Zednik's throat cut by teammate's skate

What a sick coincidence that the last time something like this happened it was also in Buffalo...

You could hear the emotion in Jeannert's voice...

Neale.."I've never seen that much blood so quickly"

Jeannert.."I'm afraid I have but don't want to recall it"

Not as graphic on camera as the Malarchuk incident but just as scary.

Glad to hear Zednik is doing OK.

Wow that is just awful. That poor guy, i really hope that everythign is gong to be OK.

I would assume that he is going to be fine, i hope that he is able to continue playing this year and continue on with his career.

Get well soon.

Man I was so angry after our game that I didn't catch this.

Zednik is one of my favourite players because of how he fought to come back after cancer. He is a class act and I really hate to see this happen to someone like him.

Why couldn't have been Dan O'Halloran...

Maybe I shouldn't say that but we can all agree that Zednik doesn't deserve this and wish him a speedy recovery.

:o That is awful! How unlucky, to think of all the players who get cut in the face by a flying skate poor Zednik gets it in the neck. I think his instinct to skate toward the bench saved precious time and possibly his life. Good to hear that he is stable and in the hospital, many prayers for him and his family.

The look in Zednik's eyes says a lot about what was going through his mind in the moments immediately after that. Pretty scary.

The looks on the faces of the fans in the one photo says a lot, too.

Indeed, you shouldn't have said that.

Nobody deserves to almost bleed to death.

Zednik was very lucky that he was able to stay on his skates and had the presence of mind to get his ass to the bench. He started fading 5 steps or so off the ice, so he didn't have a lot of time.

Speedy recovery, Zed!

Wasn't it the very day before when that referee was cut in the face by an errant skate in the Rangers-Flyers game?

a) What are the odds for happening this?

b) Should it be mandatory for anybody on the ice to wear a neck guard?

I'll leave b) uncommented for now, but will say something later...

Something really must be done about this. Neck protection should be absolutely mandatory for every player, not just goaltenders.

i agree 100% and they wouldn't burden their play whatsoever! i don't want to see a change after someone dies, cause it seems that's what it's gonna take before players stop being so old school. if i were in the nhl i'd wear a full cage and neckgaurd. can't have too much protection really as much as these guys have no respect for where their sticks go it seems.
