redwing711 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Lilja is not as bad as many on here like to make him out to be. I haven't noticed him making any bad turn-overs lately at all. How long does he have to go playing some decent hockey before some people on here will admit that maybe he is improving his play and being more careful with the puck? I have no problem with him not being someone's favorite player, but I don't understand why some people can't get past their dislike of him and at least acknowledge that he is playing pretty decent right now. Is it really that hard to be objective about what is going on in a game? Yeah, I like Lilja, but I can see that he can make bad plays and be sloppy with the puck and has cost the team goals or scoring chances at times. I also see that he has not been doing that lately. Is it really that hard to be objective about a player's performance? I guess it depends on your idea of objective. Or better yet, your idea of decent hockey. I don't think taking stupid penalties every third minute to allow the other team an almost constant man advantage is decent hockey. It seemed a lot of people on this board liked Schneider a lot and he was a turnover machine and wasnt very good on defence. There was a lot of notice of him though because he did have a great shot from the point. The truth of the matter is that Lilja is good. If he wasnt....he wouldnt be playing on this team every game. He's been playing fine since the middle of last season, and was one of the best and most effective Dmen in the playoffs last year. sure his turn over lost a game i suppose, even though it went to o.t. and there was another game to be played after that, and he did score the Wings only goal. Besides the fact who was his partner that had the genius idea to not only leave him as the last man back, but continue on with the forwards and let him start the breakout whilst letting a forechecker rush in on him? No he's not a top paring Dman, never heard him claim that, and he sure don't get paid like it. Chase 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 This Lilja bashing is getting way out of hand. IMO, he turns the puck over just as much as Rafalski (talking about just this season thus far). And he leads the team in blocked shots and hits. Lilja isn't a point producing defenseman like Ralf or Lids. He is a STAY AT HOME defenseman. And he has been doing his job well lately. Is he replaceable? Yes. But has he deserved all of the bashing he has been getting around here lately? No way. But of course, there has to be a LGW whipping boy. I'm not a big fan of Lilja's, but our demise wasn't his fault...Lack of scoring on the pp, a few injuries, bad bounces (can throw in the goal off the shaft of Lidstroms stick, & inability of Franzen to clear the puck), & of course there's always the questionable calls not made/made by the refs BTW Lilja scored the only goal for us in that game as well...He's no Norris canidate, but there have been worse than Lilja playing in the NHL. and we got 'em both on our team... sammy and Lil' Ja Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Maybe that should be Holland's new criterion when drafting or trading? "Is he the worst player in the NHL?.......No....OK then. We sign him." kylee 727 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 (edited) those pictures are just killin me hahah. but seriously tho, Lillypads had his bone head moments and up the middle turnovers from time to time, but overall id keep him as a 5th or 6th defensemen. leads the team in hits, blocked shots. those of the type of things that go unnoticed but make a huge difference in a game, but then again so do his big turnovers. its a love - hate thing with me for Lillypads. ps. anyone else notice how clear his English is? crazy.
