I know, he is right more than he is wrong, but he had one no-no a couple years back that always reminds me to think twice about what he is saying. He had said with certainty that Detroit was going to trade Zetterberg and Fischer to Toronto for Antropov and Colaiacavo.

Yeah, I'm not his biggest fan, but he knows his stuff so you have to take what he says into pretty serious consideration, but no one is perfect right?

That's awesome! I wish we had sportnet here! We are stuck with sportscenter, which has literally no hockey coverage.

How certain did he sound? Sorry for the questions, I just get so excited! :scared:

Wow! Never heard that. Did people actually believe that? Zettereberg has been great since day one here. I know there was always talk of trading Fischer, but Zetts???

Forgot about him, a mean f*cker could be what we need.
I the only thing with Salei (and I mean only) is he has another 2 years at $3 million left on his contract to the best of my knowledge.

I know it was blasphemous, it shook me to my core when I heard it. Watters is a pretty intelligent guy so I thought there was a good chance it would happen...not on Kenny's watch! :nono:

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports Senators GM Bryan Murray has told Atlanta Thrashers GM Don Waddell he's interested in Marian Hossa but he hasn't made an offer yet. Waddell is believed seeking a player, pick and number one pick in return, and the Thrashers would like either Antoine Vermette or Andrej Meszaros, prospects Nick Foligno or Brian Lee from the Senators. Garrioch believes Murray might make that swap if the Thrashers added rugged and affordable blueliner Garnet Exelby into the deal. It's also believed Hossa will only be a playoff rental as he won't commit to a new contract as part of the deal, which could affect his market value. It's also believed Murray is interested in Tampa Bay's Vaclav Prospal but Garrioch claims the Penguins would like to add Prospal to Sidney Crosby's line. Murray might also make an offer for Toronto's Mats Sundin if the Leafs captain agrees to a trade.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: I don't believe Murray will part with that much for a playoff rental even if Exelby were part of the deal. It simply doesn't make sense. The Penguins aren't expected to make a pitch for a scoring forward as they're believed seeking defensive depth. And I doubt Mats Sundin will waive his NTC to accept a trade to Ottawa.

My friend & I were mulling over who the Thrashers would take for Hossa & about 30 minutes after the conversation ended, he mentioned Cleary & it all made sense. It would break my heart because he's the man, but it makes so much sense.

Cleary hasn't re-signed this year becuase he wants $3.9 Million. He's not going to get that here. He deserves it, but it's just not plausible with the cap these days. Obviously, it wouldn't be just Cleary for Hossa. But maybe Cleary and a pick?

& it wouldn't be Sundin because he's a rental & Holland said they're only going to make a big move if they can get them signed.

Then the Thrashers GM also agreed to let teams talk with Hossa to see if he'd sign... Coincidence?

It just makes the most sense.

That would be a sad day, but also a very happy day.

I guess we'll just wait & see.

"So much sense"? I wish i were involved in this discussion so I could set you both straight. :P It makes no sense, absolutely none, for the Thrashers to want Dan Cleary in a trade for Hossa. He is a UFA, who is out until playoff time to boot, what in the world would be the point in trading for him? So they trade for Cleary, they dont make the playoffs, and he could just sign somewhere else (including back to Detroit) in the offseason. So when its all said and done, for their star player and one of the top 2 names available, they get a pick and a guy who probably wouldnt even dress 1 game for them. At least if he was restricted you'd have a little something to stand on, but he's not even that! Hell if they want Cleary that bad they could just sign him in the offseason!

Cleary makes no sense for Atlanta. He's a UFA after the season. Atlanta wants a roster player or two who can help now AND in the future, and for the Thrashers, that's not Cleary.

Also, he in no way deserves $3.9m.

Playes making close to 3.9m: Kozlov, Brind'Amour, Whitney. These are all veterans who have been around longer than Cleary and have been putting up solid offensive numbers for the entire length of Cleary's career. Cleary's career high is 20 goals and 40 points. All of those guys have hit 30 goals and 70 points several times. Cleary should get between $2m and $2.5m. If he goes out looking for more, he can have it from some other team.

Cleary is 29 and probably would have had 55 points this year. I agree that there's no way he'd get $3.9m, but $2m-$2.5m is too low. This is a Detroit team that gave Niklas Kronwall a 3 million dollar deal. Cleary has been much more integral to this team than Kronwall, particularly in last years playoffs. I would be shocked if he was signed for less than $2.75m, with $3m more likely. He's a legitimate 2nd line scorer, fantastic in his own zone, and can grind with just about everyone. A $2m contract would be a lowball.
