Sundin will only waive no trade if 3 things happen

I know we've got to get a defenseman 1st, but Sundin just seems to answer so many questions. He brings the added physical element we need. He brings the second line scoring we need. I think we could get him without giving up Flip or Huds. I think we could even sign him to an extension that would expire around the time Hank needs a new contract.

Then we could still probably add a descent blue-liner like brad stuart without giving up key long term pieces.

Thoughts?

Not happening.

I'd love to have Sundin, but Hossa makes more sense. Sundin is a clear-cut rental nearing the end of his career and, as he's a center, we would still have a hole to fill on the wing.

I agree.

"Guys don't want to do deals with (Fletcher) if it gets down to just completing the deal and then Sundin says he's not going to go anywhere," a league executive said yesterday. "I know a lot of the teams that are talking to them want reassurance, otherwise, it's going to be a waste of time for them."

There's a strong belief Fletcher hasn't even told Sundin what his plan is going forward. Fletcher said this week he won't ask anybody to waive their "no-movement" clauses until he has something tangible in place.

"Anaheim is said to be offering Ryan, Mikkelson and EDM's 1st round pick for Sundin, Stajan and a 2009 2nd round pick."

-HockeyLeaks

Sounds like a pretty realistic trade.

Why doesn't Anaheim just trade for the Stanley Cup? Literally. That's not against the rules is it?

That trade won't fly. No way Anaheim gives up all that for Stajan if Sundin doesn't re-sign with Anaheim.

I don't think any GM is fooling himself that Sundin would re-sign with that team. Anyway, that's the price of a repeat year.

I would just love for them to go out in the first round, like Nashville last year. Their future for 5 games in the playoffs.

Not. Going. To. Happen.

If that trade goes through, I hope they have to play Calgary and San Jose before us, before there gonna need to be banged up, that much to lose.

It seems like very wishful thinking. In an ideal world I suppose this would be alright but I do not see it happening. I do not think we could get Hossa or Sundin without losing Flip or Hudler. I really do not think that Sundin is going anywhere and if he does he will be a Leaf next year.

I heard from someone in Toronto tonight that Sundin was not at practice today, and Maurice was in a very sombre mood.

Take it for what you will...

You'd think that would be all over the radio in Toronto.

 - Gotta love all the speculation.

I know. I'm just getting a bad feeling he's headed over to Anaheim. If he's planning on resigning with the Leafs in the off season anyhow, I don't see how they can refuse that trade, with the high first rounder from Edmonton included and all. They'll have a pretty high first rounder to begin with already. Two high first rounders in a good draft year just to loan a player, they'd be nuts not to.

I honestly don't believe we have a chance in 'H-E-DBL Hockey Sticks' in landing either Sundin, or Hossa...As much as I'd like to think we're in the running - we don't have the prospects/players/picks that would land either player when it comes down to the highest bidder; dunno if Holland would even try once the bidding gets outta hand.

We'll have an addition, or 2, but it won't be anything "major".

Like maybe a Miroslav Satan type player or two?
