HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 anyone else get the impression that Brad Stuart was auditioning for the Wings? LOL thats what I thought. If that was an audition..then DAMN welcome aboard! I'd love to get him. He's a shot blocking machine.
Datsyukian Geek 2 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 I can't believe the Rangers lost to these guys the other night without Blake. No wonder Avery got in a fight with Malik during practice. Tomorrow we'll hear about Downey and Lilja pummeling each other, following the same logic. *sighs* This night was shaping up well, horrible way to end it. RedWingsFanatic 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 I think a bag of beans could offer more to the team than Ellis. He'll never amount to anything in the NHL. If the Wings want energy guys, why don't they try playing players who actually provide energy? Ellis doesn't do that at all. I wouldn't see the difference in playing Downey over Ellis. It just seems like guys who fight get a bad repuation with this organization anymore, and I seriously can't figure out the reason why. At least fighters provide a certain element to the lineup. The Wings have too many guys like Ellis that provide absolutley nothing at all. He's not even used on the PK, so why exactly do the Wings still continue to have him? On the subject of Maltby: he's grown steadily useless over the years, but again, I'm a bit biased towards him. Besides that, he's still better than Ellis. I agree with everything in this post. I'm just not quite sure what Matt Ellis is bringing to the team, either. I'm not sure what he would bring to any team, for that matter. Playing him over Drake and Downey on a consistent basis a big mistake, and I hope that doesn't continue to happen. And, yeah, I know Kirk Maltby doesn't really do anything anymore. And I know that he hasn't been productive in about a decade. But, screw it, I love the guy. I want him to play. In a perfect world, Darren McCarty comes back, gets paired up with Maltby and Draper, and they become the hottest, most beloved line in the NHL. I can dream, folks. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 anyone else get the impression that Brad Stuart was auditioning for the Wings? Yeah, I thought the same thing. I don't what to say about Stuart. He's been in the league for about 10 years or so, but has not even came close to the expectations that came with his draft selection (#3 overall). I mean, as a depth move, I certainly wouldn't mind it, and he's a lot less mistake prone than Lilja. Stuart isn't a bad player, and as long as Kronwall continues to toil on the IR, the Wings need depth on the blueline. Stuart would be fine for a playoff rental if they don't give up much for him, and hey, if he plays well, he could even be re-signed by the Wings.

Ignoring the fact it's incredibly unlikely, is it possible for McCarty to play for the Wings this season? I'm not for one second saying it should happen anytime soon, but if I had to choose bewteen Ellis and McCarty for who should play the energy role, I'd go for D-Mac, as long as he's fit and in NHL shape of course. HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Well, I'm not sure where you are getting your stats from. He played very well against Boston, though the first goal was a bit questionable. He was equally up to the task against Phoenix. But, he gave up four goals in two periods against Atlanta and five, including losing in the shootout, to Minnesota in the two previous starts. You combine that with tonight's game, and it's four or more goals in three of his last five starts, and it might be time for Hasek to get some more starts. Again, I love Chris Osgood as much as anybody, but he hasn't been quite the same since signing his big contract and starting the All-Star Game. Hasek has been so hot lately, you almost are forced to go with him on a more regular basis. You said after the All Star break he hasn't been that good. His last three starts he's allowed no more than a goal again, and his save % has been nearly 97%. The games against the Thrashers/Wild were before the ASG. jim3033 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Did you see the Cleary interview? He didn't have much to say. Hope that was over the loss! Zetterberg seemed flustered too. Babcock didn't have much to say. I hope some stupid fans didn't yell blasphemy onto the ice. That Kings game was one of the easiest to get tickets to. I saw some guy with a wingnut hat standing up with his arms in the air and I was like "wtf man sit down. one bad game." Mickey Redmond was sure quiet. I know he was upset over the penalties. I'm more worried about the fans saying something rude than the loss. They have the biggest weekend of the regular season coming up here. I hope they are ready for Toronto and Anaheim. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 I hope the crowd didn't boo them off? If there's one thing I hate in this world, it's when "supporters" boo their own team.

His last three starts he's allowed no more than a goal again, and his save % has been nearly 97%. The games against the Thrashers/Wild were before the ASG. Chris Osgood's last three starts: Tonight vs. Los Angeles - five goals allowed 2/2 vs. Boston - one goal allowed 1/30 vs. Phoenix - two goals allowed So, no. And, then if you look at the two starts previous to those, he gave up four to Atlanta and five to Minnesota. So, in his last five starts, he's giving up an average of 3.4 goals a game. Again, not trying to get down on Ozzie, but the numbers are there. Interpret them as you wish. Edited February 8, 2008 by RedWingsFanatic
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) Those last two goals were bad. Osgood is notorious for letting in blue line shots though. The first three however were the teams fault. Granted I guess it's not as bad as the ones labarba (or however you spell it) let in. I guess we'll have to disagree. the only one I had a problem with was the first one, where he lost sight of the puck. It'd be nice if he came up with huge saves on some of those other goals, but I can't fault him for him either. Like when Kopitar is 6 feet away and beats none other than Nick Lidstrom to get off a quality shot. Totally uncharacteristic game by the Wings tonight. They gave up the goals in the third, but they were giving up chances all night. It just caught up with them in the last period. jim3033 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Yeah, for the best team in the world to get booed at home would be insane. I saw that guy standing up with his arms in the air but I didn't really hear anything on the TV. I haven't been to a game there since the late 90's and it was a regular season game where we lost 3-0 to Edmonton but nobody dared boo or anything. It's hard to say this year though, since all the auto jobs are gone there are a lot more cranky people out there!
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Oh wow, I completely forgot to mention the best part of tonights game... not once did I hear the song "Hey Hey Hockeytown" be played tonight! Keep it up, Wings DJ!

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) Blasphemy, that song is awesome. :< No way. I thought it was all right when it first came out, because it was a novelty item, but the Wings DJ just overplays it to death. I mean, playing after a goal is one thing, but he also plays it during every commercial break. That's just way too much. Hopefully, he's seen the light, and realizes it's a bad song. jim3033 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Oh wow, I completely forgot to mention the best part of tonights game... not once did I hear the song "Hey Hey Hockeytown" be played tonight! Keep it up, Wings DJ! It was 80's night at the Joe. It was weird when they played "somebody's watchin' you" at the end of the game because Ken Holland was up in the birds nest watching how everyone played. I think that was why they played like crap. Cleary hasn't signed a contract yet and other guys could get traded for someone else. Did you see Hudler doing that crazy deke crap in the corner with no one around him? It was kind of funny. The D broke down in the third and Ozzy broke down shortly thereafter. But the whole game was weird, people were all over the place. Even in Minnesota they had a structure to their game. Seems like it was a message game or something. It was like the 80's wings. Plus, the way Cleary and Z chose their words after the game was a little funky
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Yeah, I know 80's night was the reason. Maybe they should hold that event every night, if it means that song won't be played.
