Why we should be happy to lose

Take a look at the standings....

Dallas is coming up strong and looks like they will over take us.

This is a great thing to happen as the brackets are set to aid number second place.

Right now it would be

1 Wings v 8 Avs

2 Dallas v 7 Canucks

3 Wild v 6 Flames

4 Ducks v 5 Sharks

Now I think we can all agree Colorado is the easiest match up out of the bunch. In the first round, but the Canucks are beatable. Nashville and Phoenix can also sneak in there as well.

So really first round it is in our hands reguardless if we are first or second.

Notice that the ducks are looking destined to play the sharks. Since Dallas is so far ahead, the Ducks are going to get stuck at 4 and the sharks at 5.

One of the best in the west is definately going down thanks to this.

Now assume Dallas beats their match up as do we.

I will play devils advocate and say the Wild win as well.

So first would have to play either the ducks or the sharks, while 2nd would have to play the Wild....

I think the odds of us going through 7th and 3rd are better then going through 8 and 4.

Assuming al the hockey anaylists are right, the ducks will win out and we would still have home ice, and they would have to go through San Jose, and Dallas while we would go through Vancouver and Minnesota.

We would have to be the fresher team and have a much better shot at taking down the ducks then.

That is why I really don't care about this horrid streak we have been on.

Let us start resting some of the other guys and get ready for the first round!!

I'd hate for us to play the Canucks in the 1st round. Once again I'd have to stay up till 3 in the morning during finals week watching playoff games, and listening to those racist, biased CBC announcers. Likewise, they have the best goalie in hockey, and we've seen the Wings get beat by lesser goalies in the past. I'd love for us to play either the divealanche or Phoenix because we own both those teams. Hell, I wouldn't mind playing Dallas in the 1st round due to our dominance over them, even though I know that's probably not feasible at this point.

i would be very nervous to play colorado in the first round. the rivalry is going to be back in full swing, and i'm afraid it will be like any other rivalry when you can throw out records and skill-level. honestly, as a wing's fan i don't take any first round opponent lightly. for me, it doesn't much matter who we play in the first round as long as we get past them and start the ball rolling. playoffs bring out the best in teams, no matter how good they are.

I am looking forward to playing the Avs in the first round. I've actually been hoping for this since like November, so I hope it follows through. Really though, I don't care who we play after that. I would enjoy the Ducks being one of those ... victims... since I can't stand them.

All in all, I think that out of whoever the Wings end up playing, they can take em and we'll be running away with the cup this year.

id definitely love to see a Wings/Avs 1st round. rivalry restored!

imagine seeing Forsberg diving again :D its inevitable!

He's definitely going to infect the young guys on that team who have yet to learn how to dive properly. And who can forget that s***bag Lappy. I still want revenge with the possibility of us playing them again.

You're ******* insane. You want me to be happy that we've only taken summin like 4 outta 24 points so we can get a cushy playoff seed? Go watch basketbal and leave hockey to real men (and women) who actually care if our team wins.

honestly i think the presidents trophy is the kiss of death, its happened to us a couple of times and look what happened to buffalo last year...1st place scares me sometimes with our boys i'd rather fly under the radar and have people underestimate us like they do EVERY season and just come out of no where and win it all.

I get it! I see now, it IS good we are losing. Now I see that it is also a great thing that so many home owners are losing their homes, the price of gas is rising, recession is probably here, job losses in MI are high, the war has no end in sight, China is gearing up to kick are ass and the list just goes on and on!!!

I don't think it matters. The last time this team won the Cup was when they won the President's Trophy, and yet the last time they didn't finish first in the West, they were swept in humiliating fashion in the 1st round of the playoffs.

While this is true, we will have DMAC back sooooo... :w00t2:

Canucks would be eassssssy, the only problem is Loungo, but his team can't put a puck in the net so Wings will be fine

Luongo is one hell of a problem, and our team can't put the puck in the net either. Besides, they didn't seem to have trouble the last time the Wings played them of putting the puck in the net.

Haha, somehow I sense sarcasm. I have to agree though - the fact is that the team is trying to win, and they aren't. Regardless of what team they play - because they really can't try to control that - a huge losing streak like this is not really the boost of confidence you want going into the playoffs.

For the sake of discussion, with all the acquisitions and returns in the Avs lineup, I definitely don't agree that they would be the "easiest". Theodore is no Luongo, but they've played us pretty close this year, even without all of their newest additions. Luongo might steal games for Vancouver, but I feel like Detroit is a much stronger team, all around, when healthy.

I honestly do not care about matchups. I know that this team can beat any team out there, and we can win the Cup. And, to do that, we are going to have to be prepared to beat any team and every team.

But, ya, it really does look like Ducks v Sharks first round, eh?? I'm pretty pumped for that, although, I'm not really sure how I would want that to end. On one hand, I'd love to see the Ducks get knocked out first round and see every "expert" around have to scramble to find a new favourite. On the other hand, though, I very badly want another 7 game crack at those d-bags. Oh well, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, I suppose.

nah we match up great vs. the and their goaltenders are very beatable. Plus - the travel isn't so bad.

I've been contemplating this for days also - it wouldn't be all bad to be #2. IF you assume the 1-4 seeds win (a big if i know) then we would draw a NW division team in both the first and second rounds. Meanwhile the Ducks-Sharks would play and the Stars would play the winner. Very long ways off - but to be honest - actually get tired of being #1 all the time - maybe not having that would actually benefit the Wings...

I'm not one to "pick our poision".

Remember when, generally speaking, we were thrilled to face Edmonton in the first round a few seasons ago? Somebody who played a "similar" wide-open game? Well, they decided to trap the Wings to death and succeeded, when they weren't supposed to be able to play that kinda game.

It really doesn't matter who the Wings play in the playoffs I think. They better take whoever the opponent is very seriously and bring their best game, every game. No series is going to be a walk in the park.
