Emery late for practice once again

So wait I'm the bad guy? But it's okay to put up Iverson when he had his attitude with the '76ers? Then laugh about how he talks.

This is silly. I posted the video for clarification because I wasn't sure that mason got the references earlier in the thread. And who was laughing at the way he talks, aside from his comments in that context being ridiculous? I certainly wasn't (reread the thread if you wish).

It was a funny reference to another primadonna athlete bitching when they get called out for missing practice. Nothing more.

The think that really bugged me the most is that if we want to grow the game rating and revenue and so on we need minority markets blacks, latina/Hispanic, asia in general would be nice. I just read a similer artical abot this on kuklas and they said it could be 15 years before they get there insperational black hockey icon like Iginla but born in Amaerica. Even tough Emery is Canadian he can still help grow the game in the US (since I'd bet on him being traded) if he's in a large media market like L.A. He could help or it he countinues to act like this be a detriment to the game if the black hockey players look up to him they might emulate his bad attitude. He shouls be a role model whether he likes it or not.

Sad to see a great talent throw it all away becasue they don't want to put in the extra work. Seems to be Ottawa's problem. People questioned their toughness and they went out and got a bunch of goons (Neil, Varada, etc...). Wrong. Toughness isn't how much PIM's you can count up. Look at the Wings and their cups. Gilchrist taking pain killer shots in the locker room before playoff games and screaming in pain. Yzerman hardly able to walk up an airplane but still putting it all on the line for that cup. I don't know...I think Emrey just wants to fight people and get in highlight films for brawls. Just my opinion.

and it continues....

Emery is being very selfish. He get paid 3-million a year, he should at least put some effort into trying to make it on time.

I wouldn't be surprised if they traded him, he's almost asking for it.

XM radio, the hockey show Icecaps is reporthing that there is a possible deal in the works for Emery and Corvo to Tampa for Boyle and Prospal.

Honestly, why is the media all over this. Ray Emery showed up late for practice... OH NO, TRAVESTY. It's irresponsible on his behalf, but it's no big deal.

He might as well set up a dog fighting ring, or sucker punch a player from behind breaking his neck.

Have you ever played team sports? Do you know how this makes John Paddock look? This is more than just missing practice, it's about insubordination and disrespect for his coach and his teammates.

Emery is a primadonna and by doing this I believe he IS asking to be traded. He's obviously ticked off that he has to share the crease with Gerber and he doesn't like it.

If I were Bryan Murray, I'd send him to the farm. If he gets picked up, big deal. It's $3.5M off their books. Then let him miss practice with another club.

Zoolander needs a kick in the ass.

If Emery played somewhere outside of Canada, he could show up an hour late before every practice and the media pressure on him wouldn't be half as high. He's either a rebel or an idiot behaving this way while playing in a hockey market with obsessed journalists.

I think you're dead on, Hank. This isn't an issue of race or color, it's a matter of personal work ethic and character. His behavior has nothing to do with his talents as a player... and everything to do with it, at the same time.

Murray won't stand for this, not for long anyway. It's a shame, too -- I thought Ray had grown up a little, but Gerber's resurgence as #1 in Ottawa has apparently rattled Emery's unstable psyche.

**Happy Birthday, Dom!!!**

lol i dont think showing up to practice late is that big of a deal

Me neither.... I show up for work late every day because i hate my boss and i like to make her sweat a bit wonder if TODAY'S THE DAY!!!! that i quit and leave her to her helpless ways.

Obviously Emery doesn't like his current boss... So sue him! Most employees behavior is a creation of the tool (their boss)

Can't wait until i can quit my job.... soon.... very soon! 45 year plans suck ass anyways

McCarty smokes weed and has gambling problems. Does that make him hip hop?

Hells NO! Grinder ain't no Hip-hop yo! just so we be on the same page.... thats Hardcore Crap!

Sportsnet.ca -- Ray Emery may have played his last game in a Ottawa Senators uniform.

Emery, who spent the All-star weekend in Las Vegas, arrived late to the Senators practice in Long Island Monday, reports the Ottawa Sun. Emery went directly to the players dressing room but was told by coaching staff that he was not welcome to practise with the team.

"I don't want to make any comment on it right now," said head coach Paddock. "We were going to go on the ice at 4 p.m. and when he wasn't here, then it's done with and it's done with until I talk to (Murray) and we both talk to (Emery) ... I don't know."

Emery could be facing an indefinite suspension without pay from the team. The troubled goalie was already sent home for arriving late from practice in December by Paddock.

Ottawa teammates admit Emery's antics have become a distraction to the team.

"I don't know why he was late or what the problem was. Nobody has really seen him. We're going to have to see why he was late before saying anything about it," said Ottawa assistant captain Wade Redden. "We know he's not the kind of guy who goes by the book all the time. There's good and bad to that."

sportsnet always jumps the gun on this sort of thing but still this idea has been floating around quite and bit and having heard the phone interview with paddock theyre quoting the sens seem to be insanely pissed and i dont blame them.

To me this has nothing to do with race and everything to do with Emery alone. Every single race has their share of people that work hard and have great attitudes as well as those that don't care about anyone but themselves and only put in as much effort as they feel like. The problem with *team* sports is people of any race with this type of attitude not only bring the team down by not aiding their teammates in practice, but become a distraction as well.

The point is no one should be pulling the race card out on this. This is just Emery being a prima donna and only caring about himself. Nothing more.

okay, I've been holding off until now in the thread, but Kilpatrick?? As in Kwame?

wtf?

So Emery has a bad attitude (he does) and it's typical hip hop attitude? And now he has something in common with a guy who tortures dogs?

What about the other players in the league with a bad attitude or personal problems? Lang had a questionable work ethic. Does that make him hip hop? McCarty smokes weed and has gambling problems. Does that make him hip hop?

Hmmm... Emery is a hockey goalie, Vick is a football QB, and Kwame is a politician (unless you were referring to the linebacker for the Arizona Wildcats) what could it be that they all have in common that you somehow lump them together?

Apparently, he's clean now. Here's hoping there's truth to that report.

Yeah, I don't get this either. The guy shows up for practice 4 minutes late? And another time he didn't show up the 1 hour the coach said he "wants" players to show up before hitting the ice.

So, instead of letting your goaltender practice (afterall he's ******* their and dressed and ready to go), you send him home, piss him off, he now gets pissed at the coach, the coach is pissed at him, the GM might have to get involved, the players are getting on each other's nerves, its making negative headlines, etc....

Talk about focusing on the peas and not the steak. Rules, rules, yeah, yeah...Talk to the guy in private and make him accountable for showing up on time. But to start all this drama because the guy is 4 ******* minutes late to hit the ice?

This is the reason why the Sens will not win a cup with this group of players. We can blame it all on Emery for simply not being on time. But in the grand scheme of things, are you willing to toss your playoff hopes into the gutter and put your team into a state of dissarray over 4 minutes? Sounds stupid to me.

looks like they might give Emery one more chance to straighten up and fly right. My Sens fan friend just emailed me to tell me Emery was on the ice this morning, and might start tonight.

Way to reward Gerber for busting his butt, huh?

edit: correction, now the news is Emery will be allowed to suit up, not nec. start v. the Islanders. AHL is on all-star break so they can't call someone up from Binghamton club.

I am watching this game tonight, for sure!

Apparently the Sens tried to unload him earlier, no takers, per: Garrioch/Sun

What is it with Sens goalies?

Looks like Emery is a flake

They made Lalime look like the next Patrick Roy and he was a flake

Gerber came in prior to Emery blowing up and he sucked so bad Emery stole the show and took them to a Cup and now Gerber is the stud????

Methinks if i'm a goalie i'm looking to sign with another good team before I throw myself at Ottawa.

If one thinks life in Detroit as as goalie is rough, it's 10x worse in Ottawa. The fans there turn on a dime, from gushing praise to murderous rage.

I was not at all surprised to see that Paddock is "just tired" of it all, and that Murray had been plotting to dump Emery all season. Lucky for them, Gerber has hung in there. He was treated badly his first season, and his numbers reflected the lack of confidence he must have felt.

It's a thankless job being a goalie anywhere, I think.

My job is thankless, too -- but I don't get paid near as much. :hehe:

Bulls***. He's a professional athlete with a responsibility to his team. He knows what he's doing, and it's something you simply don't do when you are, like he is, a professional athlete with a responsibility to your team.

When a player acts like this, it puts the coaches in a bad spot and is tough on morale, especially if the team is at all brittle emotionally.

I don't know that Ray is going to have to worry about being responsible to the Sens for much longer, unless they really are stuck with him. And that could be the case.

He fought McGrattan in a Sens practice a few weeks ago. He could actually be an upgrade over Kopecky. :P

A bag of beans would be an upgrade over Kopecky. Maybe we can trade Sammy and Kopecky for McGrattan and Emery? No way the Sens turn that trade down.
