Who we watching?

I understand that our scouts checked out the Chicago Columbus game last night.

This throws alot in the air but probably much ado about nothing. Whilst all the gossip

lately points to Blake in LA, maybe a cheaper version is the Jax Foote. Its no secret

that the Wings would like to add a D man, but what style are they after. Do they want

just a rental or someone who would stay 2-3 years? With our depth in the minors at D

I can't see us looking to get the likes of Blake or Foote for more than the final part of the

season and post season. Surely we couldn't have been scouting any Hawks players,

could we? Maybe some sort of deal to get local boy Wisniewski back home could be the

reason, sending Meech and Ellis the other way. Who knows, but the rumour the other

day of Khabibulin and Chelios just got a little bit more fuel for the fire.

That Jared Boll kid sure would look mighty spiffy in red and white!

To make some of the people here on the board happy (since we know the wings people read it) They were looking at Federov (who's on IR) and they were going to offer Lids for him, but since he's on IR it just can't happen yet.

I kid, I kid.

Who knows what they are looking at there. Could involve a three way trade, could be nothing.

No it didn't.

I can't think of a single reason why any one of our division rivals would make good trading partners. All of them are in a heated race for a couple bottom playoff seeds and would be unlikely besides to want to make a midseason trade with a division rival. Therefore I imagine that the scouts at the game were scouting the teams for matchup purposes, not the players for trade possibilities.

Who?...Oh wait I found some stats:

Season GP G A P +/- PIM PP SH GW Shots Pct

2007-2008 50 5 2 7 2 157 0 0 3 37 13.5

Why exactly would he look spiffy in red and white? He's played 50 games and he has 7 points!! Oh I see the you like him because of the 157 pims. There is no need for him, we have Downey doing a fine job warming the end of the bench until his time to straighten someone out comes!! Plus Downey is apparently awesome in the dressing room and will do and play whatever and wherever it takes to help this team out.

You must be one of those guys who love to watch Cleary get his ass beat by Pronger.

Boll would be a freaking awesome addition for us, But i doubt CBJs are looking to deal him, and i doubt Holland would want him.

That Pronger/Cleary bout got Pronger off the ice for 5 minutes, which allowed us to score our first goal during the power play that followed.

Pronger wouldn't fight anyone that has a chance of beating him, so it wouldn't have mattered if we Boll, Downey, or Probert playing for us at the time.

Not me but I loved the fact that the ducks tried to goon it up and ended up losing the game. You want a team full of big strong Canadians so we can get the same result as the Sharks? Oh, but nobody beats on the Sharks. Only problem is that they don't win.

Are Kopecky and Drake that much better statistically? At least Boll can do something those guys can't.

you ask "who?" then try to play GordieSid&Ted like the fool.. if you haven't heard of Jared Boll that says a little bit about your NHL awareness, anyways...

Jared Boll is 21, good size at 6'2 206, one of the most physical players so far this year, especially on the forecheck and he leads the league with 18 regular season fights.... and oh yeah, he's disciplined! on top of his 5 goals, 3 were game winners while getting under 10 minutes a game.. he put up very respectable numbers in the OHL (41 pts, 55 pts) while being a physical force and he's carried that game to the NHL level at such a young age.

he is not a replacement for Downey, although essentially he could be, but he's more than just an enforcer, every team in the league would like Jared Boll in their system

100% agree. Guys like Boll who play extremely physical and also have talent are guys that every team wants. If he manages to score 9 or 10 goals all the while leading the league in fights that will be a phenominal rookie year for him.

Jared Boll or Dustin Brown would be the top of my list

Me too, problem with Brown though is we would never give up the assets it would take to acquire him. Kindl would barely even get things started.

Boll would be a great pickup, and we wouldn't have to give up anything for him either. He'd be a huge upgrade over Kopecky.

Plus, from a fight fan standpoint, it would be awesome to have the guy that's currently leading the NHL in fighting majors on the team. :D

Brown? mine too.. but it would take Filppula+Kindl to get him here... Bluejackets can keep Boll though..

I totally agree. Brown would be an awesome fit but there is no chance we will get him and no chance the King's will deal him. This Boll kid may be a good player some day but these people in this thread who want him because he leads the league in fighting majors are lost. I love a good fight but the fact of the matter nowadays is that 9 out of 10 fights do nothing in this league but provide entertainment. Parros and Ivanans last night was a great fight but it did nothing for either team, it was just two meatheads with no skill beating each other up. If this Boll kid is such a good young player why can't he get more than 8 minutes a game playing for a less than average Jackets team? This league is about depth now, not having 3 goons on your team who sit on the end of the bench, team's have to be 4 lines deep. I don't know why people can't get it through their head that as long as Holland is the GM and Illitch is the owner this team will be built around smart, speedy, skillful players and not a team of meatheads who can't play. The Wing's aren't intimidated by anyone in this league and that includes the Duck's. We don't need to beat the Duck's in the alley because we can beat them on the scoreboard!!

Haha, the Wings won't get that opportunity if they get beat up first.

The reasoning behind mine (and others as well) for wanting Boll is this: the Wings have two guys in particular right now, Tomas Kopecky and Dallas Drake, that contribute absolutely nothing to the team. They only both get a few minutes a night, and when they do play, they don't do s*** out there.

So, if you're going to have a bunch of guys who never play that much, why not have someone who will at least provide you with physical play and maybe even a fight in his 4-6 minutes a night? They have Downey, but even Downey isn't all that much.

It's funny: people use the term "power forward" to describe Kopecky, who is anything but, yet when Boll's name get's thrown around, people call him a useless goon who can't do anything. I'm really starting to think people are afraid to have a tough guy on this team anymore, because of that whole Brad Norton debacle.

Boll isn't a bad hockey player. Obviously you haven't watched the guy play at all, because unlike Parros and Ivanans (the previous two you mentioned), Boll is not a one-dimensional fighter like those two. He put up respectable numbers in juniors, and has the potential to do that in the NHL as well.

Do you really think Pronger would go at it with a fourth line enforcer?

Cleary is at least a second liner, and Pronger probably knew that when he dropped 'em.

I can't believe you just figured that out. It seems like many people here want a tough guy who can score 20 goals and not pick up any minor penalties while still trying to be physical. Unrealistic expectations is what it is.

I figured it was that way with a specific few, but now it seems like the whole forum (besides those of us who post regularly in the fight thread) are against having any sort of player like that. It's gotten much worse.
