Mudvayneowns91 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) I hope we keep Cleary. People say he woudln't be the same player on other teams, which may be true.... But this guy plays his ass off for us. We need to sign him even if the contract is a little more expensive than people want. What was the name of that Swedish player that Holland mentioned?? Wings Here's an article about him. Not sure how quality it is though. Edited January 24, 2008 by Mudvayneowns91
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 That was probably the most exiting Wings game I've seen in a long, long time, and that's not only because of the fights (though, that definitly played a big part ). The Wings really played well against the Ducks, and they totally took me by surprise. I half-expected that with no Zetterberg, being in Anaheim, and on the bad end of a back-to-back series, the Wings would have been blown out of the water tonight. But they played a solid game (Hasek was fantastic) and really proved themselves. ...and I must say: Dan Cleary is awesome! Gutsy move on his part to take on a much bigger guy in Chris Pronger, but he handled himself quite well. Great effort!

dallas27 7 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 1. Flip, for the GWG 2. Prissy bec. he will cry if he doesn't get a star 3. Datsyuk ...because he's going to the ASG, I guess, 1A No star for Hasek. Pardon me while I look surprised. Maybe they had a bigger impact on the game? (i watched the whole game). I know you think he deserves a star every game but there were people out there today that deserved it more. Again he played well, but Mr. Daniels likes to embellish saves. I would given the wings fourth line a star before most anyone. They stepped up big time given Cleary was out. Especially Ellis and Kopecky.

Stopping the mad flurries when the game was on the line, with his head or whatever he had handy, made more of an impact than Dats' assist. Sorry. I got the Anaheim feed, so I don't know what Daniels embellished or not. I know how well Dom played, however. But, I understand there are those here who think Dom never deserves a star, regardless of how well he plays. He really can't win for losing with some people, which is a real shame. Mostly, you get your way and he doesn't get recognized, so be happy and move on. edit: I would have given Kronner one over Dats and certainly over Pronger... pretty much anyone, besides him, actually. clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Wow, this game was playoff intensity for the majority of the game. Everyone finishing there checks and the wings more than holding there own without Z. Kopecky was awesome tonight as was Kronner. Lets just hope Clears is not significantly injured. Great team game across the board.

Viperar 16 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Hasek was very good tonite. I was feeling pretty confident that he'd get it done. for sure, i will say it again, with our goalie tandem right now, we are truly in a state of luxury kudos to both of those guys, being able to deal with the rotation, sometimes favoring the other guy, but always putting in their best effort for the team. If those two guys aren't fighting between each other why are we Hasek/Ozzie, Ozzie/Hasek for the win! (i put in both orders to avoid crisis )
wingnut40 176 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) Freaking Cleary was hurt? how'd that happen? I don't know he didn't get into a fight with someone twice his size or anything. And he definitely wasn't bleeding at all.(Sarcasm) But seriously, they said his eye was swollen shut. He's always got a shiner on his face. There was a thread about how he must get in in bar fights 'cause it seems that he's got a new one each game. I wonder if there's gonna be an awesome pic of his battle scare somewhere. I usually don't get to watch Wings games and tonight was no exception. I got so excited when I found out we beat the Ducks at their place, especially after a back to back I went the GDT topic tonight and saw that Cleary was hurt. That's why I didn't know. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Well the AP writer called the Cleary - Pronger fight a draw. Even though all FSN West showed was Cleary turtling. Too bad FSN didn't show Pronger doing is Cat Woman impersonation.

You do realize that, at some point this season, you may have to accept the fact that Dom had a big game? And watching Kronwall send Perry flying was priceless. Still MIGHTY 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 Hey I'm sorry if I rubbed some of you guys the wrong way earlier. I was just having a little fun with some opposing fans in pre-game. We all do it. Also, I just really hate hearing that old Disney-joke re-run in any forum I'm on when I talk about the Ducks. I respect the Wings. I do. You're a great team with a great history that the Ducks are no where near at this point. It happens when you have 75 years more experience at this thing. I've just never taken the Ducks as a joke. I'm turning 18 on February 9th (and I'll be in Detroit for the game on the 10th) and the Ducks have really been the only team I've known in my life. I've been going to games since I was 3 years old. This team is a huge part of my life. We've had season tix every year the Ducks have been in existence. Thats why I feel so much for this team. And the series we've had with the Wings recently and overall have made me grow a sort of passion against your Wings. But thats good. I love a good, mean-spirited rivalry. I'm sorry if I bleed Orange/Black/Gold (or Jade/Eggplant/Gray) but its just me. I love this team with all my soul. So most trash talk I can take. The we're goons crap or Pronger's gap or any of that. But the whole Disney/cartoon thing. Thats been long over. I am a Duck! and damn proud of it.... All that aside now. The game. I was there and my god it was intense. That was probably the best 1st period we've played all year. Bertuzzi getting into it early and Pronger beatin the ever-livin' out of Cleary (did he ever come back by the way? I wasnt looking for him). Tough and hard fought all around. If not for a few dumb penalties by the Ducks and that broken stick by Beauchemin, it's 0-0 in OT where its all up to the hockey gods and how they determine the game be won. I wouldve gladly taken that hard-earned point and the tie for 1st in the Division. That said, I was really impressed with Detroit and the way we played against you. Great puck movement, control and speed. But in my personal opinion, If we were to meet in the playoffs in a best of 7, I think the Ducks size and strength and determination would eventually wear down on the Wings. It would probably be similar to the Western Finals last year. Either team in 6 or 7. But over a long series, I give the advantage to the Ducks. Overall great game. See you in February at the Joe. Go Ducks!
Packer487 3 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 I was there and my god it was intense. That was probably the best 1st period we've played all year. Still MIGHTY 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) Fixed that for ya! hm... nice. Thanks I was in the stands. From my vantage point, It looked like he beat the ever-livin' hell out of him. I havent seen the replay yet. either way. There was blood. and swelling. and purple Cleary got effed up. Edited January 24, 2008 by Still MIGHTY
Packer487 3 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 That was a fun game, just caught it on the DVR. Pretty much everyone played well. I'd go as far as to say that is the best I've ever seen Kopecky play. He's seemed like just a body for the most part, but he was awesome tonight. Dom was stellar, but that's been par for the course for the last two months. I give Cleary big-time props for going with Pinhead, and he handled himself well, despite the immediate finger in the eye. The Ducks are a bunch of punk-ass chumps. There's about 3 guys on that team that I don't want to see get cross-checked in the face, and those extra 3 can go to Pronger instead. Very happy with the effort out of everyone tonight. And how bout that stat that Lidstrom has only gotten called for roughing one time in his career. That's absolutely incredible. Is it possible for a 5 (soon to be six) time Norris winner to be underrated? Because I think he still is somehow.
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) Man that was a fun game to be at! Intense first, very solid second, ran out of gas a bit in the third after B2Bs without Z (and Cleary for most of this one). Still, a very solid effort all round. What I loved most about the game was the way the team stood up for each other in a way I didn't see even last year. Cleary, Franzen, Downey, even Kopecky and Huddles stood tall. Mad props to Cleary for going balls out against the Ugly Ogre. The fight was right in front of me. Cleary had a look on his face like, "Yeah, you're twice my size, and I'm not thrilled about fighting you, but let's dance, big boy." The Wings can still play better, but this looked like a coming together moment for the team. Edit: Forgot to mention Malts. He had one of his best games of the year. He was around the puck the entire game on both ends of the ice. Edited January 24, 2008 by Third Man In

There was blood. and swelling. and purple Cleary got effed up. He got gouged in the fricken eye...no wonder. It was a much closer fight than you saw from your vantage point. He most definitely did not get effed up. Unless you're counting Fronger's finger nails.
