RedFX 48 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Still trying to find a video of this. In tonight's Pittsburgh-Philly game, Steve Downie got leveled into the boards by Georges Laraque. Downie was very slow getting up, and he did not return to the game. Laraque got 5 and a game misconduct. I don't like seeing people get hurt like this. But for everything that Downie has done over his career, maybe its time he got what was coming to him.
e_mcgrath88 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 he was laughing after the play and returned soon after the hit.. Big George didnt even use any force, it was a light push into the boards followed by an acting job by Downie.
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 (edited) Yeah, you could tell Downie was acting because apparently he's terrible at it. I'm glad Downie finally got a taste of his own medicine, and I'm really curious to see what supplemental discipline he gets. The hit happened with like 3 seconds left in the 2nd, and Downie was back on the bench for the 3rd. He did get tossed in the 3rd for not having his tie-down though. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Just watched the video, no doubt a huge acting job by Downie, who appeared to throw himself into the boards. You could tell that Laraque wanted to cream him, but in the end, didn't hit him. He gave him a little shove that propelled him into the boards like a missle. I know Laraque is a strong guy, but come on....

It was a little shove at best and then Downie earned a Grammy for his acting.

wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 So i think Downie is up for an oscar or something like that.. It's too bad the 2 didn't drop the gloves and fight. George had a great fight against Cote, he was landing some bombs

Lidsyukerberg 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Oh...oh...I feel...woozy... Mom?...is that...you? I don't....want...to....go to school....today Look at him right after the hit and the camera goes to him laying on the ice. Look at his eyes, they are open and he is looking toward the refs to see if they see his plight. Look really close, you'll see it. It's funny. Trainer: Do you know where you are? Downie: Yeah, I'm in Philli playing hockey Trainer: How many fingers am I holding up? Downie: Three Trainer: What year is it? Downie: 2008 Trainer: Do you know who you are? Downie: Yes. I'm Batman! ::Stands in heroic pose::

Louisville 112 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 From what I saw, it looked like he used his one left hand to slighty push Downie. He was definitely milking it.
shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 I would have to agree, after watching the video over and over, it does appear to be worth of an Oscar. He did a nice job of diving on that hit. I hope that the NHL really takes a good long look at this "hit." It doesn't deserve any further penalty to George.

It was a little shove at best and then Downie earned a Grammy for his acting. You shoulda seen the Flyers boards, they were livid. Not one single person on that board even mentioned that it looked like the greatest acting job ever. George barely shoves him and he rockets into the boards. It was ridiculously over the top on Downie's part and he's lucky he didn't hurt himself on his own.

Downie not doing the honourable thing when fighting is concerned? I am SO sick and tired of the new wave of pests coming into the league. Guys like Downie and Perry takes runs and cheapshots at players every night and then they hide behind their massive shields and refuse to take them off when a fight they caused breaks out. Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Downey is making quite the name for himself. He has sure had some bonehead plays in his brief pro career and should be punished. Can't help feeling a bit bad for him though, with his hearing and losing his dad like that.

Can't help feeling a bit bad for him though, with his hearing and losing his dad like that. I have a friend who lost his older brother in a car accident in high school. We stopped hanging out a few years back but at the time, we were like 27 I guess, there wasn't a night we went bar hopping where he wouldnt' get us into some kind of bar fight or street fight or other bulls***. Even when we told him to chill out he'd still haul off on somebody and the next thing you know there'd be trouble. He never talked about it but losing his brother messed him up big time and Downie's troubles and on ice attitude seem to mimic that of my friend's. It's got to be hard. Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 I'M SHOCKED! Downie not doing the honourable thing when fighting is concerned? If you're going to rip on Downie and call him not honorable for that Hank, then you'd also be calling our boy Darren McCarty (who was Rob Ray-lite) the same. He was famous for not being tied down. I recall Reed Low back in 03 or so complaining about McCarty's jersey after a fight....which stemmed not only from their fight (where Mac got tossed) but a prior one on a New Years eve where he fought Bryce Salvador(and also got tossed for not being tied!). Its a nothing rule, if you get caught breaking it goes under the who cares file. Plenty of guys have got caught over the years.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 25, 2008 That wasnt the part that pissed me off. The fact he comes out in the third and picks a fight with Ryan Stone, and LEAVES HIS VISOR ON AGAIN. I will not say this kid is tough so long as he continues to leave his visor on.
