," Babcock said of Filppula. "He's a dynamic player, he's got a great hockey mind. He's starting to shoot the puck instead of pass all the time."

He's definitely putting more shots on the board, and he also has the 3rd best shooting % in the league.

You gotta think this is what the Wings brass had in mind last year back in February when they let the league know that Val was untouchable. The confidence that this kid is playing with will be huge for the rest of his career. His ice-time should only go up which will continue to balance the Wings' offensive attack.

Ponder this: If Val is doing this well right now imagine what will happen if the Wings bring in a 2nd-liner to play alongside him at the deadline. Scary for other teams!

You can take it one step further and think about what type of player the Wings brass will bring in that compliments his style of play, instead of the prototypical "Power Forward" that everyone keeps clamouring for which may or may not be reasonably available at the deadline.

Huds and Flip are the poor man's Dats and Zetts!!

Cheers to the kids!

Boston is more of a hockey town then Denver. One game does not a fan base make.
